Developer IO Interactive, known for their work on the Hitman and Kane & Lynch series, announced today that they're working on a new James Bond video game, codenamed Project 007. It will feature an original story separate from any of the novels or films, and will reportedly be an origin story for the James Bond character. On the Project 007 website, they are recruiting for more talent, indicating this project might still be a ways out from launch.

Pretty surprised that IO got the licence in the end. Last I heard, it was going to be Ubisoft and the team behind Farcry that was going to be making the next James Bond game.

While I would like to see a timeline where Rare kept the bond licence and also didn't become what it is today, I think IO Interactive would probably make for the best people to do it outside of them. Definitely hopeful for this to be an absolute banger.

Re those wanting a James Bond stealth game.
Do check out the single player of Nightfire (its multiplayer was pretty good for the time as well), and there was also maybe the coop modes of James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing.

Nightfire started amazingly (first mission after the chase sequence) in terms of stealth and freedom. But after that the levels became more linear and had little stealth. Goldeneye on Wii at least has opitional stealth.

IO basically already surpassed 007 with the Hitman series, so I am somewhat over it. But I do still like the 007 franchise.

As a person who has not played much of the Hitman games (did not finish the one on ps4) but is a casual Bond fan, I hope the best for this game. I am a big fan of the Wii Goldeneye as I grew up with that game as opposed to the n64 original. I have yet to find a good spy game that blends stealth with sprinkles of high intensity action (Metal Gear is actually pretty close)
