WB reveals Gotham Knights as the latest Batman game

As promised, DC has revealed the latest game to use the Batman license. The title is Gotham Knights, and it will release sometime in 2021. In the reveal trailer, various superheroes from the Batman universe appear, such as Red Hood, Nightwing, Batgirl, and Robin, who must protect the city from Gotham's villians following the assumed death of Bruce Wayne. A second trailer shows off the gameplay, where Batgirl faces off against Mr. Freeze, using series-typical stealth, physical combat, and gadgets.

The developers of the game describe that players will be able to take on missions in a variety of ways, through the different playstyles of each of the characters. WB Montreal is in charge of development of this game, while the upcoming Suicide Squad title is being made by Rocksteady, the team behind the previous Batman Arkham series.

The press release makes it 10x more confusing.

Damian Wayne ISN'T in this game. Even though it looked like him, even though it looked like both Robin and Red Robin were in this. Even though Robin looks like a kid, even though that's Damian's Robin suit with the hood, no, that's Tim Drake as regular Robin. Even though the Court of Owls had Damian involved in the comics. ???

  • Batgirl, also known as Barbara Gordon, is a determined fighter and a skilled hacker. As the daughter of deceased Gotham commissioner, Jim Gordon, she had helped Batman as Oracle in the past. Now, after years of recovery and preparation, she is ready to step into her new role, wielding her melee tonfa, and harnessing her training in kickboxing, capoeira and jiu-jitsu.

  • Nightwing is Dick Grayson, the first Robin, who was Batman’s protégé before becoming a hero in his own right. He’s a natural leader and the eldest and wisest member of the Batman Family. Nightwing’s mastery in acrobatics is complemented by his expertise use of his signature dual Escrima Sticks, making him proficient at taking out enemies.

  • Red Hood, formerly known as Jason Todd, is an intense and volatile anti-hero, which stems from his death and forced resurrection by one of Batman’s most dangerous foes. Red Hood has trouble keeping his temper in check but will not hesitate to step into the line of fire when a friend is threatened. His training has given him peak human strength and proficiency in multiple combat techniques with all manner of weapons – both traditional and high-tech.

  • Robin is Tim Drake, the young prodigy and genius of the team, who is a master of deductive reasoning. As a true believer in Batman’s mission, he is motivated by the conviction that Gotham City needs protecting and hopes to be the type of hero Batman personified. An expert fighter armed with his collapsible quarterstaff and skilled in a variety of stealth techniques, Robin also possesses a background in combined psychological warfare and behavioral sciences.

EDIT: Also, the title is Gotham Knights, not Arkham Knights. It's probably just a new Batman series, not related to Arkham. Because Robin is a kid, and Tim Drake was an adult man in that series. Also, Jason Todd is Red Hood, which wouldn't make sense going off what happened in the last game. /nerd

im sure this is a reboot. I commented without knowing there was a second video on gameplay. Yea Dick Grayson is the original Robin who later when to do his own thing as NightWing.

commenting on the gameplay. Why are all action games doubling with level systems and numbers and stats now?... its dumb. Looks like they mixed Arkham Knight with Fortnite graphics yuck...

I used to be a fan of DC stuff but now I just buy the stuff on impulse hoping it would be good. The Telltale series was decent. I like to see what stories they tell on how its told/executed. Most of all DC stuff in the past 7 years have all been bad. Ive been conditioned to just buy or watch anything DC since 1993 like one of Pavlov's Dogs.
what if you got yourself an actual opinion (once more information surfaces) and decided if you actually wanted it instead of wasting money on a game that you might not enjoy?

I think it's quite smart, imo. By making a Batman game without Batman, WB Montreal is free to try to make something different that can be separated from the Arkham legacy, and won't fully fall under its shadow. Plus, we've had four major games starring Batman; let the other cast shine, honestly.

another shoddy DCEU reboot. Hard to see them make another game off the same engine and graphics style and have it be of another 'universe', its confusing. I doubt it'll be optimized well. Graphics are also outdated. Its too bad they didnt freshen anything up. At least Barbara Gordon will be playable, her character model looked fantastic, although a bit unrealistically skinny. All the other character models looks clunky though especially Dick Grayson, who is supposed to be the most athletic gymnast the world never saw (standing quadruple backflip... i think). Not sure if that was Red Hood or Red Robin, or Red Robin amd Damian Wayne, too confusing. Although its for sure damian wayne because of the Owls. I'll end up buying it for sure though, sadly.

Uhhh...these games have nothing to do with any of the movies.

Maybe the end of this game is going to set up Damian as the new Batman?

Weird stretch, but I could honestly see it happen. Iirc, the original pitch for this game quite a few years ago starred Damian as Batman, made by WB Montreal. But it would be really weird to introduce Damian so young and then shove him into the role. Then again, games have the liberty to do whatever they want, which is why we got such a drastically different Jason Todd and Tim Drake in the past games.

"Justice League" confirmed. Choppiness aside, I like what I'm seeing. Attacks could flow together better, but that might just be the person playing it. Co-op and multiple charterers are great. My biggest disappointment is, that this isn't Batman Beyond.
Oh hell yes, never thought we'd see a playable Red Hood. Wonder how his story will compare and contrast with the rest of the characters...you wouldn't think most of them would be down with him running around shooting bad guys.
Non-lethal bullets?

So I guess I'm probably dreaming that it might come to PS4 and in reality it'll only come to PS5, correct?

Most games are coming to PS5/Series-X next year. This year will be the last year any games being released this year come to the PS4/XB1. Who knows if sales flop for the PS5/XBSX then we may get more games on the old gen.

It is all up in the air.

True but Hitman 3 is coming in January to PS4, although this will likely not be out in January and likely not on PS4 I agree. Luckily I just got a gaming PC and will probably just get it on there because I'm in no hurry to buy a PS5. I'm assuming a GTX 1650 can handle it, but that could be wrong IDK.

So I guess spoilers but Bruce being "dead" lines up 100% with the ending of Arkham Knight, and these are the same Robin, Red Hood, and Nightwing that we know from those games and their DLC. (Though batgirl obviously couldn't be Barbara) This looks a lot more like a continuation of Arkham series than a reboot.

Then again the AK expansion makes you wonder what Mr. Freeze could possibly be doing now. Hope it isn't something stupid like him freezing Nora again.

I'll leave my judgement on the game after I see the non alpha build. I played all the other Arkham games, except for Knight, because the PC build was broken, and by the time they fixed it, I stopped caring.

Also, knowing AT&T, if this fails to sell well, you can say good bye to Batman games. AT&T is in A LOT of debt, and is cleaning house. Wanna see something funny? Go look at AT&T's debt. You might be wondering why I'm bringing up AT&T? They own WB, which owns DC comics. AT&T just purged the fuck out of DC's comic book division recently, and cancelled a bunch of stuff.

It's funny you say that, because it was already reported they're trying to sell it. That's why I am surprised this game even exists or maybe it's to get buyers interested. Or maybe it has been in the works for awhile before they were looking to sell.

It looks like AT&T is looking to sell Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, or WB Games, with a possible price tag of about $4 billion. The company is reportedly selling the gaming division in an effort to divest assets to deal with its $165 billion debt.Jun 15, 2020

Some interested buyers are Microsoft, EA, Activision and others. I used to work for a wireless company called Cingular, who bought AT&T (yes THEY bought AT&T not the other way around) and changed their name to AT&T because of the name being more known world wide. I never thought they'd end up in debt like this.
