I only recently homebrewed my switch and was wondering what my otpions for emulation were. I wanted to emulate gamecube and wii, but it seems the only way to do that is through lakka, which doesn’t support wireless controllers or docking (both of which I want). I’m mainly looking to emulate local multiplayer games and for single player games I simply use my 2ds xl. What would my best options be for emulation?

Switch is not powerful enough for gamecube and wii, forget it (for now at least). I mean... You can try emulating it in lakka/android, nobody is stopping you, but if you expect to actually play and complete gamecube/wii games and not just try to boot/find speedhacks/fps cheats or something to get at least somewhat decent performance (with MAX overclocking of course), just don't bother then...

But other than that, almost everything before gamecube (ps1, n64, psp, dc, even 3ds is coming soon let alone stuff like snes or genesis), is very playable and mostly full speed with RetroArch and some standalone emus.

I guess it will deppend on what consoles and games you wanna emulate. RetroArch, Lakka and Android are the the current options to build an emulation hub.
If you are gonna go for a single system or maybe just a couple of them, you may as well look for the actual homebrews isntead and use them as stand-alone apps, since they usually are more stable than their respective libreto cores.

The most important thing you need to know is that there's not such thing as a perfect emulator, and aside that, every single game runs differently as well.

I've only gotten one GC game to run perfectly, and only in L4T Ubuntu. TimeSplitters 2. I only tested TS2, Metal Gear Solid, and Super Mario Sunshine, and a few others I don't remember tho.

I tried all 3 options (Android, Lakka, Ubuntu) and Ubuntu (with Ishiirka Dolphin) seemed to run the best. Especially for TimeSplitters2. None of them can run MGS at playable framerate.

Edit: Ubuntu supports Docked, wireless, and other controllers. it's kind of a pain in the ass to setup Ubuntu properly. Make sure you have at least an hour to mess with it, and READ a whole lot. There are 2 main threads for Ubuntu. Main Thread here and Application Install thread. Be sure to read the last few pages as well as the OP in both threads.

Alright, that actually sounds pretty good, I think I'll look into that. Thanks for the advice.

Well, I don't really care too much about console accuracy, just playablity. I'm mainly hoping/looking to emulate wii and gamecube on my switch and to be able to use wireless controllers and the dock with them.

I don't care too much if it's on the original switch, I just wanted the ability to play wii/gamecube games on the go, docked, etc. with wireless controllers through the console itself.

Then I have some bad news for you. While technically both consoles can be emulated on Switch, the truth is than only Lakka is able to perform something kinda playable for now, which means no wireless control.
Besides, we are talking about GCN, forget about Wii.

I know this defeats the purpose but someone who has nice gaming pc and never leave the house. u can use your pc as a steam machine and stream the emulation from the pc to the switch.

so at least you can play around the house with no issue

I also have a PC, honestly not a bad idea, but what I ended up doing is just buying a wii u lol. I might actually sell my unpatched switch tbh.

Basically ^
After reading all this I don’t really need an unpatched switch for emulation, and I wouldn’t really want it for any other reason (mods, turning cartidges -> software, etc), so I’m probably gonna sell my unpatched switch. What price do you think I could get?

We are from different countries so I'm not sure how much could you get. Take a look at ebay, that should give you an idea for the range of prices you can put your console at.

Seems like around $350-400 since mine’s banned from online, which is honestly great because I got it for $150 2 years ago.

but wii u has a limitation of IR in u have to be in front of the console and close to console where the switch is over wifi

that's what the pad uses for wireless play

That's not true. The IR is for controlling the tv. It does have a crappy wifi chip with high variance. Some people have no issues and some people get drops 6 ft away from the console. The signal is also super subject to interference and so just straight up won't work in certain environments.

Well, I'd probably be playing with wired controllers and if I play wireless I'd play a good distance away.
