I actually tested many USB sticks, but the ones I finally checked that worked, are the USB SD Reader that I originally posted.

I totally agree with PSX emulator bad performance...But it is all that we can achieve in terms of PSX!

Regarding the GXs emulators, again, totally agree! Although I have never realized about the input lag (I play with Wii U PRO Controller).

I was watching my Youtube videos just by curiosity, and I found an evidence where you can see that, at least in my case, I don't face any lag while playing, for example, Donkey Kong Country 2 through SNEX9XGX.

1. Can I use USB loader GX forwarder to load gamecube games from the same ustealth HDD that contains wii games? Because I don't want to buy a large sd card jus for nintendont.
2. Can I use HDD with Y cable with USB loader gx instead of sd-card reader?
3. Can you share the link to download your roms collection (arcade, mame...). I want a collection like yours.

I answer your questions:

[Eipok]: Of course. The only bad thing is that you will not be able to play with the Wii U GamePad Controller with these games (this is possible if the games are located in the front SD card, and those should be opened with injected Nintendon't in the Wii U Menu).

Awesome thread. I have a question about the transcend USB card reader that you are using. Was there a specific reason why you used it (specs)? I'm looking into getting a smaller sized usb card reader and wondered if I needed to make sure I get a specific one. Thanks

[Eipok]: it happened by chance, because I had the Trascend reader at home, I tried it with a high storage SD, and it worked...No other USB Sticks nor SD USB readers (I tried only one more) worked. I recommend you firstly try what you have; if it doesn't work you, then you can think which new SD or SD reader to buy!

I understand now. Thank you. Initially, I wanted to use something compact-sized so my WiiU doesn't protrude too much from my TV unit. Now I understand that there could be an issue with using any other SD card reader that's not the Trascend one you used in your example so I'll just stick to using those. Thank you

I just discovered this post. I’ve had a wiiu for awhile, and spent quite a while setting it up, but it never really worked well. Looking forward to trying this.

This is a great setup. I'm using two separate HDDs at the moment and I find it more and more annoying to have to swap them around to play wiiu vs wii. I'm not really happy with my Retroarch setup as well. I think it's time to scrap it again and go with your setup.

Would love to get hands-on your Retroach setup - looks amazing.

This highly depends on individual combinations of USB-SATA-controller + SSD.

Also large SSD drives draw more power. see Samsung 860 EVO spec sheet, p5 (can't post link yet, google it):

Capacity / active drive pwr consumption
250GB / 2.2 w
500GB / 2.5 w
1TB / 3 w

So you might run into problems without a Y-cable.

Just tested this myself:
- "TOOGOO USB 3.0 2.5 SATA HDD power adapter cable and III Hard Drive Adapter Cable with UASP – SATA to USB 3.0 converter for SSD/HDD – Hard Disk Adapter Cable Black"
- 1 GB 860 EVO

Game installations are fine, but loading games draws too much power:
error msg (something like): "USB-storage disconnected. switch off console & use an Y-cable."

I also did a speed test, comparing this SSD with eipoks recommended SD-card (200 GB A1 Sandisk). Installations (=writing speed) are about 10% faster (WUP Installer) - Otherwise I highly doubt there is any noticable difference. Reliability is very hard to test, but by definition SSDs are better suited for lots of read/writes.

That said, there are lots of people that did use these cards for emunand (=operating system) for years and did not ran into any problems.
