What's your basis for giving this advice?
Why not install them on both?

You can move the game to the NAND after installation if it works fine, typically you don't want the NAND as the target location for game installation. 32GB Internal NAND ain't a lot of space anyway.

Can someone elaborate on this?
Worried about installing malicious code?

I’m thinking of replacing my gamepad battery. There are batteries floating around on ebay, are they safe to use? I know the console is quite old now, would these batteries also be old and because of this have lost some of their capacity?

not necessarily. it's just recommended that the NAND be for haxchi or especially cbhc only, then leave the NAND alone. you don't want something to get corrupted on there.

This sounds like superstition to me :moogle:

As long as you're installing titles from NUS, what would corrupt NAND?
The only thing I would be wary of installing to NAND are homebrew titles and VC injects.

I’d like to play some Wii games on my Wii U. I’d like to get the back ups from WiiU Helper.

Which emulator do I need to install for the above to work? I just had a quick look at the WiiU hacks guide and it mentioned Retroarch. Should I be following a tutorial video for that?

Thanks.

dunno if retroarch can play wii games. the vc injector by @TeconMoon is what I used for a couple games. never had an issue with them. the rest of my wii games are using exploits on the virtual wii.

the easiest way to play galaxy is to download it with wii u usb helper. it's a legit wii inject, so you can get it there. I bought both galaxy 1 and 2, yes bought them on my wii u. you'll need cfw to do it with yours though, since these are eshop titles.

if I download using Wii U USB helper, do I not need an emulator?
I’m able to play them like any other WiiU back up?

the wii virtual console makes use of the wii portion of the console, yes. if you have cbhc, then you're ready to install the wii game. it should install and work without issue.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

the only difference I know of between injecting the game yourself and an official version is that you can change the btsnd (boot sound) to that of the actual wii game's with injecting them. I did that for new super mario bros. wii, but not for dkc returns.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

you can change the banner as well, but I see no reason to on an official game or if the game were missing one.

Can I play Wii games without the Wii remotes?

maybe with the classic controller, but that plugs into the wii remote. I don't know if there's any way to play with the gamepad or pro controller, but I don't think the pro controller even has a gyroscope, so you wouldn't be able to do motion controls. I think the gamepad has a sensor bar integrated into it as I ran some tests, and the gamepad detected my wii remote when I did.

It depends on the game. Some official Wii-to-WiiU conversions (e.g. Xenoblade) can use the Gamepad as a Classic Controller. You may be able to create icons on your Home Menu that launch with this option using TeconMoon's injector. Some games that use the Wiimote sideways like a NES controller can be patched to use Classic Controller. But if you want to play most Wii games with other controllers (e.g. Dual Shock with motion controls), you will need to use the Dolphin emulator on PC rather than a real Wii.
