I modded my Wii U recently (as well as vWii) and have been using TeconMoon's Injection tool to create injections for the Wii U. I've done all the steps properly and installed them from the SD card to the external HDD through WUP Installer G2X and they show up on the Wii U home screen. The thing is... only the Wii backups work. The GameCube ones (which say Virtual Console) start to load and then Nintendont says "No FAT device found."

I've followed multiple YouTube videos and guides to see what I'm doing wrong and I still don't know what the issue is. Every time I get to the part where I should be able to load GC games without issue, I get this error screen. The external HDD is Wii U formatted. Has anyone run into this before?

You must have nintendont boot.dol inside your SD card. The Injector has an option to auto-download the latest update

I have it in apps>nintendont>boot.dol. Should it be on the root of the SD card? I've downloaded the latest Nintendont in the injection tool.

isn't it supposed to be formatted to fat32, not wii u format? I don't know if this applies to injected games, but you can just use a nintendont forwarder to select a game from a fat formatted drive.

It's supposed to be, but every video on YouTube that I've seen has been someone injecting GC games to a Wii U formatted drive and it works for them. It's odd that my Wii backups work but my GC ones don't.

I do believe that TeconMoon's injection tool support was broken in a recent Nintendont update.

This might be the reason. Do you have more information on this? or somewhere you read it? Do you think it might be worth looking into older versions of Nintendont in this case?

Wii VC games and GC VC game are handled differently. Wii VC games are run using vWii game loader whereas GC games are run through Nintendont. Can't compare the two.

Still no solution on this... I'm at a complete loss. Wii U and Wii titles work without a single issue. What is the problem?

I had a similar problem. I was using TeconMoon's WiiVC Injector to inject Wii and Gamecube games as Wii U VC titles as I wanted all my games on one drive. From there I used USB Loader GX to install to the games my WD Elements (4 TB formatted to FAT32, then formatted by the Wii U - my dad gave me one from his work at IT, I know I'm not going to fill the whole thing up).

Wii injects worked fine, but GC games gave me the same, "No fat device found."

After hours of troubleshooting, what finally worked for me was putting an SD card in the front (FAT32). It DOES NOT need to have the game data on the card though. I installed Ocarina of Time/Master Quest to my HDD and, as long as I have an SD card in front, it was working. That being said, that SD card has my Tiramisu loadout with nintendont on it. I'm not entirely sure why this works (more troubleshooting will reveal that), but my initial (very naive) thoughts are that nintendont doesn't recognize the HDD as a viable place to store and save data for the games. I'll do some more testing, but this solution may work for you with some trial and error in what files are needed on your SD card.

tl;dr: Put a CFW SD card in the front (No game installation data needed).

Yes, after doing some more troubleshooting, I remembered that I did in fact initially have a micro-sd card with Nintendont on it. It was formatted as FAT32, but it still brings up the error message, "no fat device found." For reference, it's the Lexar Play 1 TB microSDXC UHS-I-Card. Not sure why that micro-SD card wasn't recognized. Maybe its size, or maybe the adapter to the front SD slot I was using? Regardless, yes, to fix the problem, just use a different SD card with Nintendont on it.

Hey,

Got the same issue after replacing my main HDD and reinstall all games with mixing sdcards.
The procedure is here : https://gbatemp.net/threads/boot-dol-not-found.551712/post-8851984

Or you can use the dedicated button :

So your issue might be the same as me : the right path to have it works is %SD_CARD_ROOT%/apps/Nintendont/boot.dol and not %SD_CARD_ROOT%/wiiu/apps/Nintendont/boot.dol

Hope it helps !

Ive been scratching my head for a while with this as i had the same problem. I have been using a 32gb fat32 sd card and kept on getting no fat device found. I found an old 4gb sd card formatted it to fat32, copied the content and straight away my gc games from my wii home screen worked straight from my wiiu formatted hdd. So in short try a different sd card and it will work.
