Sorry for my ignorance, but to update the updater, what should I do? Do I download this lumaupdater.cia, put it on the SD card, install it with FBI, and then run it from the Home Screen?

Just recently, Deadliner posted these steps and order in which to update:

Update LumaUpdater to 2.5
Update Luma3DS to 10.0.1 (If you are on Luma3DS 9,0, you are already using B9S)
Update Homebrew Launcher to 2.1
Update GodMode9 to 1.9.1
Update to the latest 3DS firmware via the normal method

In the 3DS Hack Guide you can find links to the GitHubs or other repositories for the newest files. You might have to click through some pages to get there--they're usually linked atop the page they would have been needed on when installing CFW.

Additionally, TurdPooCharger recently posted about updating as well, Maybe check those threads out as well.

Just a few weeks ago I started diving into this. More than likely I am about as lost as you are. However, I still remember struggling with the basics. If I am writing something incorrect, I am sure someone will correct me.

When going online, check if under System Settings > Internet Settings > SpotPass > Sending of Information has been disabled. Additionally, check if in the orange Friend List icon on the Home screen under Notification Settings the option to Show Friends What I Am Playing has been disabled.

If your 3DS already has custom firmware (CFW), you can check this page to update boot9strap (which is the thing the entire CFW runs on, if I understand correctly).

With CFW your 3DS most likely also has a Luma icon on the Home screen. It's the green/blue, cute alien standing on a green leaf Open that app, and you will see what version of Lume Updater is installed on your system. If that version is the same as the latest release of LumaUpdater, you're good on that front.

EDIT: If LumaUpdater has a new version, it will say so when starting Luma, I believe. Sorry, that was your question. When you have the latest LumaUpdater, you can close and restart--or maybe first reboot the 3DS?--and then open Luma again. With the latest LumaUpdater, it will now check if Luma itself is on the latest version.

If those boot9strap and Luma are up to date, you should be able to then go into System Settings and see on the top screen that you have a CFW version (starts with "sys" whereas official firmware would read "ver"). With B9S and Luma ready, in System Settings > Other Settings you can click to the right until you find System Update. An up-to-date B9S and Luma will work together to install the newest version of CFW.

Hopefully that makes sense, and I have not made any mistakes there. The experts will let me know if I have.

gotcha i think im starting to understand, the issue is when trying to update im getting a download error which version 2.5 is supposed to fix but i have to install it manually. although after reading some of these articles i think i've discovered a few issues. when i turn my ds on i have all the icons but when i click into some of the folders it says theres no applications and to make sure they are in the root directory. Which led me to digging in a bit more comparing to the article how it should be set up. It seems things aren't in the proper folders but are on the sd card. So i think i have a few things to sort out if not potentially re do to be on the safe side. Thanks for the help, definitely filled in some blanks. I'm wondering if before it was sold to me they moved stuff around so i still got all the games they already downloaded but made it so i couldn't download more, maybe to eliminate the possibility of me or whomever ruining the system on accident

I downloaded the zip, what do I do?

-Open the zip, drag and drop the the Luma3dsupdater v2.5 file into the CIA folder on your SD card or simply to the root of your SD card.

-Take out your SD card, inserted into your 3ds, turn on your 3ds, launch FBI.

-Once you're in FBI, click on SD and look for the luma3dsupdater file where you put it(either the root of your SD card or in your CIA folder). Click on the luma3dsupdater and it will prompt you if you want to install the file.

-Click install and delete the file, then you're done. Exit out of FBI and launch Luma3ds and you should now be on the new 2.5 version

Hi guys quick question - I not been on my 3DS for several months and see there's an update from my version. I had luma updater 2.2 and I then installed v2.5 and followed a tut by sthetix on YT. But when I run it I get
The configuration file could not be found
d, skipping. . .
could not get location header for 3xx reply
Ret code: ded92

I'm on version 9.0-dd6e071 of luma .. I've tried a few things but going in circles.. Any help or advice most welcome..
Also I just read - that I could just download luma 10 and put the 2 files on the sd card ?? is this right??

It's a real shame that this updater can never seem to stay working. It's the easiest way to keep Luma updated without needing a phone or PC and fucking around with an SD card.
