Thank you for the fast reply I'm attempting it as we speak! I'm stuck on step 13 in section 1 about creating a folder in the luma folder. I dont have a luma folder on this sd card as its brand new am I missing something?

You can just click on new folder and name it as per what it asks for since its not there.

Do you have a boot.3dsx on the root of your sd card? If its not there it should be in with the luma zip.

Hey,
I downloaded a patch pack for a game (A link to the past Redux), and while I managed to install most of them I have difficulties with the last one:
I'll start by saying that the end goal is to install it on my 3ds, so as far as I know, the whole of the game needs to be in a single cia file (or am I wrong?). The last patch needs to be installed with a msu file and a corresponded pcm file (for an intro video and sound). Now I know how to patch an isp file, but I didn't find a way to patch the msu and pcm files too, so even if I convert everything else to the one cia file, I'm still stuck with these two files which I don't know how to transport and install.

All ideas will be highly welcomed.
With thanks,
A noob that has spent over 4 hours on this already

Hi everyone!
Hopefully my question here will not be out of place.
I just bought a new 2DS XL and I've already read the famous 3DS.hacks.Guide. It seems easy but I've some concern about it.

Once I hack my Nintendo, will I be able to have a "vanilla" experience again? I'd hack it to use emulators and eventually install some CIA of games I've already purchased in the past.

what I do not want is to get somehow banned from online gaming or eshop or be unable to restore the console to a brand new state.
As far as I read if I avoid playing "hacked" versions of games I will be ok and able to restore the DS to it's stock system.

Could anyone please confirm or deny what I've understood?

thank you in advance! :)

*Sigh* The banning question… there haven't been bans reported on the 3DS platform for years now. The pretty much only thing that can get you banned is online cheating (and cheaters deserve a ban).

Removing the custom firmware (CFW) is possible. But I don't recommend doing it because it may have side effects (and there is nothing to gain by CFW removal). If you only install B9S, install and play some games, removing B9S should not do anything bad. Only refer to the guide and no random videos and don't skip any steps (especially the safety test):
https://3ds.hacks.guide/uninstall-cfw
Note that uninstalling CFW is almost never a solution to any problems but will make solving them hard or even impossible.

I personally don't assist in CFW removal anymore but you will certainly find competent help on the forum if needed.
It is possible to create a 100% unmodified 1:1 copy of the NAND before modification.

Good luck and have fun!

Thank you for your reply :)
To recall everything, B9S is the custom firmware (CFW) I'm going to install on my 2DS. As soon as I backup the internal memory (NAND) of the console BEFORE modding it I will be able to restore the original system (unless I really mess up).

That's confirm what I've already read.

Again, thank you for your time!

B9S is a bootrom exploit – you can call this the Holy Grail of console softmodding. The same exploit that can be installed with various methods can be loaded one-time with the ntrboot method. This allows NAND backup before actual modification but requires having a compatible flashcart.

To clarify: You can uninstall B9S even without having a full NAND image from before the modification and won't notice any difference. Analyzing the contents of the NAND chip might reveal that it has been modded in the past (e.g. the very important GodMode9 embedded essentials backup is a clear sign that stays after uninstalling B9S).
Complete full/forced NAND restore (opposed to safe NAND restore) is something I would not recommend – unless you know what you're doing.

Don't overthink and overcomplicate things: 3DS modding is as safe as it can get. There is practically no reason for ever uninstalling CFW with all the features Luma3DS adds.
The only 3DS consoles I didn't mod are collectors/special editions that might become valuable in the future.

Hi guys! I have a question about region changing. I want to buy a used Japanese New 3DS and I read that Luma3DS supports out-of-region games, does this include physical games or only digital copies? Thank you. :yay3ds:

There's no new console update beyond 11.14 to date. And latest Luma version is 10.2.1.

If you have at least the latest Luma, then there's no problem with update your console, if necessary

Update Luma on both SD card and (then) on CTRNAND (replacing the boot.firm file on root).

This is the latest version of Luma CFW:
https://github.com/LumaTeam/Luma3DS/releases/latest

And this is the tutorial to update Luma on CTRNAND (go to Section VI):

Hi,

Not sure if this is the right place to post this question, so sorry if it isn't.

New 3DS XL (JPN)
Firmware 11.14
Luma 10.2.1
All hacking apps up to date

I have a hacked Japanese 3DS (bought brand new) and run either EUR or USA ROMs on it. I have two problems.

The first is that some games (despite them being EUR or USA) don’t display the full English name on the game selection screen or displays no name at all. For instance the virtual console edition of Ghosts ‘n’ Goblins only shows a picture of a NES and TV but the banner directly below where the name goes is blank.

The second problem is that some virtual console games do not load, and I think it’s mainly SNES console games (Super Mario Kart, Final Fight, Super Ghouls ‘n’ Ghosts, Earhtbound etc). Whenever I launch these games, the console crashes and throws up “an exception occurred’ message and tells me to press any button to shut the console down.

I initially thought these problems were down to locale issues so I enabled game patching in Luma and followed the instructions for setting up a locale.txt file, but none of this has helped.

Any ideas?

Thanks
