Played through the entire game 120 stars and it runs really well, based on the PC port. Does have some issues, same as on pc, for example the camera controls are nice but can cause clipping out of bounds and getting hung at times, lakitu is broken in rainbow ride, the koopa race in bomb omb battlefield sometimes hangs, the nessy in hazy maze will knock you off it's head, you teleport under stuff when swimming, and princess peach is a ghost semi transparent mess in the last cutscene.

All in all its very much fully playable and quite fun. Excellent port and the community has done fantastic work.

If the whole 35 year anniversary rumours pan out to be true(of m64, galaxy, sunshine remakes), this port will become pretty redundant :P.

I don't imagine the anniversary edition will feature as easy mods to the graphics, as easy control rejigging, as easy level editing/injection and all the rest of the things that having source code you can edit to your own whims, without having to deal with deadlines and conforming to whatever Nintendo's own internal acceptable practices/standards might be.

It wont. Even if they do make a new port/remake for sm64, theres some things from this version it probably wont have and some it certainly wont. For example a full remake might be less faithful to the original, might not be 60fps and certainly wont support custom textures and models, cheats and other custom options.

i downloaded v7 .nsp from that darkplace
and i downloaded 2 texture packs ,vanilla and crafted
so i want to use NSP builder to convert the .nsp to an .xci

i ran it through NSP builder and i put the .xci and the crafted res folder on the root of my card
i got the icon showing up in SX emunand on my lite but when i try and run it i get an error software needs to close because of an error

so does this always have to be installed or is there a way to get it running as an .xci ?

After looking at the trailer yesterday. I don't think so

im actually trying to figure out weather the 3d all stars version is worth playing at all lol.
720p some texture remodels/some original.
Does it actually do anything better than the port :P.

I don't understand why mario 64 from the official release isn't in 16:9 like the fan made port is...

I will be waiting for a tweaked "3D all star version" featuring the "enhanced" port of Mario64 instead of the original version.

How is the 3D All Stars version enhanced when it looks exactly like the original game?

Super Mario 64 port already has tons of enhancements: PuppyCam (free 360 camera), 60FPS, in-game menu (cheats, controls, visuals, sound, etc), models (Render96, with absolutely amazing models), texture packs, etc.

If you are expecting Super Mario 64 Switch to be more updated than the internal resolution to 720/1080P.. you will be disappointed. It doesn't even feature a simple frame/background.

Yup, I agree. I would rather wait for the optimised v8 user port than play for 100th time an straight N64 port

Would you mind elaborating on what's optimized between v7 and the upcoming v8 port? In other words, is it a Big Deal? I've been holding off on a v7 SM64 replay. It's clear this fanmade version is going to be superior to the upcoming retail release.

I read a couple of pages ago that v8 should be an optimized version of the V7 without lags, with the addition of Render96s model and texture pack.

Its complete but being optimized. I have it, its a finished product content wise and everything works but its very laggy at the moment. The dev team is working on optimizing some code and then it will be released. The reason for the long delay is a combination of this being a big update in terms of work put in and also waiting for some other connected projects to finish.
