If you are going to buy a PlayStation 5 would you buy the Digital Edition or the Normal Edition with the DVD / Blu-ray drive? :discuss:

Ideally, I'd actually want to get the digital edition. I never sell my stuff, so resale value doesn't matter to me. But the sticking point is that I might buy a limited edition or something later down the line, but will be unable to play it because it'll be on a disc. So, might as well go with the "normal" one.

99% of my library is digital, so I'll probably grab the digital version...unless the price difference between digital and physical versions is minuscule enough not to matter (ie like $20 or something, but I doubt it'll be that small, expecting at least $50+ off myself).

I would also go digital, as thats the whole point of an SSD drive. Another reason would be you won't find 5 to 20 dollar ps5 games well into some months after launch anyways

That is NOT the whole point of an ssd drive. You do realize that the PS5 is going to be just like the PS4, physical disc is used as a license key. Which means physical games will install to the ssd just like digital. Plus next gen games are going to be huge, physical copy of games will install way faster than it takes to download digital.

Yes games will install on the sdd. The psychical disc doesn't add any value when you try to sell a consol especially if the consol can be softmodded

Physical ofcourse:

1. I own the "game disc", can dump it/backup it in the future etc.
2. Can sell it in the future
3. There is more chance that you can find games cheaper...... many times, physical is less expensive and even if it isnt, you can always buy digital games. More options is always better and more chance to find a good deal (both physical and digital). Just pure logic.....
4.Globally, I think physical would install mostly faster than digital..... not only for the reason and fact that not many people on fiber internet or fast internet in general, remember, newer drives like bluray drivers are always faster (reading speed, writing speed) than previous ones.
5. Bluray movies etc ofc.... sometimes.

Its a no brainer for me..... always prefer the physical version, EOD!

I'm not getting a PS5 soon but here is my input on it.

If the price is $300 get the digital because Sony does offer sales occasionally for digital games just keep in mind you'll always have to pay full price for a digital game or wait for a sale or do game share. The physical model will always be better because you can buy physical games and also trade them and sell them with the addition of playing digital games. The only thing I would like Sony to do in the future is let people sell their digital games. Once you beat the digital game you cant sell it unless you sell your account but that have all of your private information on it. I know PS5 is the topic but either Series-X or PS5 they kinda do the same thing. If you game it is best to have a group of gaming buddies where you can gameshare and etc... therefore if you have physical or digital you can always gameshare your accounts not to miss out.

2020 We are not ready for a all digital console unlike the music industry people still buy and sell games on a regular basis versus music you can easily pirate it. Digital copies of games mostly apply to WAREZ because you will always have your digital copy if you have it on your HD versus lets just say for some crazy reason Sony or Microsoft goes out of business you could potentially lose your digital games or lets just say for some odd reason they delist it. This is another good reason if a console hits the EOL it can be soft modded/hacked to preserve the games.

I feel like the digital version will be cheaper so it is a good option for short term. In the long run though the disk one would be better since physical game prices drop faster and there is no incentive for online shops to lower the price. I dont even remember that last time I spent full price on a 60 dollar game. Unfortunately, it seems that the PS5 is signaling a transition for games to be digital only in the future. I hope that games will not go towards the streaming direction because any semblance of ownership will be gone after that.

Thought you'd mean edition and color, but Physical or Digital? Easy, physical!

Hopefully when PS5 Slim is out the design will improve and even more when it's PS5 Pro.

Quoted the wrong part. You own a license so you (and everyone else) don't really "own" it.

But to be fair, is the disc yours as you've bought it? Yes.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

If I buy any, then disc one, don't sell my games, but won't go fully digital on consoles until the UK prices are sorted out. £54.99 on PSN for last of us part 2, while a new physical copy is £39.99.

Almost always the same old shit, physical £39.99 or so, digital £49.99-£59.99.
Have you considered buying from other PlayStation Store countries like Indonesia, Brazil or Turkey? I see the prices are really good, but God damn making an account for each one that's a pain in the ass!

I hate how every game company has their own launcher on PC so this isn't much different, but still.. nah. I'll just use my one account. I actually lost access to a Japanese account I had as I forgotten the email and password somewhere.

I am going to buy both of them and keep the other one sealed until it get hacked of course. The digital version will be the one to be hacked.

An affordable one.

But what if it ends up being an optica-based exploit? You'd only be shooting yourself in the foot.
