Hello, I'm feeling that we need a better savegame manager.

Maybe one like JKSV or Checkpoint would be really nice, the 3DS and Switch savemanagers are really good compared to the one we have on Wii U and one to get everything a lot faster and organized would be really, really nice.

I'm about to quote some people from JKSV and Checkpoint, I hope it's not an inconvenience to do that, because maybe someone from their teams wants to make a good savegame manager for the Wii U.

@JK_ @EventAssistant

Thanks.

I would be willing to help making another save manager.
Maybe we could just port checkpoint? The Wii U has a SDL2 port so that shouldn't be too hard to do.

I almost literally saw holanime dropping out of the Wii U's reach, one day I was happily watching School Rumble and the next day I only got an error message instead, this was last year and it was the last compatible anime page I know, now I have to settle with Crunchy's selection and what little anime there's on YouTube and Facebook, it was like the end of an era to me...
Agreed, a more functional web browser would go a long way. Wii U is just a really convenient and comfortable way to browse at times.

Wait, are you saying there's still no ScummVM on the Wii U ? I didn't check as I already have it on my 3DS but ScummVM on a touch screen is just badass (point & click feels like it's made for touchscreens). I'm slowly learning GX2 (the Wii Us graphics API) so maybe I'll try to port it in the future. If some other dev wants to do that job before me feel free to do so, guess I'll need a long time anyway.
I don't know for sure about scummvm, but it took me quite a while before I realized that dosbox on wii u didn't seem to be using a touchscreen mouse or on-screen keyboard entry, and that made me sad. Though admittedly I may have simply never figured it out...

If we could make newer versions of these libraries for the web browser.

libwkc.rpl
libopenssl.rpl

a newer openssl library would fix all the SSL related errors.
And afaik the WebKit library for the Wii U is open-source.

Sure the browser would always require signature patches to run then, but that shouldn't be a problem for Haxchi users.
With a little bit of luck and if libwkc.rpl really contains all the open-source code, it should be possible to update it with newer WebKit libraries and a newer Javascript core...

I hope someone will try. The Browser really deserved more love.

Sorry. I don't have a Wii U or a team. I'm just one guy working on stuff when I can and don't have time to maintain another project even if I had a WiiU.

There is already some discussion to exchange openSSL. It's not primary for the browser but for homebrews through. Anyway, you might want to route the discussion into the right direction: https://github.com/devkitPro/wut/pull/136#issuecomment-632698635

//EDIT: Thinking more about it getting into that discussion would be wrong as they don't have the browser on their radar at all / it's out of scope for devkitPro. A more sane solution would be to wait and see if they add a new OpenSSL library, then replace libopenssl.rpl with a simple wrapper to that new library.

I see, that's sad then, I love you savegame manager for the 3DS (and Switch).

I hope that @GaryOderNichts fins people to port Checkpoint then, or that the team on Checkpoint can work with Wii U. Because SaveMii is really, really, reaaaally slow, also it doesn't save games with their name, only with the IDs.

It's fine when you don't have anything else, but I would love to se a JKSV like the 3DS one but on the Wii U.

Would it be possible to create a homebrew to automatically update the Wii U date and time when it runs, based --- for example --- on the Network Time Protocol?

It could be something very simple, with only one option to configure the Time Zone and the other to run the application.

I ask for it because my Wii U was bought used and the screw on the RTC's battery access door came stripped and I can't change it. Updating those information manually, every time, is very annoying...

This type of application could be useful for this case of mine or even eliminate the need to change the battery.

I would find it very useful.

It would probably be easier to just repair whatever is broken with the battery.

Could the PC port of Super Mario 64 feasibly be ported to the Wii U? I understand it's available as homebrew for the Switch, but I'd really love if I could play it on my Wii U.

Out of curiosity, what does the PC port have over the other available options for playing Mario 64?

Proper full widescreen, 60fps, capable of outputting in 4K, full camera control. And best of all, the ability to use far higher quality models via fan mods. This is my current favorite fan mod being worked on, making the graphics look like the Mario 64 promo art of the time:

Amigo, you're better off using RetroArch for that. There are no widely used standalone Wii U emulators, so the ones that you saw are most likely just forwaders for many Wii emulators. RetroArch does not only play NES, SNES, GB/GBC/GBA flawlessly, it also allows you to make screenshots and so much more. As for N64, it is sadly not on the best place right now. The best option you have is to use Wii64 overclocked or to make an injection. It all depends on compatibility, so choose the one that works the best for you. Here is a compatibility list for N64 Injections, and here is a compatibility list for Wii64.
If you are interested in setting up RetroArch for the Wii U, click here for more information.

I personally disagree with a lot of this sentiment. Retroarch is good for a last measure, but it's slow to initially boot into each game, and isn't the most user friendly experience. If you instead use forwarders for the vWii emulators like VBAGX, FCEUGX, SNES9XGX, Genplus GX, etc. etc. You get emulators that load each game considerably faster, output in the same quality considering these games were never made for HD anyway, and if you install them properly, you still get all the great benefits of the Wii U: pro controller support, gamepad support, etc. etc. And I say this as a man that still uses Retroarch on my Wii U when I need to, like it's the best option for playing Atari, Virtual Boy, Mame, etc. on the Wii U, not to mention the ability to emulate 2 Game Boys at the same time, but I would absolutely recommend those vWii forwarders (if you get the right ones) on the Wii U over using retroarch for all emulation needs.

The slow loading times can be dealt with by deleting a specific folder, and I don't mind them anyways. And the only thing I would not consider user-friendly is the set-up, that I can agree to be a pain. But actually using RetroArch is pretty simple and intuitive. The only reason I use those Wii emulators is for certain things RetroArch can't do, such as light gun games and gyro games on the Game Boy family. And even though VBA worked fairly well for me, I think that FCEU looks horrendous (at least on my TV)
But at the end of the day this is a matter of preference, so choose whatever you think is better @oleguer.

Yeah I know, I've done that, but it's still slower to switch between games. I'd still argue there are too many unrelated options within retroarch to be as intuitive as the software could be. I dunno what you're talking about FCEU not looking good though, I genuinely see no real difference between it and Retroarch's NES cores. Don't get me wrong, Retroarch has a place on my system and gets some good use out of me, but I really would suggest the vWii forwarders for a lot of the older systems instead. It is about preference, and that's mine.
