Uh, no. The transfer speeds for both are the same depending on one's router, and the SMB protocol tends to choke up much more than FTP. It also only works on Windows because Nintendo used an ancient version of Samba, and I'm not a masochist.

OP, the wireless chipset in the 3DS is garbage. O3DSs can only pull a consistent 600 kb/s, and the N3DS can only pull 1.2 mb/s. Don't expect upload rates to be any faster than this. In your case, though, it sounds like your SD is crap.
Well... maybe,
But as i said, it works perfectly fine with freeshop

That really doesn't mean anything. That sector of the card may be fine. The entire card doesn't die at once. Flash media corrupts like something slowly dissolving in acid. SSDs are the same way. What sucks about flash media is that it tends to be a roulette; it can last a year or it can last ten. It depends on how well it's manufactured, but lifespan is never guaranteed.

On paper maybe it should be the same, but in practice, FTP is slightly slower, not by much, but it definitely is.

old thread but maybe someone know now a fix?

I tried 3 different ftp tools on the 3ds and each behaves the same, my speed jumps between ~800kb/s and 0kb/s non stop, I need very long time even for small files. actuall speed is proably close to 20kb/s.

but transfer speed with micro sd card reader is fine, even boop uses full speed.

I can't get in build micro sd remote tool to work on windows 10.

right now I will try to reformat my card.

Try this to get MicroSD management working:

my sd is 128gb, should I use it or not?
My previous post has info on how to use SMB on Windows 10.

***
  1. If you have GBA VC games already installed in the Nintendo 3DS folder, backup 1–3 GBA VC injections into CIAs. If you don't have GBA VC games, download them from the Internet or make example injections with NSUI.
  2. If you have HOME Menu themes, select and copy at least ten (10) themes from the sdmc:/themes folder. Set these aside later.
    • If you do not have themes, download those ten examples from Theme Plaza.
  3. Copy everything off the 128 GB (micro)SD card to a computer.
  4. Quadruple reformat; set each program to do 'Quick Format' and FAT32 + 64 KB (65536) cluster size where applicable.
  5. Full Write + Verify the empty card in H2testw. Do not skip.
  6. If the results comes back [GOOD], delete the *.h2w test files. [BAD] result means the card needs to replaced.
    • h2testw_menu-png.210567
      h2testw_results-png.210862
  7. Build a test setup. Except for the 1–3 CIA from step 1 and themes from step 2, do not add back anything from your main setup.
    • Anemone3DS , FBI , Luma3DS , Homebrew Launcher
    • sdmc:/themes/<ten themes>
    • sdmc:/cias/GBAVC game 1.cia
    • sdmc:/cias/GBAVC game 2.cia
    • sdmc:/cias/GBAVC game 3.cia
    • sdmc:/3ds/Anenome3DS.3dsx
    • sdmc:/3ds/FBI.3dsx
    • sdmc:/boot.3dsx
    • sdmc:/boot.firm
  8. Safely eject the card from computer. Insert the card into the 3DS system. Turn on the system, hold the (SELECT) button, and use these settings for Luma3DS v10.2 configuration. Press (START) to save, exit, and boot to HOME Menu.
    • luma3ds_v10-1-3-png.214219
  9. Rosalina menu inject Homebrew Launcher to a system title of choice. When access is gained to FBI, install those CIAs injections.
  10. Play those GBA VC injections.
(A) If the GBA VC graphical glitch bug is present, your 128 GB (micro)SD card is not compatible with FAT32 + 64 (65536) KB cluster size. Jump to step 15.
(B) If the games play fine, continue to step 11.

11. HOME MenuHOME Menu SettingsChange ThemeShuffle Favorites. Select all five (5) basic color themes. Press (Y) OK.
12. Anemone3DSinstall theme shuffle with those ten example themes collected from step 2.
13. Check if the theme shuffle persists between boot sessions.
(C) If the shuffled themes do not work, your 128 GB (micro)SD card is not compatible with FAT32 + 64 (65536) KB cluster size. Jump to step 15.
(D) If the themes stay on HOME Menu after turning the 2DS/3DS on and off, continue to step 14.

14. Delete the test setup on the SD card. Copy your main setup (from step 3) back onto the SD card. Do not continue to step 15.
***

You are here because of outcome (A) or outcome (C) where your 128 GB or bigger (micro)SD card is not compatible in FAT32 + 64 KB cluster size.

15. Delete the test setup on the SD card.
16. Quadruple reformat the SD card back to FAT32 + (32768) 32 KB cluster size settings.
17. Copy your main setup (from step 3) back onto the SD card.

if you do use smb v1, do note that there are security risks. that's why it isn't on by default with windows 10. however, you need it for the 3ds micro sd card management as well as mapping network drives for the 360 and ps3. you can map networked folders though, which is like a clumsy way of networking. it's extremely unstable. anyway, enabling smb v1 seems to cause the vita usb connection to no longer work. that's at least what it did to me. I had to reflash a disk image to get it back, because disabling it still caused a failed connection.

thanks, 64k allocation size seems to do the trick, now I have around 1mb/s speed constantly. I think no gba glichtes so far, unless they aren't obvious.

the gba glitch is the screen being cut off at the bottom and it appearing at the top. at least, that's the one I had. no issues after changing my allocation size a while back.

Mucommander reportedly provides a much easier way to use SMB1, and it doesn't require you to enable the protocol at the OS level, apparently. (And since it's written in Java, you can even use it on a Mac or Linux.)
