Hacking Is there a way to run Gamecube games from SD card using Nintendont and have gamepad support?

So I've been reading the Nintendont guide and I like the fact that you can run the gamecube .isos from the SD card (since I'm out of space on my NAND). However I don't currently have access to a wiimote and sensors bar or wii classic controller, so I have no way to control the vWii.

Further research led me to this thread, which says you can inject gamecube .isos and wii games onto the Wii U menu (as if they were their own channel). This means I could access them without having to go through the vWii AND it would have full gamepad support. I also saw that there is an option to have Nintendont as a channel on the Wii U menu, which you could open with the gamepad and then select the gamecube iso from nintendont's menu (all without ever needing to enter the vWii)

However, as I mentioned before, I'm out of storage space on my NAND. So my question is, is it possible to inject nintendont onto my Wii U menu. Then open nintendont with the gamepad and select an iso file from my SD card and run it?

And if it is possible to do, would I need to install HBC on vWii still?

I just want to play gamecube games from an SD card without ever touching vWii. And of course I would need to be able to play the game with the gamepad.

Simple, instead of making a forwarder for a single game make one for Nintendont.
Edit: Here's some extra information, the Nintendont forwarder is really light and would barely take any space on the console. But you would need to first configure Nintendont on the vWii in order make a forwarder. So you might as well get a Wiimote and a sensor bar.

Hmm. So there's no way to configure Nintendon't without Wiimote/sensor bar?

Wouldn't Wuphax put Homebrew Channel on the vWii without me needing to go onto the vWii?

I have a copy of the forwarder to nintendont downloaded. Couldn't I just load the forwarder onto my SD card in the install folder and install it with WUP Installer?

Or would I need to open the vWii after installing HBC to configure Nintendont before installing the forwarder?

Wuphax does not install the Homebrew Channel, it simply replaces the Mii Channel with the Hackmii installer so that you can install the Homebrew Channel and restore the Mii Channel when everything is done.
And the forwarder directs the Wii U into either the Nintendont app or a Nintendont forwarder installed on the vWii (If it did the former, then in theory you could just have the Nintendont app in your SD Card and see if the forwarder works but I can't confirm if that's the case)

Ok, so then I would have to open vWii to get to the Hackmii installer.

So if the forwarder was able to direct the Wii U into the nintendont app on the SD card, would I even need HBC on my vWii?

Yep, to use the Hackmii installer you need to open the vWii, and that would require a Wii Remote. Altough you could use the GamePad as a sensor bar too.
And for the second question, again I can't confirm that. You could test that and see the results.

I found this thread that gives this method:

1. Install the Nintendont vWii forwarder using your favorite vWii wad manager.
2. Put hbl2hbc on your SD card with a file named "hbl2hbc.txt" on the root of your SD card.
3. Make sure the text file just contains this one line without quotes: "WWND=Nintendont".
4. Install the hbl2hbc forwarder on your Wii U menu. If you just need hbl2hbc to launch Nintendont you may want to change the meta information after installing to give it a Nintendont icon and description text.

And that will let you launch Nintendont without needing a wiimote since the Wii U sees the forwarder as a Wii U game, not a vWii VC game. Please note, you'll only be able to launch the hbl2hbc forwarder using a CFW like CBHC.

It looks like it might work, but I'm not sure about step 1, is that something I'd need to do on the vWii? I'm guessing the vWii wad manager would only be accessible from the vWii?

That method is useless to you since it requires access to the vWii.

Ok. Well my brother has a wiimote, so I'll just get him to mail me one. Then I'll just use the gamepad as a sensor bar to access vWii.

Is it possible to have gamepad support on Gamecube/Wii games without using the VC injector script? All out of NAND space and don't feel like dropping money on a hard drive rn.

Again, once you set up Nintendont on the vWii, just create a forwader to Nintendont for the Wii U. The forwarders are extremely light and will not occupy a lot of space. They're less than 5 MB.

Ok, I have room for the forwarder on the NAND. So when I run the nintendont forwarder I can for sure use the gamepad, not only to select the game to play but also play the game itself?

And I can use the gamepad as a sensor bar for vWii, even if I don't have a wii sensor bar connected to the Wii U?

Yes and yes. In order to use the GamePad as a Sensor Bar, just touch the Wii Menu Icon and when it asks you wehter you want to use the TV or the TV and GamePad as a display, press the + button on the Wiimote to use the GamePad only as a display. That way it opens the vWii and you can use the bar where the camera is as a sensor bar.
Edit: I confirmed the exact size of the forwader I'm using. Its size is of 10 MB. So sorry for not remembering the exact size. Still, you should have room for a 10 MB forwader unless your NAND is that full.

No worries I got at least 1GB on my NAND so it aint a big deal.

External hard drives are dirt cheap nowadays and would solve all your problems.

I'll probably get one eventually so I can install some Wii games and more Wii U games. Will any usb hard drive work as long as I have a Y usb cable?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Then as soon as everything is set on the vWii, just set up the forwarder and you're golden. Feel free to contact me if you need help setting up the vWii.

Thanks. I'll let you know if I have ant questions

Just don't use flash drives they're just as expensive as regular hard drives (although everyone seems to have them laying around) and they may work for awhile but one day you'll go to play something and it'll be dead because they're not meant for games.

Install a nintendont forwarder to your WiiU home menu. There's one in this thread or Direct link to download. That zip has nintendont inside it as well, but you don't need to copy if over if you have it on your SD card already. If this is a fresh install, then just copy everything from that zip to your SD card.

Put the SD card into the WiiU and start up haxchi, then hbl. Use something like Wup Installer GX2 to install the Nintendont forward. Go back to WiiU home menu. You should see a new icon for Nintendont. Launch it. It will ask if you want to use the gamepad. If you choose "no" it will ask for a wiimote, if you choose "yes" it will just start up Nintendont with the gamepad assigned to the player 1 controller. Nintendont will ask if you want to look for games on SD or USB. Pick SD. Choose your game and play it with the gamepad. Before launching the game you can also configure Nintendont using the menus built into the application. All this can be done using the gamepad. The settings persists though so if you're swapping between games that have something like 16:9 support and those that don't, you'll probably want to change the setting accordingly before launching your game.

Note that Nintendont requires your game isos to be named "game.iso" in order to be seen. See the Nintendont thread for more details.

It's basically exactly what you described. You can install the forwarder to WiiU's NAND or to a USB hard drive. Keep mind the forwarder is very tiny, so even if you're "out of room" on your NAND, I'm pretty sure it'll fit...

With this setup you don't need a WiiMote or sensor bar at any point.
