Hacking Question Anyone using an external SSD with SX OS? Undocked?

Just curious about this.
SSDs are way more expensive than HDDs and it's not like the Switch is really using the extra speed (the USB port is the bottleneck) but SSDs do have another two advantages for me:

They are silent
They are not destroyed if I drop them on the floor accidentally

That's why I'm thinking about a SSD rather than upgrading my SD card.
So a few questions:

Is anybody using a SSD with SX OS and does it work?
Does it work in handheld mode as well if you plug it into the USB-C port?
Is someone even using an internal SSD (SATA) in an external case like this one?
What about M.2 SSDs?

Every answer is much appreciated, even if it's just for one of my questions.

sd cards are cheap now especially with the deals going on right now having several 512GB is better then an SSD especially for handheld use

It all should work. I have an internal SSD in an enclosure with an OTG cable. Use it in handheld mode. Works great. Dunno about m.2 devices..

Ssd's work great. What's it to ya? Use them both if you got them.

No thanks. Unless this project happens to become something, I'm not interested in SDs. Have a 400 GB one and that's about it.
Also >switching< SDs is a pain in the ass. I even have to turn off the Switch completely for it, so I need the dongle everytime. Also the kickstand damages over time.
The only thing I like about SX OS (everything else is covered by Atmosphère way better) is XCI mounting from a hard drive.
I dumped all my cartridges because I hate having to swap something to access different games and carry them around with me physically. I'd rather have them in one place (HDD) to switch between them seemlessly while staying in Horizon OS.
And to swap an SD card is even more painful than to swap a cartridge.

May I ask, how big your SSD is?

A friend gave me an internal SSD for some tests.
It is a M.2 SSD (256 GB) that I formatted to exFAT.

Here are some experiences:
- Put XCIs in usb:/switch/xci/
- Had to convert the partition table from MBR to GPT in order for it to work (interesting)
- Connecting it directly to the Switch in handheld mode (I have a USB-C cable for that) works great
- Connecting it with a USB-A cable to the Genki dock adapter and then the Switch to it as well did not work but it also didn't work with my HDD so I think it's generally not working with the Genki adapter, which is very sad

I actually use a 1TB Samsung 860 EVO in a USB enclosure....without a dock...to install NSP's/XCI's, and to test them. Works great, and heck of a lot faster than installing over the network, and very portable.
