...Where's Pokemon Yellow? Why did you leave Pokemon Yellow out? If I want something relatively-quick and simple and mostly-mindless to play, it'd be Pokemon Yellow.
I, Richard the King of GBAtemp, demand Pokemon Yellow to be added to this list! Royal decree!

Mole Mania, that game is pure class from top to bottom. I need to mention it whenever this subject appears.
Donkey Kong 94 it's another brilliant game made by Nintendo. Don't sleep on it, it's much more than a remake.
Pokémon - The Trading Card Game and its sequel are another fantastic titles I like to revisit often.

Cat-Trap is a fun Puzzle game with a rewind function if you screw up, so it's rather accessible.
Survival Kids got a sequel. Never left Japan but it got a fan translation.
Daiku No Gen-San it's a charming and really well done Platformer with puzzle elements, there's a fan translation too.

Tetris Plus has a very addictive Puzzle Mode where you have to help an explorer to reach the bottom of the screen, plus it has amazing music.

And talking about great music, Batman, the first one (from Burton's movie). The gameplay is basic but fun, but as I say, the music steals the show. Sunsoft knew its stuff.

Lock n' Chase is a Pac-Man styled game, and the GB version is pretty cute, and the best part is that you unlock an entire new set of levels if you beat the game!

Final Fantasy Adventure was a pretty innovative GB game. A spinoff, that would become the beginning of the Seiken Densetsu / Mana series. Because you can build up your character in different ways, it's one game I love to replay (going full magic is so satisfying!). I like it a lot more than the GBA remake, to be honest.

There are many others to check out too... I agree with the Hamtaro recommendation! It is another great game, really charming and very well executed (check the GBA ones too!).

...And just for the hell of it, the Microsoft - The 6 in 1 Puzzle Collection Entertainment Pack. Why? Because of this.

Edit: By the way, if you like Klustar, check out Deblock on the NES, I personally find it to be a quite enjoyable version of this type of game!

(edit: whoops sorry, didn't see someone already posted a link above, just use that I guess)

The only thing they did after the GBC ones was another one on the NDS, and it's stuck in Japan because it's a "playable tutorial" to teach kids how to play the game. The most you can do after the tutorials is battle 5 NPCs with a very limited pool of cards.

When I found about it I looked what Japanese people thought of it and most of what I got was people asking themselves why they didn't do a full game like what the GBC ones where after programming the engine to play.

It's such a wasted opportunity... But hey, at least the GBA got a number of great Yu-Gi-Oh games which filled the empty space quite nicely for me.

  • The two Harry Potters RPGs (specially Chamber of Secrets): As RPG they're not perfect, but they have a lot of charm, an enormous world to explore, the plot follows the book faithfully...
  • Tomb Raider and Tomb Raider Curse of the Sword: good lateral platformers with great visuals.
  • Mario Golf
  • Mario Tennis
  • Pokemon Puzzle Challenge
  • Avenging Spirit (although the Arcade version is superior)

I see you mentioned Pokemon Trading Card... Don't forget that there is a Japan-only amazing sequel, Pokemon TCG 2, that was translated a few years ago.
