That would be the worst case scenario as i dont want to waste so much time reinstalling all my games. However, if there isn't a solution than i might just have to. if anyone else ran into this problem and found a way to fix it please send me a message, thank you. @Adran_Marit

Hi,

I'm new to the Switch scene, so I'm a bit confused about what I could read.

Mine seems to be vulnerable to fusee-gelee. I am wondering if I could set up a emuMMC along my sysMMC, in order to use Homebrew, etc. ; and still being able to play online to my purchased games from my sysMMC without much of a risk of getting banned.

Thanks!

The most recent is fine as the updates are cumulative.

This is not correct - or, at least, not correct for all games - as I have just tested it with Overcooked 2. That game has NINE updates (and all fairly large). If I install just the XCI file and then the most recent update then the Switch still says there is a software update available.

So there are fringe cases? For the most part it is correct though from what I've seen as well

Are there good homebrew apps that allow you to backup your saves other than Checkpoint? I really don't like the latest version but the previous version doesn't seem to work on the newer firmware anymore.

Hello, Switch n00b here hoping to advance to the next tier of Knowledge. I got my Switch as a gift Ipatched 4.1.0 so I decided to wait (about six months) until I read about Caffeine and successfully set it up. Clean SysNAND + emuMMC1 for offline (mostly PSP emulation) + emuMMC2 for online.

And... that's honestly about as far as I've gone. I really could use some help in clearing out a few questions, since most guides I can find are for non-Ipatched switches, assume homebrewed sysNAND or otherwise don't seem to deal with the Caffeine case at all.

1.- Can I upgrade emuMMC2 (online) without issues? If so, can I do it by directly connecting it to the internet, or do I need to peform some sort of incremental upgrade? From what I understand there are softwares like.... uh, ChoiDujour? That I'm supposed to *not* use because I'm on Caffeine.

1a.- if I upgraded emuMMC2 from version X to version Y, but later in life I need to restore a NAND backup from version X, can this get me in hot water as I'd have to try and upgrade to version Y (or Y+1) again?

1b.- If for any reason I need to upgrade the emuMMC1 (offline), can I somehow use the upgrades for emuMMC2, or do I need to upgrade via a cart firm upgrade?

2.- I read from the internet I can not go past a specific firm version (I think 9.x) in *any* emuMMC because it changes the cart slot firmware, making it unavailable both for the other emuMMCs *and* sysNAND. Would this essentially brick my other non-upgraded emuMMCs since I would no longer be able to use R-hold game access to launch homebrew?

2.- Any particular cares I should have when using the same physical cart on both emuMMC1 and emuMMC2? (Other than, say, running different saves)

3.- How can I, or is it even possible at all, install carts like Spyro Trilogy, that need to internet download the game to the SD card?

4.- Can I get a brief on Incognito and if it fits or is needed in my Caffeine scenarios?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the trouble.

  1. You can update emuMMC 2 which is your clean emuMMC online. Updating emuMMC has no effect on restoring the NAND. And you can use offline homebrew applications to update emuMMC 1 such as ChoiDujourNX or Daybreak
  2. You are slightly miscorrect. First, there are 2 updates for the cartridge slot; one on firmware 4.0 and the other on firmware 9.0. Secondly, these updates do not make the cartridge slot unavailable to use but rather unusuable on any firmware version below the one that was installed. So for example if you installed the cartridge slot update from firmware 4.0, then you cannot use the cartridge slot on any firmware below 4.0 on either sysMMC or emuMMC. If you try to use a cartridge on a firmware that is not supported, the cartridge will simply not work; the console will not brick. In fact, it is very difficult to brick the Switch
  3. You can either obtain them online or download them illegally from the Internet as a .NSP file and install them with a title manager such as Awoo Installer
  4. You do not need Incognito as Incognito is a self-imposed ban that may not work fully as it wipes the PRODINFO which cannot be regenerated but doesn't wipe all console-unique information

Hi everybody, it is from a while which I didn't use my switch, so when I grab it yesterday I found this situation:

I have an sx pro, switch with original firmware 6.2.0, sx os 2.5.3 and I think emunand enabled, because in the up right corner appear emunand under the sx os 2.5.3. I don’t know what version os emunand.

I would like to update everything in such a way to play latest games like super mario 3d all star but I don’t know what should I have to do.

The only thing I know is that the latest sx os is the 3.0.5 release and to update that I have only to update the boot.dat on the root of sd card. But next what I have to do?

Should I have to update also the emunand? Is there a guide on how to do this?

Next, I should update first the sx os and then the emunand?

It is really necessary to update emunand?

Is there a way to understand which version of emunand i have?

Thanks in advance, excuse me but it is a long time ago last time I iused my switch.

Hmmm I see, I think I understand better now. So basically if in emuMMC2 I upgrade to >= 9.x, I need to do that too in emuMMC1 if I want to use carts there as well.

You can either obtain them online or
I understand that to mean I can use the cart normally on emuMMC2?

Does anyone know how to change the button used to boot the homebrew menu from R to something else? My R button isn't working properly.
You change it via the override_config file in the config_templates folder.

  • That game requires a much higher firmware than 6.2 so if you wish to play it in emuMMC, then you will have to update it as well
  • The order doesn't technically matter but its better to update the CFW first as newer versions of CFW support more firmware versions but older ones will not always support the latest firmware versions
  • Check in System Settings

Exactly.

Correct.

Hey, I'm going to get modded Swtich with SX OS. I have a question about LFS.
1. Does 3.0.5b support LFS? I've seen some posts with opposite statements. Mostly interesting in graphics configs and translations.

To my knowledge you require an updated boot.dat that was made for the modchips, I'm sure you can find it on the net.

This is not correct - or, at least, not correct for all games - as I have just tested it with Overcooked 2. That game has NINE updates (and all fairly large). If I install just the XCI file and then the most recent update then the Switch still says there is a software update available.

Arrgg, I just deleted all of my lower version updates to make more room.

I'll go back and see if I can restore those other updates for Overcooked 2 off the temp drive. I have been moving my switch files from a collection of smaller drives onto a 10TB to have them all in one place.

I wonder how many others there are that need all the update files? Guess I'll find out when I get around the playing things and it still gives me that "Software Updates Available".

Ignore that end user. Another user already replied saying those are fringe cases as the vast majority, if not all, games have cumulative updates. I myself have yet to find a game that does not aside from the one that user brought up.

To be honest, I am not sure how it could be thought the updates were cumulative; if they were then each update would have to be bigger than the last and they clearly aren't.

TBH I would happily be proved wrong with the majority of games as the thought of installing 25+GB of updates for Super Smash Bros fills me with dread ;) But, not trying to be rude about it but the only post on this thread saying they are cumulative is you and there other forums around stating (by many users) that they aren't.

Obviously it's no biggie to download just the latest update and see if it works [ and then hope they don't have to be installed in order ;) ] but I am just saying that, from what I've read, it's very confusing.

EDIT: LOL - well there goes my theory, even with all 10 updates installed, Overcooked 2 still says there is an update to download.
