Nintendo Treehouse: Live - July 2020 - live coverage

What could Nintendo possibly have to show us today, with their announcement of a Treehouse Live event, and the tease of a brand new Wayforward title? We'll find out imminently, when the broadcast begins. Stay tuned to this thread, or watch as the stream airs, in order to see what mystery Nintendo will unveil.

We get to see some gameplay for Paper Mario: The Origami King, as promised. He gets abilities to solve puzzles, as well as partners throughout the journey. You can use your hammer to smash things to collect confetti to patch up holes throughout the world for coins.

Battles take place in rings, where you want to line up your enemies for attack bonuses. You can use coins to extend the timer for setting up your rings in fights. Lining up every foe will give you a 1.5x multiplier for damage.

You don't need to solve the battle ring puzzles, but it's essential to getting through fights fast. You can use 999 coins to heal and have Toads partly solve the ring for you. Boss fights will take place on a ring where you move yourself along it to better position yourself for attacks. You want to build a path to the innermost ring.

The big secret reveal is a new Bakugan game.

Bakugan: Champions of Vestoria, launches November 3rd.

An original story based on the series. Real-time RPG battle system with tons of quests. There are factions. Each Bakugan has 4 ability slots. There's 80 Bakugan types. Your monsters fight in an arena while you throw energy cores on the ground to help your Bakugan.

This is only rumors is a Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 also the 3DLand/World coming to the switch but these are only rumors nothing confirmed.

Even if true it's pathetic. Those games are all old.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Haven't played Paper Mario 10 min and there's already motion controls blah.

So still no Mother 3 localization, Pokemon Gen 4 remakes, Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime 4, or Prime trilogy eh?

Nintendo can get fucked. Their games are shit right now.

this stream was a nice way to assure people the new paper mario is just another sticker star
if they wanted to kill all hype it had going, they aced their job
give these people a raise, nintendo

wayforward with a pokemon clone, complete with crappy models and pop in models so pokemon players feel at home ( gotta work on that frame rate though, it was too smooth )
it's a flash game, but in 3d so they fork 60 dollars from sorry parents who have kids who don't know better than to like off-brand pokemon
why people still give money to wayforward is beyond me, they make nothing but barely playable kusoge
just goes to prove monster sex jokes, outdated and overdone grandpa humor and nostalgia can sell even the worse of games

I consider myself a hardcore gamer my entire life since the 80's, but I've never even heard of Bakugan. I probably saw it several times and just ignored it.

To be entirely fair... Bayonetta 3 is on Platinum. And the gen 4 remakes won’t likely be a thing for a while as GF continues to work on the SWSH DLC. However, the smartest thing Nintendo could do right now is release Mother 3, either as an eshop title, or as part of the Online VC library. It’d be a great way for them to distract fans from a fairly weak 2020 lineup.

Metroid Prime 4 started over like what, a year ago. We'll be lucky if it's a Switch title at all. Or maybe it'll be end of gen and on Switch and Switch 2.

Bakugan? What?
My bro and I used to be into that when we were younger; introduced to that via a childhood friend of mine. I still find the DS games to be fun time-wasters, actually (for the first game, use an Action Replay to unlock every Bakugan in the store, then replace the Leonidas given to you at the start of the game with a bought one. Buying a Bakugan allows you to put one extra point into a stat - a point not given to Leonidas normally).

I wonder how good this Bakugan game will be...

True story: I have an old Bagukan DS game with damaged contacts (doesn't work) that I use as a dust plug for one of my 3ds's.
That's the extent of my Bagukan knowledge before today.

I don't think that's a good omen for this announcement.

The Paper Mario game looks fine, really. I really don't want to be the guy posting that Francis quote over and over, but don't judge a game before playing it.
But then what's the point of showing trailers and previews if we're not allowed to make a judgment based on what we see before deciding to buy it or not? No one says a thing when a trailer or a preview catches someone's attention and generates hype; but when the opposite happens, this tired old argument always pops up. See the double standard of this?

Honestly I'd be really happy with a Mario Sunshine reveal. Galaxy/3d would be 2nd best imo.

But for real, they need some actual new games for Christmas season..

Also, Paper Mario Origami does NOT force motion controls, you can turn them off in the settings.

I've seen it go both ways, and for me, trailers are a horrible way to figure out if you'd like a game. Though new Paper Mario gave us ~10 min to judge it's "cover". I'd say instead of relying on trailers (at all) wait for gameplay videos, or got the old route of "try before you buy". Obviously no one is saying you can't judge a game based on the trailer, but i've never seen a game trailer that actually displays the experience of playing.

So I could say trailers are only made to entice people to buy the game, and thus shouldn't be trusted at all. Only rely on first hand experience. Only you will know if you will like a game. Trailers give a taste, but real game-play shows what the game really is.
