Make sure you are not using the 09/03 patcher as Widescreen is broken in that version. Make sure you set the Widescreen in the settings section.

To my knowledge the experimental build only breaks GPU + Widescreen, MTX-based widescreen should still work :teach:

Did you make sure that Enable External FIRM is checked in Luma3ds settings by holding select when powering on the system. Also where is the .cxi located and what is it named?

As proven by the earlier TWLMenu++ screenshot, the .cxi is in the right location, and has the right name.
TWiLight Menu++ just assumes widescreen if enabled, regardless if the CXI contains it or not.

Yes, I did enable External FIRM in Luma3ds settings. The cxi is named TwlBg.cxi and located in folder luma/sysmodules/ but the result is like the top screen being cropped.
I also tried to rename the cxi to Widescreen.cxi and moved it to _nds/TWiLightMenu/twlBg/ but the result is I lost widescreen option in twilight settings.
I'm sorry for my bad english :(

The Widescreen.cxi is no longer used. If the screen is being squished, it means that the Widescreen patch is not being enabled when creating the TwlBg.cxi. I had that issue with the 09/03/2020 version. Try the attached version. It's the one that worked for me.

What is it that people like about the widescreen apart from it filling the top screen?

I tried it out and found it just looked off, especially on games that are using both screens with something passing through like say Arkanoid and even in other games it didn't look as good as the regular display.
