hello guys, i'm an absolute noob and recently got a DSi and a flashcard (not really sure what version it is) and i have a couple of maybe dumb questions, but maybe you guys could help me out.

basically is this list:

1. How can i know the version of my flashcard? the sticker on the physical card says r4sdch, the help options say akmenu 1.62, HW:00 and sys NDSi1.45 & 6.1.0-12 ...... so i really don't know how to interpret that

2. the DSi says in its settings menu is v 1.4.1U, can i update to v 1.4.5U without risking bricking the DSi or the flascard? im specially fearful bricking the DSi

3. Im interested in installing the TWiLightMenu++, but well i don't understand what is Unlaunch, what you guys refer when speaking about NAND and SDNAND, and also what is nds-boostrap?

4. i kind of get the topic of the exploit using the DSi camera and an SD card, but i also read you can install it using the flashcard, right now i just have the microSD that came with the flashcard, and can't get a microSD to normal size SD adapter so easily (cant get a store to send it to me and well, i actually prefer not to go out unless necesary), thing is, i can't seem to find a tutorial on how to install it from the flashcard, so can it really be done? and is there any guide on how to do it?

and finally, 5. is installing and all the process diferent between a DSi and a DSi xl? i think they have the same software so it shouldnt be any difference, but well, might as well ask.

so anyway, thank you guys for helping me, i be really grateful for any responses you give me

1. Show a picture of your flashcard.
2. It is not required to update.
3. Unlaunch is what runs DSi homebrew with full system access. It also runs DSiWare from the SD card. NAND is the memory on the console, and SDNAND is the console memory on the SD card. And nds-bootstrap is what runs the DS games from the SD card.
4. See here: https://github.com/DS-Homebrew/TWiLightMenu/wiki/How-to-install-or-reinstall-TWiLight-Menu
5. There is no difference.

2. yeah, but i mean, could it be problematic if i updated it? is kind of an obsesive thing, but i kind of like to have every software with it's latest update, i mean if it can generate problems i won't do it, but if it doesn't really matter i kinda would like to do it

3. Do i have to install any of that directly in the NAND before i try to install TWL? on that note, is there anything i have to install before if i plan to install it from flashcard (like hiyaCFW or something like that)? and on that note could i install those to the NAND from the flashcard?

4. So sorry if i'm wrong but what i understand is that using the flashcard i would run TWL from the SDNAND, so does that mean that if i were to use the DSi without the flashcard the console would behave like normal, i mean like if i were to use a normal game cartridge it would run without any problems?

thank you again, sorry if i keep asking dumb things

1. Your flashcard is the R4i SDHC Dual Core. It's a time-bombed flashcard, so you should install TWiLight Menu++ on it.
2. It is safe to update.
3. Unlaunch only installs to NAND.
4. You can run TWLMenu++ from the SDNAND, without a flashcard.

Hello thank you again

I have starting trying to install it in the flashcat and have just a couple more questions,

1. Your flashcard is the R4i SDHC Dual Core. It's a time-bombed flashcard, so you should install TWiLight Menu++ on it.
There is no folders with that exact name in the autoboot or flascart loader folders, so that means i have to skip the autoboot and the run from flashcart steps, or does it mean there it has another name that is actually in any of these lists?

thankk so much for your time

For the autobooting process, select the "R4i-SDHC" folder.
For the flashcard loader, download YSMenu here. Do this first, before the autoboot process.

The last thing you should need, is "YSMenu.nds" on the flashcard SD root.

Hello guys, Sico here, ok so a couple of things i still feel can't understand

1. i have not installed neither hiyaCFW or unlauncher in the DSi or the sd(flashcart) so maybe that's what i been having problems setting the TWL menu? do i have to install one or both of those things in the DSi or in the sd(flashcart) before tryinig to install TWL menu?

2. in the guide it says:
DSi/3DS users: Run TWLMenu++ on the console's SD card, and turn on SCFG access in Slot-1. You'll be able to use TWL clock speed and/or VRAM boost on your flashcard games, as well as accessing the console's SD card, as a result.
&
DSi/3DS users: Run TWLMenu++ on the console's SD card, and turn on Auto-start Slot-1.

at first i thought it meant runing TWLmenu on the flashcard and then opening the menu of TWL, but those options aren't there, then i thought it meant using my flashcard menu options but welp, ain't there either. and finally tried the config menu of the console but well, that was also a bust. so my cuestion is, what does it mean to run TWLMenu++ on the console's SD card?, it is like opening TWLMenu++ using the camera exploit, and on that note, does it mean inserting the a SD card on the DSi SD card slot and opening TWLmenu using the camera exploit or unlaunch or hiyaCFW? or does it mean opening TWLmenu++ on the flashcart but using something like hiyaCFW?

Robz8 also thanks for updating the tutorial in github, and for the patience, thanks for that also

EDIT: redaction

EDIT2 or Update?: thought the problem could be that i was doing just the 1st part of the instalation guide before trying the others but well, completed the guide and still can't fin the options in the menu of TWL, and tried runing a rom and got a white screen that says Start failed. Error 1, press b to return.... also tried runing YSmenu.nds from both the flashcart menu and the TWLmenu and in both cases got a stuck in a black screen at the top and a white one at the bottom... so well, still trying

EDIT3 or Update again?: Well so keep trying and still no results, but did noticed something, in the releases page there are a
TWiLightMenu-Flashcard.7z and a TWiLightMenu.7z, i was trying with the first one but no luck, and then i downloaded the second one and there is a folder called flashcard users, tried using the files in this one but had no luck... also about the on console SD card menu, i found that pressing Y over a rom in the TWLMenu would display some options, so i tried it with the TWL++ rom but alas the SCFG access and the Auto-Start slot 1 options aren't there either, so still no luck :(

You need Unlaunch installed to use both the flashcard and the SD card with TWLMenu++.
Also, by running TWLMenu++ on the console's SD card, it means using either the camera exploit, or Unlaunch to run it. You should use Unlaunch though, in order to see the SCFG access option.
Also, to fix "Start failed. Error 1", just have "YSMenu.nds" on the flashcard's SD root, and launch a game that's on your flashcard. It'll automatically boot YSMenu, in order to boot your game.

kind of imagined that not having it would be the problem, but in any case that means i can't really install anything unless i have a SD adapter for the micro SD card, well at least now i know what was wrong and what i need to do, i will have to wait until i can go an get an adapter but when i do i will inform you guys of any progress i make. Thank you Robz8 :)

Thanks! Maximum of 40 titles regardless of game size?

edited: "game" size
Game size does not matter. Forwarders are small so the limiting factor is indeed the free spaces on "Launcher" menu and not free storage on SD.
On SysNAND with only 128MB reserved for user DSiWare, this is different. One would have to search for very tiny DSiWare in order to fill the 40 spaces before the NAND runs out of memory.

hello guys, so to update, i got an sd adapter and finally instaled twlmenu and unlauncher, however had to do it in the sdcard because trying to do it in the flashcard gave me the following problemas:

at first when trying to run twilightmenu++ on the console SD card it gave me the error "FAT init failed" (using the boot found in both the twilightmenu-flashcard.7z and also the one found in the flashcard users folder inside the twilightmenu.7z, both .7z from the releases that the github guide sends you to). however then i found that following the guide using the twilightmenu-flascard.7z the unlauncher menu shows various files called twilightmenu++ and the one that runs is the one that shows dsimenu.srldr in the bottom. with that i could completely do the first part of the guide.

however the second part is when it went really downhill, so, i did the YSmenu instalation guide both the primary kernel and the dualbooting guides, first with the flashcard files intact in the sd (that means the _rpg folder, and the _dsmenu.dat file in root) and then without the flascard files and in both causes didn't work, if anything, it gave me more problems because whereas with just the first step the roms would load with the nds-bootstrap after doing it all roms showed a white screen that said error 1. btw i tried the ysmenu of R4-SDHC, the DSONE/i (i don't know if it is a typo but the guide under the R4-SDCH guide says to use the files in the DSONE/i SDCH folder so after the first folder didn't work i thought it was worth a shot). also tought of doing it with the R4-clone but well the microSD is actually 16GB so i didn't try. and as i said, all options just make roms stop working at least when loaded from the TWLmenu.

and the third part wll i don't really know, i tried the files in both .7z for the autoboot, I tried just coping the files like it said in the guide, tried renaming R4.dat to _DSMENU.dat, tried renamig the _BOOT_DS to just BOOT and well the furthest i got was getting the flashcart to load but then from it i had to load the TWLmenu. so, if the idea was getting to load just the flashcard menu directly well it worked perfectly, but if the idea was getting to load the TWLmenu directly well, i failed considerably.

btw, after trying to do the ysmenu withouth the flascard files i found out that actually trying to load the flashcard without the _DSMENU.dat file just showed a black screen saying that the _DSMENU.dat couldn't be loaded and it was stuck there, even when i tryied renaming the R4.dat to _DSMENU.dat

so, anyway after failing miserably in the flashcard endeavor, i decided to install it in the DSi using the SD card slot (and the files in the twilightmenu-DSi.7z), and well it went without a hitch, well except for the hiyaCFW part, i tried to install hiyaCFW before installing TWLmenu but it was a whole other novela and just gave up after the frist time it didn't work. but nevertheless i could install it easily following the DSi instructions and just with unlauncher. but before giving an ending to the story i just have a couple of questions for @Robz8 about the options,

1. what is the differen between nds-bootstrap release, and nds-bootstrap nightly?, like is there any diference in the way they run or load the roms? whats different between the two?

and 2. Is the difference between runing in DS mode and DSi mode the speed at wich the games are run? and also, does changing the "Run in" option in the games and apps settings options makes all loaded roms run in the chosen option? because well i changed it to run in DSi mode directly in the settings but when i opened the rom settings (Y button) it still showed the rom with "Run in: DS mode"..... so i don't know

anyway thats all for now, and i think i just now realized that Robz8 is the developer and well you really are something amazing dude i really and again thank you for all the work you do :)

1. The nightly is the latest commit from the nds-bootstrap repo at GitHub.
2. DSi mode enables DSi features in DSi-Enhanced games, such as WPA WiFi and Camera. DSi mode currently makes those games not boot.

With both HiyaCFW and TWiLight installed, does tinkering with TWiLight settings persists when I'm using HiyaCFW or it's exclusive with the TWiLight menu only? Let's say like DS overclocking mode, higher sound frequency.
