Classic Metal Gear games are hitting the PC platform once more, as Konami has confirmed today. The original Metal Gear, Metal Gear Solid, and Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance are now available on modern computers through GOG. Not only that, but a handful of retro Konami games such as Castlevania 1, 2, and 3, along with the original Contra and Super C have also launched on GOG for PC. The classic Castlevania & Contra collection will cost $5.99, and so will Metal Gear, while both Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2 are priced at $9.99 each. According to Konami, these games offer better graphics, new options, quick saves, and even new gameplay modes.

You are Snake, a government agent on a mission to regain control of a secret nuclear weapons base from terrorist hands.

Now the international best-selling PlayStation game comes to the PC with better graphics, added features, and new gameplay modes! Unlike anything you've played before, Metal Gear Solid introduces a new genre of gaming where ninja-like stealth and cool head are your best weapons for survival

  • VR Missions Game included!
  • Optional 1st person play mode thrusts you into the action from the moment you suit up.
  • Multiple game controller support and improved quick-save function for ease of play

There was nothing wrong with Twin Snakes it was a highly regarded remake. You may not have personally liked it I'm sure you have reasons but it was not a terrible remake.

Metacritic 85 user score 8.9 https://www.metacritic.com/game/gamecube/metal-gear-solid-the-twin-snakes

I do personally like the original a little bit better but Twin Snakes was not a disaster by any means.

Not terrible, but not great in any way. Slapping MGS2 mechanics in MGS1 levels doesn't work that well; also cutscenes and voice acting are pretty... sub-par?

It's not bad by any means but it doesn't live to the original in any way other than updated graphics. The over-the-top cutscenes broke all inmersion and realism of the original (Snake jumping on a missile to fire another missile mid-air, doing a backflip to dodge bullets like we're in Matrix, etc). Also the gameplay mechanics from MGS2 broke most of the mechanics in the original environment, either making it extremely easy by comparison or outright making some MGS2 mechanics useless (such as soldiers in caution mode, which makes no sense the way the scenary is set up as there's less hiding places like in MGS2).
Again, it's not a bad remake (and I have enjoyed it a lot) but it doesn't live up to MGS1, 2 and 3.

They already tried Metal Gear Survive and it's a dumpster fire disgrace to the series (I don't even consider it part of the series of course).

Rumor is they are going to remake Metal Gear Solid 1 for PC/PS5. If it's a good remake great, I would be nervous about it though.
MGS1 has already been remake as GC exclusive.

You're not telling me anything I don't know. That doesn't mean they can't remake it again with modern day graphics. I did not start the rumor so I don't know your point.

yeah i should be more clear, my last statement was intended that MGS1 has been made as GC exclusive and KONAMI seems doesn't wanted to invest much money and resource to make AAA games again, instead they focused on GAMBLING MACHINES.
More like Konami will just get paid for licencing MGS1 to $ony and let them to do all the rest of job.

Hmm. Someone in the reviews says that the GOG package for Contra and Castlevania is different from - and inferior to - the Steam versions!
https://www.gog.com/game/konami_collectors_series_castlevania_contra

I was wondering if they were doing something absurd like using the arcade versions, but at least they're not that crazy. You'd think that it would be pretty difficult to mess up NES emulation these days, though. (Is this the first time an emulated NES game has turned up on GOG, one way or another?)

I still have original discs for MGS1 and MGS2 buried somewhere; I never did get around to playing them. I assume there are easy-to-use patches to get them to work on modern systems.

i may be the odd one out, but i just wish metal gear twin snakes got an hd remaster on ps4/switch, never understood why they didnt put it on the hd collection in the first place, it could be an alternative to the old as hell mgs1 psx graphics.

My theory is that when the original developers of the remaster filed for bankruptcy, the source code is probably in the hands of whoever was in charge of the bankruptcy.

Thank god for dolphin
I prefer the Wii Gamecube emulator. One of these days I was getting back to that one, but I wasn't getting to grips with the gameplay, for some reason.
I beat the PSX original with little to no challenge (the game wasn't that hard to begin with), but now I struggle with the controls.
Go figure.

But I wanna see Merryl's ass in true HD.
