Think of tinfoil like a web browser, and hbgshop or jits are websites that you can access through that browser. The GUI and application is entirely tinfoil, but the content you load is from hbg or jits.

The sigpatches you find on this forum are all the sigpatches for that version and below. So just grab the latest ZIP, extract it and the Switch will use the right versions from the folder. So no, you don't need to update the OFW but if you do then the new patches will already be on your SD card.
As for transferring files with Mac, I just use Filezilla with FTP to transfer them over to avoid the Mac issues with FAT32

I didn't know they made an MSU cart for the Genesis.... I knew about the SNES one and the library for that is rather large but the Genesis one has very few games+1
