I have not tried setting neek2o up for vWii, but my attempts on normal Wii using SD always failed. Using HDD, I've never had a problem & posted a tutorial on this thread months back. Using vWii is a different beast though and do not recall reading anyone being successful. A truly working tutorial would be greatly appreciated by many, sorry I could not be of help.

So, I am posting here because I hope that someone will be able to help me.

I recently got a EHDD from best buy, this model to be exact, and wiiflow lite doesn't recognizes it, as some people suggested in the past, I got a Y cable for it, the thickest cable of the two is plugged on the bottom port and the other one on the top port.

CFG Mod is capable of seeing the EHDD, as well mGBA, wiiexplorer, SNES9x, wiiSX among other applications. Its specifically happening with wiiflow lite. No matter what I do, wiiflow lite will not recognize the drive, its not partitioned, its FAT32 formatted, is set as primary, etc. nothing.

In WFL settings page 2 "Startup Settings"
Mount SD only = No

Also, in WFL settings page 1 "Game Partitions"
Wii Partition = USB
GameCube Partition = USB

Not sure if this is the problem, but worth taking a look.
ok, now I am getting somewhere, WFL is stack dumping, can't do anything.

managed to get to settingss and it was like that already, altering game partitions did the trick tho, thanks.

Difficult to say. Try saving wiiflow_lite.ini file in
SD/apps/wiiflow folder to PC desktop or just rename It something else. Make sure HDD is plugged into Wii when launching WFL and it should create a new wiiflow_lite.ini on boot to see if it fixes problem. The file could be corrupted.

Well, after I got to the partition config bit, it worked, I just gotta let it later dl the covers for all the games I have atm installed on it and mount an emunand at one point or another.

thanks once again.

How can i change the codes path on wiiflow lite? I don't recall if I can even, mostly I want the application to look for the text file on E:\Games\txtcodes and not E:\Games\wiiflow\codes

Hi Everyone,

On the vWii for WiiFlow, what is the largest hard drive you have used? Answer the following questions:
1) Is it a recent Wii Flow Lite (now Wii Flow again) Version?
2) Can you ustealth it and leave it plugged in to the top back port? With a drive for the normal WiiU connected to the back bottom port?
3) Is it formatted in FAT32 (MBR initialized), if so what program did you use to format it?
4) Are you using a forwarder?

The reason I ask these questions is I have had a lot of challenges getting my Wii Flow to work on the vWii. (On the Wii no problem). I have only gotten a 32GB usb stick to work that has a fast read speed that was formatted with windows.

I have a 4TB WD Elements I would love to get to work right, but hangs. There is much more to it than this, but right now I want to see someone that has actually accomplished what I am going for.

Thanks,

I'm not actively using WiiFlow, but I suspect that it only supports MBR-initialized drives. That'd mean you need to reinitialize the drive in MBR instead of GPT, which only allows you to use the first 2TB of the drive (the other 2TB would stay unusable) and format that in FAT32.

Thanks for the tip, I was not aware of that. My formatting has been in MBR though. The last method I used was found in the "Definitive vWii hacking guide and is formatting using Bootice. In the instructions it has you click a radio button to format in MBR and using this method and another method I have successfully formatted a 4TB in FAT32.

Yes larger drives will work on the Wii, but I never finished my Wii-U mods. Maybe I should do that, but I would think it would still work.

I've used up to 10TB Western Digital MyBooks, but to have all US & PAL English Wii & GameCube titles, plus a few foreign titles a 5TB will cover it. See the link in my signature for drives larger than 2TB.

I am good on the Wii, I have a 4TB working like a champ. I just want to know if anyone has had more success on the vWii than me and if so how...

(Though I read your large drive format methods and they are different than mine, I might try them to see if I have the same issue.)

So I talked to rimsky82, which is working on migrating all the codes from GeckoCodes.org to GameHacking.org.

He said he already did "a lot of work" on an API for hosting the codes, thankfully. He is working on other things at the moment though.

I'm looking forward for things to be migrated, because codes.rc24.xyz is something I made really quickly so people can get codes again. It was also hard to get an account to post codes on GeckoCodes, I asked James0x57 on a few places (email, Discord, etc.) for an account, and no response. GameHacking.org will be more open and easier to submit codes too (in fact, there's already a page for codes on the site).

I wish James made sure it was fully migrated before shutting the site down.

WiiFlow Lite, USB Loader GX, and Dolphin Emulator all use codes.rc24.xyz right now, but it'd probably be as simple as replacing the URL for people to continue getting codes.

Anybody got any idea about what part of a theme would effect the downloading of wiitdb and covers as well,...it just recently happened when I successfully updated the database once... now if I want to download covers or update the database, I have to switch to Default theme to do so,..

@biggzsizzle Have you checked your SD/HDD to see if the covers were downloaded and wiitdb is there? If they are then it's likely caused by the same out of memory error that Rhapsodii Shima had before I helped Tetsuo mitigate the issue.
  1. Only use PNG images
  2. Don't have too many large images and at least try to optimise the backgrounds to be paletted
  3. Optimise your images, but make sure that the optimiser isn't adjusting the colour type to something that's bad for the theme
  4. Try disabling HQ covers
https://gbatemp.net/posts/9181140

With enough free memory cover caching should complete and you'll see the changes in WiiFlow.

The caching isn't my issue, my covers have been the same for months now, and as I said, if I use the default theme, this doesn't happen. So I need to know, is it something in the theme (perhaps images) that would cause the dsi error and reload to happen when I attempt to download covers or the database.

If the theme images need optimization, and if that were the cause, why would it happen only when I attempt to download??

Exactly. Because the default theme doesn't use that much memory.

I looked at your YouTube video and it looks like your theme would consume even more memory than the Rhapsodii Shima theme.

Each file that's successfully download is immediately cached and it's the caching process that requires the memory.

I haven't checked the code to see if downloading wiitdb would cause things to be recached. But as a quick test remove a dozen of your large images and replace them with a 1x1 PNG file and then try to download stuff again.

So just to be clear,.. my covers, which have been the same covers I've had since November 2019,.. are suddenly too large and causing the issue?
Or is it that maybe the theme images are possibly causing it?
Because I might could see the latter part being an issue,.. in haste, I may not have optimized some of the png's... but all my covers and theme images have always been png files. And all my game covers have come directly from gametdb..
So im just wanting to make sure, thats what you're saying,.. is that my game covers themselves are causing the crash when downloading? And not the theme images
