Hi, how do load other C64 games that are not in the Gamebase64 list? And where is the recommended place to put the images on the 3DS's SD card?

Thanks in advance, I searched through the thread but couldn't find any clear guidance on this.

I have a lot of .d64 files in a directory that's just called c64 that's in the root of the SD card. To launch a game use the launch icon on the top left of the touchscreen ( looks like a rocket!) and browse your way to the file you want to start.

Never played anything on this platform before, what titles hold up for first timers with no rose tinted specs?

Honestly, a huge part of C-64 appeal is nostalgia and also appreciation for a nascent art form still finding its footing. Many (most) games really struggle both technically and from a design perspective compared to modern day equivalents. Personally, I think Montezumas Revenge holds up as a platformer with surprisingly tight (but punishing) controls. I think Ghostbusters has a great atmosphere and a good game design but it becomes repetitive and the difficulty curve is pretty flat.

Thanks, I had a feeling that would be the case. The excellent VVVVVVV is heavily influenced by that era and its amazing so was wondering if there was anything that came close to it.

I would give Impossible Mission, IK+, Sam's Journey, Dropzone, LUFTRAUSERZ! and Lightforce a try. They all have excellent gameplay, fantastic graphics and sound. They are also 100% playable on this emulator, as most games are.

If you're into classic RPGs, The Bard's Tale, is good, and the entire Ultima series is excellent for its time! In fact, there are hidden commands and such, even, so you'll likely not be able to complete any of them without following a guide or something. They're full of brain-busters. (the Ultima games)...

Just wanted to say thank you for this amazing emulator! I wish someone would make a MSX emulator for the 3DS like this one, you have made excellent use of the touchscreen so it is possible to use the keyboard, and I love the integration with gamebase64

Random question: is this the best way to play C64 games on a handheld? With a N3DS I mean. Would an old netbook be better?

An Acer One and the likes will give you a lot more options to emulate the C64 but they are bigger and heavier than a N3DS...

Yeah I tried this for the first time last night and was very impressed. And I realised the advantage a 3DS has over a netbook are the d pad and controls.

Ordered myself a DS Lite for ZXDS as well.

It does work on 3ds. However the screen resolution of the ds matches the zxs perfectly making it a Mitch nicer experience.

I personally have the DSi XL alongside my N3DSXL just for the ZXS and other 8 bit emulators (mostly by wavemotiondave) such as Coleco / Atari 2600 / intellivision / etc.

The gamebase64 download links diappeared from the website, too. Reason is: 8bitfiles.net ist down

I'm looking for an alternative ....
This convo is treading dangerously close to violating rules... but if one knows where look for mame reference sets... ;)

Edit: Ouch... just looked at the c64 stuff, and it doesn't actually look like a complete library. It does seem simple to me to find whatever using google... if you don't mind 1 at a time
