[SOLVED]

I have a 32gb NTFS SanDisk Cruzer Glide and something about it is throwing USB Loader GX for a loop. It gets stuck on Initialize USB Device and stays there. I got syscheck to give me a log:

is the drive in mbr format? the only thing I can suggest is maybe using version 8 of the cios. that's the recommended version for the wii; version 10 is supposed to be for the virtual wii on the wii u.

I have no idea what mbr, version 8, or version 10 are. I'm pretty confident I know what 8 and 10 are, but not quite sure. If it helps, the flash is NTFS.

I think easus partition wizard can change the drive to mbr without formatting it. I don't know if it costs money now or not. cios 249-251 are using version 10.

So, the IOS installer gives me the option of 4, 5, 6, and the 2 10s. I have no option for 8.

Okay, I got past the snag by making the first partition Fat32 and the second NTFS, but I can't get it to read the NTFS bit.
I got it all to work, except for it reading my game. I reformatted the drive to entirely NTFS and it gets past the snag, but it never reads the isos. I have tried in its own folder and in the root, and neither has had any success. I used Wii Backup Manager, so I have no idea what the problem is.

I think you have to download it. look for version 8 final. I'm still using version 6, so I don't have it.
Alright, I figured some things out and fixed some problems, but more came up. I figured out that I can possibly get the bigger games on my SD via Wii Backup Manager as WBFS files, so I did so, but it is only recognizing GameCube games in ISO format and not Wii games in WBFS. I did get the 2 IOSes that you said to v8 by a miracle of stumbling upon some old post. I will keep you posted as to what comes up after running a few experiments.

Just use wiibackup manager to formate to fat32 32kilobyte sector size if you can't with your computer.
If your using d2xcIOS beta 52 then only one usb port works it's the one closest to the edge

I can't use FAT32 because Wii roms are typically WAY over the 4gb cap. I got the NTFS drive working but now it keeps (kind of) freezing when I try to open a rom in USB Loader GX. The background sound still plays, the cursor can move, but I can't click anything.

It's best to formate to fat32 it will work for both Wii and GC games wbfs corrupts after awhile and NTFS is buggy.
Use wiibackup manager to formate for drives bigger than 32 GB and to transfer Wii games larger than 4gb. And you can use wit GameCube manager to do GameCube games if you have a large collection .
The best way to test a usb drive is formate to fat32 then boot usbloader with it usb plugged in (port closest to the edge) if it hangs looking for a hdd then your USB is questionable if not then proceed to transfer your games

GC go in a folder called games then in a folder with its game title and game id if you want to download boxart, the iso should be called game.iso and if two disc the second iso is called disc2.iso
Wii games go into a folder called wbfs and can be iso or .wbfs

I got a good video setting up a Wii with a 2tb HDD and games

YouTube Justin case Wii and yiu can watch the whole process

The thing is all set up already and it gets past the HDD part. I fixed that last night. The problem now is that the games are recognized and I could play GameCube roms earlier, but after adding the .wbfs file of a Wii game to the drive, pressing a USB Loader GX app makes it hang.
