I've just added a WD 5tb portable drive to my dock and it seems to work fine (unpowered).

However it doesn't ever seem to spin down even after I close the game and let the switch sleep.
So at the moment I'm unplugging it.
I want to leave it in because I don't really want my kids fiddling around with it, when they want to play something on the HDD.

Does anyone else have this problem? and if they do... is there a fix or workaround?

Thanks :-)

Edit - I omitted the word "down" from the title and I can't seem to edit it!
So sorry about that!.
I meant to say...

In the thread title you say the "HDD won't spin after Switch sleeps".. Yet in your post, you say that the HDD doesn't stop spinning when you turn off the Switch. I'm assuming you are having issues with the HDD staying active when the console is turned off. But please, maybe you should fix the title as to not cause confusion?

Yeah I realised that after I posted... But unfortunately I can't seem to edit the title :-( so I've added an edit (best I could do).

I also faced that issue but I resolved it with a ssd, really it is just unnoticable now.
Good idea... I'd love a decent size SSD, plus it would be faster, It's just that 5tb was less than $100! So economy prevailed... :-(

Thanks, I had thought about that but assumed that because it was all working it wasn't a problem.
I think I've got one on my WiiU (now gathering dust) that I'll give a try.
