I did something like that with the 360. however, the thumb stick is one piece. the top doesn't come off. it's attached to a small mechanism in the shape of a square iirc, inside the controller. you can replace the thumb stick entirely or do this:

this is for the 360 (probably the same with playstation). you put the replacement over the top of the thumb stick. you don't even need to open the controller to do this.

hard to tell, but those look like a normal analog sticks. on the 360, there's a small hole at the bottom of the analog sticks that a small lever goes into. they're very easy to remove, but you have to open the controller to do it. I don't really understand the logic of making the cap replaceable when the analog sticks themselves are like a buck.

I wondered this too. I think you would have to completely dismantle the stick to do it. I wasn't willing to risk trying, as for some reason the 1000 sticks are 10x the price of the 2000's.

Hello there! I got new analoge sticks for my Vita 2000, since I had terrible drift in the left one. I used the opportunity to change both and now I have original white analoge sticks. It costs like 10€ /$ and it is really easy to do. Vita is one of the easiest consoles to tear down.

vita 2000 have bad quality stick, cheaper, and they can be found clones from china with even 2-3 bucs, but vita 1000 have good sticks (never had a vita1000 with drift, and i guess im approaching the 40 ps vita fat i had in my hand in the last year and half) and is impossible to find clones, only salvaged one and the price is 20$ at least, EACH.

for this i was searching for a way to replace only the thumb caps.

yes, this seems the only way, assemble the stick, but is very difficult and you risk to have incorrectly calibrated after reassembly.

but seems few people was able to do this... sadly no one posted a video on youtube or a tutorial.

well, is not cheap considering a new psv2000 cost less then 3...
anyway, if the stick is broken, and if egamephone really they sell a brand new stick, i happily spend the money they ask.

what i dont like is to spend this kind of money when the stick is working 100% fine, only the plastic cap is broken/look bad.

do you have link to tutorial or other kind of resources about replacing the stick caps please?

I may have said this, but you can replace the thumbsticks themselves. I don't know how it is with other systems but the 360, but they're basically just pieces of plastic attached to a square peg with a moveable piece to move the analog stick in any direction. I assume the same is true of other systems. as far as just the top portion, I'm not sure. I've never heard of that with the 360 especially when it wouldn't be much cheaper than buying a new analog stick.
