I've been stuck for a while trying to get Super Smash Bros. to work on my Wii U.

I've already hacked my Wii U and I've installed many native N64 roms successfully. The only game that's evaded my grasp is Super Smash Bros.

I've followed the instructions on this compatibility list (since I can't post links, googling "Wii U N64 Injection" will yield the list I used) and it hasn't worked for me. The game will remain stuck on the loading screen and will never boot into the rom. To confirm, I've downloaded HxD to modify my rom file to say NALJ and I've used the recommended UNALJ0.354.ini, as well as using Mario Golf (USA) as the base.

I've used Sin and Punishment, but that's also not worked for me. The game will either freeze at the Hal Laboratories screen or freeze early on during the intro.

I'm also using Phacox's Injector 1.1.4 to create the install and I'm using Wii U USB Helper to obtain the bases.

If there's anything I'm missing or any alternate methods to check out, I'm all ears.

PS: I've checked out another thread on this forum as their issue was similar to mine, but their solution was using the Japanese rom. and I'd prefer to not use that version for the game. That may be my only requirement. I'd like to use the USA rom, if at all possible.

PPS: I'd also like to stick without using retroarch, not64, or any other emulator. My goal is to load up Super Smash Bros. as a channel for the Wii U, as if it were a legit vc release for the e-shop.

I would if I could. This is all I can pull up on Wii U USB Helper. I have all filters enabled. I see nothing regarding the original Smash for Wii U.

To be honest, Smash 64 is kind of a pain to inject if you are not familiar with the process. What I did is use the USA .z64 file (I got it from the Wii VC version I got a while back), and modify it with a Hex editor to change the game ID to the Japanese version. And then I used the Japanese .ini file from Nintendo with the injector. You can find it by Googling it btw. After those modifications, the game worked flawlessly. If you need help, I'll be glad to offer more details.

Unfortunately, I have followed those instructions, although the only thing I'm not completely sure on is the ini. I've looked all over the Internet for the ini and the closest I could get was an ini file called "UNALJ0.354."

I'm familiar with the hex editing process as well as the injecting process. I'm pretty sure I did it correctly.

I used the USA Mario Golf release. And I think I found the problem you have. The Hex you showed is slightly modified, which is enough to break it. Here's a screenshot of my working rom, see the slight difference?

Your image lacks the dot after the J and the @ symbol. I ran into that error before, so try changing it by just highlighting the E and typing a J instead of the normal backspace method. Also, the .ini file is good.

You're my hero. Turns out when I initially edited the file, the changes kept typing over the characters. When I typed in the "J", it typed over the "@" and messed everything up. It's working perfectly now. Thank you!

Is it against ToS to share this kind of thing? If not, I'd be more than happy to share it.
It is against the rules. Virtual console injects generally involve replacing one game ROM with another game ROM.

Sharing ROMs on GBATemp is against the Terms of Service. You will be banned.

Thank you for the help! Used the hex editor and got Smash Bros working widescreen and 4:3 along with Smash Remix 1.4 and Yoshi's Story. Big Thanks!!!
