It has 8 chips--- WELP I'm screwed
Lol I had the exact same problem on my T500 and was confused for so long since there's barely any discussion about it online even though old thinkpads are pretty popular. Just about any low density RAM should work though, I think I have A-Tech RAM inside it right now

Thanks for the info! REALLY helped me out.
But I still have a queston:
Since the one I have doesn't work, im gonna buy a new one.
But... If I buy a DDR3L ram stick, will it work on my laptop (ddr3)?

Sounds like a dumb question, but I'll have to ask it if I want to progress...

You technically can use DDR3L RAM with the T400, but it will just change the voltage to 1.5V like regular DDR3 RAM, since those thinkpads don't support the 1.35V mode that DDR3L uses. The only problem is that some brands of DDR3L RAM don't support the 1.5V mode, meaning the laptop won't boot if this is the case. If you want to be sure that the laptop will work you'll need to get regular 2Rx8 DDR3 RAM. The 2Rx8 means that it has 16 little chips
