OP
So my 1Tb hard disk drive for my wii u i think finally crapped out today. I’ve had it for several years now I actually got it for my PS3 very long ago and started using it for the Wii U after i realized i could use emulators and play tons of roms for several consoles. Does anyone know if there’s anyway i could extract the saves for the games i’ve played from the hard disk drive (it has an external power source btw). or even if there’s a way to fix it and get it working again? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

i thought wiiu saved game saves to the internal memory and only the games themselves was on the hdd? ive got smash wiiu on disk and then i switched to a digital version on my hdd and the save still worked fine, dont quote me on this as i could be wrong
edit: if I'm right then your saves should still be on your wii u and you'll just need to reformat your hdd and redownload your games. before you do anything check on your wii u to see if the saves are still there

if the hdd is corrupted and your wiiu is asking to format it i don't think they's anything that can be done then. wiiu formatted drives can only be used on the wiiu it was formatted on and windows can read the hdd either.

saves will have this structure. I think the main folder on usb is called usr, so it's probably in there, but it's been a while, so look for the 80000001 folder. I think it's the user folder, so if you have more than one user, it may be a different number. from what I remember, saves are obvious in most cases::

i allways be afraid of that! without hdd, saves are on internal memory, but when there is a plugged hdd, saves are saved on this hdd..
I guess there is no way to use wfs-fuse on windows or mac?

I think dumpsterU can do the same thing, but I've never personally used it. the hdd has to be functional for it to work, so if it's not being detected or something, there's probably nothing that can be done.

hi, so just to clarify (sorry it’s been a bit, i had to go out of town). i should plug in my hdd to my computer with its two usb cords while also having its external power source plugged in. then i should go to my computer (mine runs windows) and i should be able to get it to appear and then i copy the saves and import them to the wii u?

no, the wiiu uses its own filesystem which wont be recognized by windows.
it'll only ask you if you want to format the hdd

there’s no way at all to see the save data on windows? because i tried a few of your guys recommended homebrew apps, the ones i tried didn’t recognize my hard disk drive and couldn’t extract saves

edit3:
