OP
How does Nintendo detect Mario Kart 7 online cheaters? Do they have moderators watching the games looking for hackers, do they ban people based on reports, or do they have a mechanism that detects AR codes?
For example, if I were to use an AR code that increases my speed very slightly and it isn't noticeable, could I still be banned?

BTW, the title was supposed to be "Question about Mario Kart 7 Online Cheaters". GBAtemp likes to snip the last word off of my posts.

Please don't cheat online.

Can somebody actually answer the question instead of yapping on about how cheating online is a bad idea? I'm not actually going to do it, this question is purely hypothetical.

Well, firstly. Ya shouldnt joke of stuff like that. Quite easy to get blacklisted from anyone watching you.

And second. I do believe its all based on people whom you race that file reports. They send in a report, it gets reviewed. If its quite obvious, then you will look at the consequences for it.

this is most likely the most common method used, other players reporting you. there may be some automatic flagging if certain things happen, but it's probably not a real person. afaik, when it comes to banning on any of the three main systems, you're first flagged (can either be automatic or from user reports), then it's reviewed by an actual person. I think the process for sony takes 7-10 days from the initial flagging. that's probably why no one is ever banned on the vita. that system was such a flop that sony would probably be losing money if they hired people to review flags.

‘Oh, I totally don't want to wrap stones in snowballs in a snowball fight, but I haven't actually found a way to do it properly. I totally do not intend to do it and this is totally a hypothetical question, but... how would I go about doing it?’

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
