Can I ask a newby question regarding the Wii Guide. On the home page it has a link to the Complete Softmod Guide which says under the cIOS Installation that cIOS d2x-v10-beta52 should be loaded into base 56 slot 249 and base 57 slot 250. However when I go to another page of the Wii Guide about the cIOS it additionally says that base 58 slot 251 should be loaded with cIOS d2x-v10-beta52. So the Wii Guide is indicating two different installations.

Maybe the reference to installation into base 58 Slot 251 is just another bit of security but maybe someone out there knows what is more correct?

The only relevant cIOS for USB Loading is Slot 249.
Slot 250 is a "Backup" if a Game is really not working (very rare, but possible...)
Slot 251 is not really needed....

For the Revision/Version -> d2x-v8 final and d2x-v10beta52 are near indentical and both are very good to use.

For the Base:
There are some "Issues" with the latest USBLoader GX Revision r1272.For this Cyan recommended Base 57 on Slot 249.
As it turns out later it makes Troubles on some Wii Configurations in Combination with USB HDDs (not to mention USB Sticks and this Kind...)..:(

So it is still this Setup - > Base 56 on Slot 249 as it was since 100 Years (Quote from our Wii omniscient Professional @tswntk ).
Base 57 for Slot 250 and if you need it Base 58 for Slot 251.You can install it,it does not hurt your Wii.:)

Good Luck and
Thank you.:)

Many thanks for all the advice. I hope someone can also help me with another question please. I have a modified my Wii with the Complete Softmod Guide (Homebrew, cIOS d2x-v10beta52 in slot 249, and PriiLoader) and I am using the latest USBLoaderGX with a WD Passport FAT32 external Drive on which I have loaded about 30 games. Most run fine but I have 3 games which when initially clicked on show the normal loader screen (with the 'Settings' and 'Start' buttons at the bottom of the screen together with the ratings stars and Play Count) but the background is black (see picture below) whereas all my working games instead of the black screen show an 'intro' of some sort. When I do press start for these 3 games my Wii returns to the main menu.

I was wondering if the USBLoaderGX settings aren't really relevant when I first click on the game (at the 'intro screen' as described) and more likely the wbfs file(s) are wrong in some way.... or maybe I have another issue.

As a bit of background I did have a game that produced the black screen (a wbfs file downloaded from the internet) but I deleted it and used USBLoaderGX to load the same game from a games disk it was fine. I also tried a couple of internet sources to download one of the games I'm struggling with (both an ISO file [converted via Wii Backup Manager] and a wbfs file) but both generated the black 'intro screen' as described.

I have read a lot of stuff about black screens but generally they seem to occur when the game is started and not at the USBLoaderGX 'intro screen'. There seems a bit of black magic sometimes with various ideas around to fix it but I'm struggling to really know what might be happening.

PS I haven't supplied the output of a sysCheck but I can do so if it helps. Many thanks.

I don't think I have ever said Base57 has "troubles on some Wii Configurations in Combination with USB HDDs", at least it should have the same compatability as base 56 (apart from game compatability). Newer games that are designed to run with latest stock ios newer than ios56 (i.e 57, 58, 59) may not work with base 56. Luckily that is not common.
ios249 base56 was recommended before stock ios57 was even released and since the game compatability difference is small, you don't need to change from cios249 base56 to 57 if you have already installed, just add base57 to slot 250 and switch per game as needed. The reverse is also true that if you have installed base 57 to slot 249, just add base56 to slot 250. Either setup is OK

I think you have mixed up d2x beta52 and beta53 issues.

@RWA
check you games' SHA-1 checksum with WiiBackupManage to see if they are not bad dumps - never trust anything downloaded from the Internet

usb loader gx problem, whenever i try to load a game (Rhythm Heaven Fever) it crashes to the homebrew screen. i assume its because i dont have a cios installer. I have tried using the official website for installation of d2xcios, but when i follow the tutorial, the beta versions do not pop out when selecting configurations, as it says in the tutorial . I really would like to play this game but im new to modding and am having problems. I would really appreciate if you respond to this message. thank you! :)

If the filename states IOS then it's an original IOS. If it reads cIOS then it's a custom/modified IOS.

The disc channel on a virgin wii will detect what standard IOS is needed by the particular game and load that (I. E. IOS36). This is very different from usb loaders which will use whatever cIOS is installed to slot 249 (or 250, or a whatever slot is selected in the settings). USB loaders DO NOT inspect games and load different IOSs based on the game. Rather we have different cIOSs with different compatibility. That's why you have more than 1 installed so of 1 doesn't work for a particular game you can switch to a different cios slot for just that 1 particular game. In any case, this is all rendered moot now because we have 1 CIOS that works in all situations for just about all games. This is the cios modmii will tell u to install to slot 249 (in older versions it was slot 250) is of course d2x Cios 249 base 57 v8 final (which is the same as v10 beta 52). So really that's all you need, but no harm in installing backup cios's to other unused slots.

Now there are a handful of games that don't work with any cios, for these you would need to set up sneek or neek, this is basically an emulated wii system running off a hard drive or SD card. This will work much the same wii as the disc channel of a virgin wii like I described above, where it will load the unique IOS called for by the specific game. Then it gets even more confusing because you can have a USB loader that can also use neek in combination with a CIOS to basically get the best of both worlds. Check out modmii's usage I wrote up a pretty decent description of what sneek is and how it works on that page.

Modmii will have u install a cMIOS because it will work with original gamecube discs as well as backup discs (assuming the wii hardware is capable). This can be disabled in ModMii's settings.

Edit:
ModMii will have you update your standard original unmodified IOSs by default (again this can be disabled in the settings). By installing these, it will ensure the wii can play the latest original discs from the disc channel without requiring an internet connect to conduct an official Nintendo update (which may also overwrite some other mods in the process). So by installing these IOSs it basically serves to update the wii while still avoiding an official update.

There's some other software out there like pimp my wii and ciosCorp or darkCorp that will install patched cIOSs overwriting ALL the standard IOSs. This allows you to play backup discs from the disc channel without a modchip... but it messed up a bunch of other shit in the process (all to avoid having 5o load backup discs from an app versus the disc channel, so silly if you ask me). This kind of set up is generally frowned upon in the community, and to be honest it's obsolete and inferior since the scene has evolved to usb loaders instead of backup discs. Anyway, modmii will overwrite any IOSs that are patched that shouldn't be with the same original unmodified versions that you would get from a Nintendo update. This allows critical software to behave normally, like the hackmii installer.

There's a solid reason for everything modmii recommends in its "bloated installation". Modmii installs extra brick protection that is difficult to explain but long story short, if u downgrade certain wii's, or upgrade certain other wii's, you can brick your console. Modmii installs a patched ios60 (an optimal one size fits all system menu IOS, originally from 4.1 firmware) to the IOS slots used by ALL system menu's. This will save these types of wii's from bricking during AND after the softmod process. So if after you use modmii and you decide to downgrade a newer LU64+ wii to 3.2 for no good reason but stupidity, you won't brick. Anyway, this too can be disabled but I felt the need to respond and justify your "bloated installation" comment. It's all good though, and I hope this long post helps to clarify things for you

the cios v8 does not appear when i load d2x, i dont know how to fix this problem, are there any other configurations i can use? i dont want to do anything blindly, so i would appreciate if you could reply to this soon, thank you :) ( i deleted the link so i could quote)

So I'm trying to use my old wii, but the SD card I had made of my wii with the NAND backups and all of the relevant bootmii/HBC files on got overwritten and now I'm unsure how to get my wii into a mode where I can reinstall hacks - I can run bootmii by installing the relevant files to the SD card, and using it I can tell my wii is running v4.3U, but I can't load into the system menu or HBC (running system menu from BootMii just says "The system files are corrupted.", and I'm fairly sure I can't run HBC because the files for it just aren't there). I would love to try to reinstall hacks, but I can't even get to my settings to find the MAC address. It's been over 5 years since I hacked my Wii, so I'm essentially softbricked to the extent of my current knowledge. What's the solution here?

EDIT: as it was done years ago, I have no idea what custom ios are running. backup files on my old computer are also sadly lost to a HDD failure.

Not sure what you mean by 'load d2x'. Modmii will have u install d2x v8 by using a wad manager, not the d2x CIOS installer that runs on the wii.

What happens when u try to launch the HBC from the bootmii menu? I'm not sure what you mean when you say the files for the HBC just aren't there. The HBC should open even if you don't have an SD card or USB hard drive, and to populate it with apps you just copy apps to sd/USB to the apps folder.

Note you can run the hackmii installer by selecting bootmini.elf from bootmii's mini launcher. So if you can't launch the hbc try this

Screen goes to black if i try to launch HBC. Also, as much as i've read on the hackmii stuff I still don't know how to use it. I'll try that and see if anything happens.

EDIT: as far as I can tell I can't load bootmini.elf from BootMii. I'm on BootMii v1.2, stub v1.5, mini.0.3.

If u can get into the HBC you can recover. As a first step, run and post a Syscheck.

Ultimately you will probably need go reinstall your system menu and system menu IOS. Then reinstall priiloader and from here just use modmii to make sure u have optimal softmods in place

Hi everybody !

Not too long ago, I got some amazing help fixing my children's Wii with which I was experiencing a banner brick...

Now I dusted off my own modded Wii from about 2 years of inactivity. It was working perfectly fine when I boxed it then... Now once I try to load games with USB Loader GX, I get a black screen and that's it !

I ran a system check...

Would anybody tell me what they think ?

Secondly, I tried to run it through the Modmii feature that fixes problems by dragging the sysCheck.csv file on the Modmii shortcut... Modmii tells me there are 20 files I need to download to update my softmod... But when I type the ''Y'' in order to download and generate the guide, it tells me that the ''Copy_to_sd/Wad'' folder already exists... Only thing I can think of is that this is from about 2 weeks ago when I fixed my children's Wii...

I would like to know where this folder is in order to delete it and have the folder clear for this troubleshooting of my own console... I know this may sound a bit weird, but I cannot find it ! Is this supposed to be on my PC somewhere ?

Thanks in advance for any help provided !

Your ios249 is not ideal, but yeah just use modmii to get it fixed up.

Go to modmii's options menu to see your current download location

OK, I managed to update the IOS236 and the 20 files that were wrong using Modmii...

Now I tried my USB Loader GX and the problem persists...

I am now trying to run another systcheck, but the first time it got stuck on IOS248... I have tried a second time and now it's stuck on IOS247...

Please help :O

Thanks in advance for any hint...

The thing is, it works perfectly with my Wii U...

I suppose you can use a drive that contains Gamecube and Wii games on the Wii and the VWii, right ? Or should I get two different drives to do the same job, one for each console or not ?

What would be the reason that it works perfectly fine on my Wii U and not on my Wii ? I guess the drive isn't to blame... And it used to work perfectly fine on my Wii 2 years ago...

Much thanks in advance for any help !!

Hello,

You mainly need only three CIOS on your wii (249, 250, 251) with bases 56, 57, 51

In what format is your external hard drive ??

Is your loader up to date?

For usb loader gx, try with version 1271 ==>https://sourceforge.net/projects/usbloadergx/files/Releases/New revisions (3.0+)/

if you still block with your CIOS, use Modmii to resolve the problem.

anyone has succefully buy Shakedown: Hawaii for Nintendo Wii™ , i try but sold out..

I did not, but saw that they also were to release Retro City Rampage DX+ along with Shakedown: Hawaii today, 07/09/20.

Otherwise I think the only one I'm missing other then these two new releases is Let's Sing 2018.

Hoping to see these show up.
