The Nintendo Switch has surpassed the sales total of the NES, bringing it to over 62 million units

The Nintendo Switch continues its red-hot sales streak by hitting a new milestone. Earlier this month, Nintendo's fiscal year report showed that the Switch had sold well despite stock shortages throughout the quarantine period, and due to the launch of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, bringing the sales total to 61 million. This put it on equal terms with the sales of the NES, which also managed to sell 61 million units during its lifetime. A mere few weeks after that fiscal report, though, and the Switch has overtaken the original Nintendo home console to secure itself as the 12th most popular gaming console of all time. These numbers come from the most recent issue of Famitsu in Japan, which are from July, meaning the Switch has shifted even more consoles since.

The next goal for the Nintendo Switch to hit would be 75.77 million units--the same sales total as the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.

IMO it's overpriced for what it is, but at least the games are good.

Hell, I'd argue that even the games are overpriced. Why are so many of the good games still $30+!? Let alone the first party games still being $50-60!?

I hate to say it, but if games are gonna keep getting expensive like this, and still charge for DLC and the like, I might find myself checking out of buying newer games and getting stuff on sales more often than I used to. I already had a bad feeling, going into the 8th/9th generation of consoles, that these would be the last ones that I'd be buying and playing with how much busier my life is probably gonna be in a year from now, and my interest in going outside and socializing more hopefully becoming more piqued when I can just be myself that doesn't want to have to care about politics, religion, or other shit that's designed to make you depressed and reading article after article.

Wow they consider that a milestone. Considering the fact that there are 100× more gamers than there was back in the nes days its not saying much to "finally" meet nes sales. 150 million units probably equal the actual nes if you consider the fact that the gaming base line has exponentially rose in 30+ years.

Just because it sells 60 million units doesn't make it good. The switch is average at best. I'm not even going to include 3rd party games. 50% of the library is remasters or a port and the other 50% are original games and content. The asking price of $300 is outrageous; it should be around $200 at best and the lite should be $150. You have to factor in most games you still have to buy at full price. (MK8, BOTW, SP2, DK) those games are 3 years old.

The switch is really good if this is your first Nintendo product. If you had all the other Nintendo products especially a Wii U then most games you are going to see are familiar. Nintendo need to make more games because their 2020 games are kinda disappointing they should have brought our a brand new Mario game and Pokemon game instead of milking that failed SW/SH DLC.

Personally I think there's a point to be made that the Switch should be striving to reach combined handheld and home console sales and the closest one it is to beating is the combined Wii U and 3DS sales which is around 89 million consoles sold. I've heard this argument more often now and it does have some merit.

The Switch is essentially Nintendo's handheld and console forces combined.

What about 255.65 WII/DS

I can also confirm this, I never saw it out of stock here in Germany, each one of the three times I bought one it was as easy as going out and getting it from the local Saturn store that has plenty of them in stock.

PS: Yes, I am the weird uncle that goes giving switches as gifts.
Russia, same situation - lotsa consoles in stock, just walk up to any electronic store and pick whatever revision you want.

there was a big shortage here for a few weeks around initial lockdown, although I would guess it was down to scalping rather than actual shortages, seems to be a bit better now and prices are dropping, but I did sell a couple of my spares during the spike which was nice

the most hilarious spike I saw was on wii consoles, cex were even buying them in at £60 each, and trying to sell at £90, one of my friends who works there told me they were flying off the shelves faster than they could get them, I have a mate who sells second hand systems, and he dumped his entire inventory on them (same with his 360's and PS3's) and made a few grand which was funny, now they have plummeted back down to being sold for £25, I have to wonder if they ended up making money or loosing it having bought in a ton of consoles at £60 each

like many other companies using covid as an excuse, i bet nintendo are doing the same as what they did with the wii, intentionally keeping shortage.

but ive seen loads of people taking advantage of this and bulk buying what stock there is and selling them for 2x the price.

but also not hard considering nintendo shit out multiple versions of the same fucking shit system, only difference been, wow i have a different color dildo controller, hmmm be cheaper to just buy the dildo on its own rather then have to buy an entire tablet again.
i live in portugal and go to spain regulary, i never seen any shortage here, every eletronic stores has a bunch of switch v2s and switch lite for sale everywhere, i bet its a us only thing imo.
