Nintendo Switch AR game 'Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit' announced

MarioKartLiveHomeCircuit.jpg

Nintendo is experimenting with other realities and this time, Ninty is trying out Augmented Reality (AR). During its Super Mario Bros. Direct to celebrate the series' 35th anniversary, the console maker announced Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit. Created in partnership with Velan Studios, this Nintendo Switch game is like no other as it requires physical Mario-themed kart toys to play. These karts come equipped with a camera and are controlled with the Switch console for an AR Mario Kart experience.

The physical kart responds to boosts in-game and in the real world, stops when hit with an item, and can be affected in different ways depending on the race. Players place gates to create a custom course layout in their home, where they can let their imagination determine the track. Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit allows players to race against Koopalings in Grand Prix to unlock skins to customise courses and costumes for Mario and Luigi, and also supports up to four players in local multiplayer mode .

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, which is available in Mario or Luigi models, launches on 16th October and functions with a Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite.

Buy a cheap RC car, place a Mario toy on top of it (maybe with some tape) and see him going. This won't cost you $250.
You sound like my parents, lol. "Why don't you just make X thing yourself and save money?" Nooooo, it's not the same.

I wonder how much of your house will be recorded and kept on a server to be hacked
I don't think Nintendo has any interest in uploading video of your dirty house and costing themselves more money in bandwidth handling ... and for no good benefit to them. But conspiracy theories are pretty fun to entertain, I admit. There was a suspicious amount of feet in that video, maybe Ninty employees have a foot fetish? Who knows :ninja:

I like the technical aspect but I can't even clear an area for my Oculus Quest, so I doubt I'd be able to play with this much. I hope that it works well. In my mind, if the course is too big, and has like mountains in the way, I feel this might glitch out.

im worried about the physics, mario kart has always had physics thar prioretize being fun over being realistic, but this will inherently control like a toy car

If Nintendo was smart they would make Mario Kart 9 via 1st person or 3rd person same how they do it in motor sport and grand turismo. They should consider adding damage to the kart and environmental elements to the game. Last but not least they should add the double dash option to the game aswell with a full roster.

But knowing Nintendo they will screw it up

but its not like i have a switch, a big enough house, or aclean room that wont make the kart get stuck because stray hair got tangled in the axels anyway

that would make items a nightmare to aim or to avoid

But.... almost my entire apartment is carpeted. :(
i moderate a fairly large LatinAmerican gaming group and many people joked about playing on cement/dirt floors being better than rainbow road lol

They basically took the R/C car and added a camera to it that goes for $40 so chances are it may start off at 99$ but hopefully $65/$75 ballpark

Can I submit this thread as evidence that some people here complain no matter what? I honestly never thought I'd see the day that people claimed they don't have a floor in their house.

Yeah, I get it : if it's entirely carpeted you'll have a slow motion race. And if you live in a place the size of a cell block you've got different issues. But it's it so hard to come up with a solution? Something like 'go outside'? Or do you live in an ultra infected Corona area?

Anyway... I predict that as soon as it hits a school playground, at least half the school will nag their parents to get it for them.

... I feel I'm going to curse Nintendo once my little girl goes to school. :ha:

I've got the perfect kitchen-island to drive around, I love the mix of ar/physical/game interaction. I'm gonna buy one (or two)... I'll be entertained for about an hour, so definitely worth it!

Hopefully "$65/$75 ballpark" -> each kart for each switch

Standard holidays package being a 200 plus the 70 dollars (lite+kart) before taxes, or if you have more than one child a couple of switches and a couple of karts... We talking around 550 buckaroos there, mate.

Whilst it's a good gimmick, I'm sure it will help sell a lot to kids, it's really just a hindrance.

I'd rather enjoy a good Mario Kart / game, rather than:

Faff on with extra costs (immense extra costs, knowing Nintendo these days, faults too)

Setup

Charging consoles
Charging controllers (possibly)
Now charging toy karts also, aswell as syncing, etc.

All to play essentially the same game. I'm sure for some kids it will be nice to look away from the screen once in a while to see a physical kart, until they have issues.

I can see the potential, aswell as they hype here, but it's just another cash cow and won't be anywhere near as fun as hoped.

you forget it controlls with the switch, so they had to remoe the fairly cheap rc control and add a module to interact with the switch oer wifi (from what i read above)

no obviously you have that as well it’s the same thing found in most smart phone interactive toys I just figured people would know that ,kind of like Sphero +ip cam but if you get hit in game it must stop broadcasting a signal to stop the car. I would be curious to know if the car hits something would it have and effect on game or be gimmicky like shaking a controller
