If you're one of the rare individuals who is into video/audio encoding/decoding, you might have crossed paths with a program called FFMPEG.EXE. Is a popular video encoding application for some due to it's advance uses and it's available for linux mac and windows. Sadly, as I went to visit the usual page to get an update of it, the top of the page greets me with a message. This is the only place I know to get a windows build for the app. So if you are a windows user who values this, this news might interest you. If you are the type who likes preserving things, then this may also interest you, but I just wanted to share this with anyone who is unaware. :ninja:

Not sure if it would be okay to have a zip archive uploaded here, but I guess you can just put it in cloud storage or on some flash drive for safe keeping. Whatever happens, still sad news to me. :(

What's this, precisely? What does it do? I know main ffmpeg, but I'm not familiar with this.
And why are they closing down?
it is a power user video/audio encoder/decoder, that operates through command prompt. Not sure why this site is closing down specifically, but according to the main site that mirrors this one, it's the only one listed that host the windows build for it.

i went to /g/ on 4chan and they were screaming about the death of youtube-dl because of this. it's not the official repos of ffmpeg lol.
what? seriously? /g/ can't even build ffmpeg on their own? lmao:rofl2::rofl2:

I mean, You can just build it by yourself and use it. GCC is there for you. You can just build a recent build and use it for months. after some months, You can build it again. It's not even that hard.

Or just use this as an excuse to transition to Linux. It's just one `sudo dnf install ffmpeg` away.

/g/ doesn't actually know how to Gentoo. Anyway, with the prevalence of WSL, it's understandable why win32 binaries are being dropped. I'm assuming ffmpeg doesn't make any system level API calls that would make the Windows build more beneficial than the UNIX builds. nmap is an example of this, and why the developers will continue to maintain Windows builds. Also, as said above, it can still be compiled on Windows for one's own personal use. Just because someone isn't going to be providing builds anymore doesn't mean it can't be built anymore.

So, the few people that cared remember how I made this post a week ago. GOOD NEWS! :)
New windows builds will be maintained by another site. As listed on the official site, clicking windows download will reveal new site to obtain FFMPEG from.

Honestly I wish I knew this sooner, but I didn't which is why I got worried and made this post. A warning without much info regarding it is scary. But I assume that "new management" was just a reaction to it. :ninja:
