Good evening people. I'm seeking help with the error I keep coming across.
This is my first time posting here, so please bare with me if I posted my issue incorrectly.
I already found similar posts concerning "The software was closed because an error occurred" error but most of them were about the start up of the game.
My game starts up and after a few minutes of gameplay this error comes up.

I recently updated from firmware 10.0.1 to 10.0.4 with choidujour
Updated the the SD card files with the SDsetup site and the latest sigpatches from this thread.
latest-fs-and-acid-patches-for-kosmos (dot) 562915
Paper mario installed through goldleaf.
At the attempt to start the software it prompted the cancel/start software/update.
I had accidentally clicked update and then turned of the switch.
My memory is vague concerning what I did afterwards because it's been going on for a week or 2 but I got to boot the game eventually.
After a few minutes of gameplay the following error message shows up
"The software was closed because an error occurred"
I get this message with other games now too

I'm running 10.0.4|AMS 0.13.0|S
payload hekate_ctcaer_5.3.0
SD card exFAT format

I've tried the following to try and fix this:
  • Install the game from xci instead of NSP
  • Install the game using different methods (Goldleaf, awoo)
  • Install a different game (super smash bros)
  • Delete all the contents of the SD and put again all the Atmosphere/hekate files
  • Use Fusee primary instead of hekate
  • Format the SD card and start over
  • Try a different SD card
  • Upgrade to firmware 10.1.0
  • Using other sigpatches (2.0.0-10.1.0_for_AMS_0.13_and_0.12_and_0.11.1)
  • Restore NAND with an old back up and start over with a formatted SD card.
  • try the sigpatches user w0nd3rb0yfx posted on #333 Jul 4, 2020 in thread latest-fs-and-acid-patches-for-kosmos (dot) 562915/page-17 (uploaded with my ask)
I tried everything that I could find / think of and I haven't seen any progress or sign of success.
I don't know what to try anymore to fix this.....
i would greatly appreciate any help I could get.

Edit:
I also read on another thread that someone had a similar problem with that this error would pop up when they reached the title screen of the game. They solved it by turning of cheats with Edizon.
But I've never used cheats / edizon before.

I've also tried factory reset, but the error still comes up.

In the thread latest-fs-and-acid-patches-for-kosmos (dot) 562915/page-20 user mikifantastik98 posted instructions on how to use deepsea boot. #387
I tried this and everything seemed fixed at first.
the game booted and I was able to play for a good half hour. The next day I continued playing but then the game crashed again.

Your SD card is exFAT which is well known to corrupt. Format the SD card and use FAT32 instead. Also ChoiDujour doesn't support any firmware higher than 6.1

Dear Draxzelex, thank you for your response.I don't understand the ChoiDujour not being supported by firmware higher than 6,1. it still works for me, even-though i'm on firmware 8+.
And if I can't use ChoiDujour to update the firmware, what do I use?

ChoiDujourNX is a Switch homebrew app that works with any system version. ChoiDujour is a PC app that doesn't work with newer system versions. He was pointing out that you meant to say ChoiDujourNX.

That being said, Daybreak has been released, and it's safer than ChoiDujourNX. ChoiDujourNX should no longer be used.

Thank you for the explanation. Yes, I was using ChoiDujourNX on the switch itself.
I restored the nand again
I formatted the SD card to fat32.
staarted from scratch with SD setup and the patches from gbatemp.net/threads/latest-fs-and-acid-patches-for-kosmos.562915/page-24#post-9155443 again.
used NSPsplitty on the NSP.
Updated firmware to 10.1 using ChoiDujourNX (before reading your reply).
installed the NSP with goldleaf.
Like when I installed deepsea in a previous attempt, everything seemed fixed.
i was able to play again for a half hour.
Put the switch in standby mode for a sec and then continued playing.
and then I got the error again.
(Coincidentally it was around the same point in the game as the first crash with deepsea).
and now the error occurs again after a few minutes of gameplay
I also just tried to play the game on another account (to see if the error still ahappenes in an early stage of the game) but it also displays the error message after a few minutes of gameplay.

Does this happen with other games?

I also tested it with Super smash ultimate.
but the same result
As a matter of troubleshooting, do the following:
  1. Make sure the SD card is FAT32.
  2. Remove all CFW files/folders from your SD card (that would be folders like /sept/ and /atmosphere/)
  3. Download the latest Atmosphere
  4. Download the latest fusee-primary (next to Atmosphere)
  5. Download these signature patches (for Atmosphere v0.14.1)
  6. Put Atmosphere and the signature patches onto your SD card
  7. Put the SD into your Switch
  8. Enter RCM
  9. Launch Atmosphere using fusee-primary

Can you try a different sd card? Can't remember where I read about that error, but I get the same error with Zelda botw every so often now that I'm on the new firmware, and I read it was sd related. Maybe try a different/faster card? Something to test/rule out.

If I were you, I would uninstall and reinstall the problematic games. Getting the NSP from a different source is also recommended.

Installing over a USB connection is also recommended over splitting the NSP.

If that doesn't work, my guess would be a problem with the SD reader.

I installed the NSP with Quark but was met with the same resutl.
Afterwards I installed the game from another source with Quark.
It seemed fixed (like with deep sea).
Was able to play like half an hour. But then the error message appeared again.
The different source also had an update for the game.
after installing that, it still crashed.

I replaced the SD card reader but sadly with the same result......

Try using Awoo Installer instead as Goldleaf is arguably the worst title installer.

Dear Draxzelex.
I've also tried installing it with the Awoo installer bt with the same results.
Through some trail and error I've found out tha the games don't crash if I play through the dockign system instead of the handheld mode.
I have no idea why this is.......

Sounds like a potential hardware issue.

the only time ive seen this error is with a linked nnid account, i unlinked mine with linkalho and the games with issues worked again, maybe worth a try?
I have tried your suggestion. But sadly the error still pops up.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Sounds like a potential hardware issue.
I thought so too since the error doesn't occur when the Switch is docked.

I'd imagine the switch doesn't output enough power to play the game in handheld mode but it does in docked mode.
But that's just me trying to grasp at straws of possible causes for the problem without actually knowing what's going on.

Hello all. 1st time poster. I bought my Switch with CFW with Atmosphere so dont know all the details on its history. Since I've had it all games have been working fine except two which launch ok but dont work then.

1. New Super Mario Bro U dlx - After much trouble and it getting hung up early in the game. I discovered and turned off the cheats via Edizon and now works fine (Solved)
2. Super Mario Party - The game loads and I can start and play for about 5 minutes or so. Then when i load the 3rd or 4th mini-game, it closes and i get "software was closed because an error occurred". I tried downloading different sources of xci and nsp. Tried installing via Tinfoil, Goldleaf, Awoo. Tried the 'Standard Cryto' setting in Tinfoil and nothing. I dont think I have an NNID since its been on Airplane mode since I got the device.

Since I dont have the experience of installing Atmosphere, sigpatches and all the other things needed, I am very hesitant to go that route to troubleshoot this game given that everything else seems to be working fine.

Any other suggestions / help would be appreciated !
