So, it took me many years of on/off playing but I have just finished botw.
While looking to see when the sequel is out I noticed Hyrule warriors trailer.
Am I right in thinking this is a wii u game? And more importantly does it play like botw, open world style game as it really looks similar!?

Thanks for the info, sorry for my ignorance!

I haven't played botw either, but I have played hyrule warriors (the first game). it's a hack and slash sort of game unlike the adventure series of zelda. you do find and use things like bombs, but it's not like some massive dungeon or anything like zelda.

For your information, Nintendo no longer developed Zelda or Hyrule on Wii U anymore. They are focus on Nintendo Switch and rumor to be Nintendo Switch 2 as well.

The game has some awful FPS Drops but all in all its a decent game.
It is the story right before BOTW and uses its graphics/models - other than that it has nothing to do with it.
its a spin off and has totally different gameplay.
just try the demo to be sure what you are buying.

I wonder if OC the Switch would help with those framerate dips...

I personally couldn't get into the demo, but might give it a shot again later this week.
to me its the opposite , i didnt like HW (last warrior game i enjoy was on ps2 lol ) played BotW too many time and enjoyed every moment of it , tried the demo for AoC , undurstood where they were going with this , tried HW again with another set of mind , enjoying it so far and cant wait to do AoC

I have never played a warriors game before so maybe that's why lol. I think the FPS dips were getting in the way of enjoying the game. Really hope switch pro is real and gives this game a boost. I don't think there is HW demo or I be willing to check it out

Overclocked to the max in handheld mode it runs at a constant 30fps. The resolution and foliage draw distance suck. Overall it's still the best way to play.

Overclocked to the max in docked mode has noticeable frame drops.

It should be possible through hacking to improve the resolution and foliage draw distance in handheld mode while maintaining a constant 30fps. We will probably never see a 60fps patch, unless you're running this on the hypothetical Switch Pro or Yuzu.

EDIT: My comment above was regarding the demo version. Apparently the full game has a much more stable framerate.

I've played the full game overclocked to the max in docked mode for a few hours now and it feels like 30 FPS with drops into the high 20's. It performs way better than the demo. Maybe it drops as low as 18 FPS in co-op mode but the framerate in single player is good enough. I don't have a HDMI recorder so I can't provide hard numbers.
