To start, I will say I do indeed like french fries. Is just deep fried potato. (Health enthusiast gasp) But I also have a problem with them. Most of the time I'm eating french fries, is with hamburger or hotdog. It's common here to serve as a "meal" or combo when ordering from various fast food places like McDonalds, Burger King, wendy's and even chinese kitchens. The problem isn't the french fries themself, is the fact that it comes with the stuff I eat.

Hotdog and Hamburger are beef meat between bread, and french fries can feel much like bread too. They both are considered starch by the way, and they are also dry and similar texture. Not to mention "Potato buns exist." So I just feel like is "more bread on the side." Chinese restaurants have a combo of french fries and fried chicken. (Is cooked in flour meaning more bread) At the pizza shop, they have similar combos, even fish which is also fried in flour so of course... more bread. And even the basic sandwich gets french fried comboed.

Is just too much bread in my opinion to add fries to all of these things. Some people I know eat sandwich with Potato chips, subway has them in bags that you can have with your order. I feel is much better since the chips aren't as big as the french fries. I guess this is why I got used to eating the variety known as "Shoe string" and not the big chunky or wrinkly ones. I can of course also complain about onion rings cause it's also of course deep fried in flour making it bread too. But what do you think? I would probably just eat them if I wanted a snack or maybe for breakfast, with eggs and sausage. Makes good substitute for hash browns.

French fries is good, but to me it feels like fast food places uses it to compensate for making up most of a combo meal. Like having a overload of rice cause is lots of it cheap to buy and easy to make. In other words, expendable. Instead of equalizing it with the other things in the meal like meat, it's something that's I often considered last to finish or even unfinished.

The real "Issue" today with French Fries is not only the Potato Quality of the Fries (thanks to the EU they can throw all Potatoes from all EU Countries together, yeah that is a "United Taste"..:rofl2:
.....but the Oil where they fry it.
All these Companies like McDonalds,Burger King,Inns and so on uses "special" BIO,Vegan/Vegetarian bla bla bla shit Oil....
Not to get too FAT.....
The Result - intestinal sluggishness and constipation without end. That is why French Fries are overkill for our digestion these Days....and as Bonus a :shit: Taste....

Thank God in Austria we still have a Thing called "Lebensmittelcodex" (Food Codex) for special Meals/Dishes/Ingredients...
(That for what the EU is still fighting us.....A Piece Independence and National Tradition for Proper Names/Products in Gastronomy.:yay:).

Fries are way tastier than bread.
But, replacing the bread with fries instead wouldn't be the same. You need something to put the meat and such in. Potato buns are also not the same thing as fries.
There isn't a huge amount of fries in a typical fast food meal, but some junk food restaurants I've been to give you way too many fries, that they're like 2/3 of the meal. But I don't care, because it's more food and it tastes good, it doesn't come at the expense of the burger, and you don't have to eat it all if you don't want to (but it can be rather wasteful if someone with a smaller appetite might only eat a small portion of the fries leaving like 3/4 of it)
When I make burgers at home though I just tend to eat 2 burgers instead of having fries. But that's mostly because I can't make fries nearly as good as the fast food places do.
In the end we eat junk food because it's tasty and it satisfies a craving and fries do a very good job of satisfying that craving. We don't eat junk food to be healthy. So if you are eating junk food just enjoy it, if you want to eat healthier, eat something different instead.

There have been questions raised about the US having chips with everything rather than as the main carbohydrates option with a meal or not at all. Most other places it is a choice of things (chips or wedges, chips or rice, chips or mashed potato...) rather than an extra you get or a default addition.

It combined with serving sugar water with everything, plus the whole sedentary thing, does seem to go some way to explaining the epidemic of fat bastards.

Just don't order the meal? Here, at least, a burger plus drink is still cheaper than a meal deal so nobody is *forcing* you to have the fries. If you want fries but want to cut down the carbs, have chicken nuggets or some other non bread related product.

Chinese restaurants have a combo of french fries and fried chicken.

Sounds authentic!

Are you sure you're not confusing Chinese restaurants with KFC?? ;)

Cook your own food and stop eating so much fast food? I don't really see the problem with giving people choices and letting them decide.
In an ethical sense, sure.
In a practical sense... have you seen the amount of fat bastards around?

It would also rely on you teaching people how to cook.

When I go to MD (ones in like 4 months) me and my partner order 1 medium meal along with a extra big mac and some nuggets or something. The ratio fries/other things is much better. When sharing you can taste all the shitty food without getting the full calories. I'm 1,76M tall (or short) and weigh about 77 kg, I think I'm not that fat (but yet a bastard).

I hate to think what their diet was for the last couple months. A lot of people I know used that time to learn some basic cooking. They were surprised by how much money they saved too.
As Cook I am also "surprised" how many People have the 'Will" to learn it today.:yay:
A very nice Attitude/Behavior.

Myself loves Burger King and Fast Food too.

As a Kind of compensation for every Days cooking.:D

I think they’re over kill at some places. Like 5 Guys as an example. You ordered fries? You bet your ass they’re going to burry your burger under the fries in that bag

I liked the reports from people responsible for hospitals that were in turn having to deal with serious burns when they were more "we would rather have had the beds for dealing with those with the kung flu".

I prefer fish with me chips.

MacD chips are horrid btw.
It's not even chips, it's salt with chips in it.
Every time I get chips from McDonald's they are always either way undercooked to the point of still being uncooked potato. Or they are cooked for far too long and no longer resemble anything close to a chip. Plus you are right about the salt.

At least you get something that looks like potato haha.
MacD chips I've encountered where mostly hard husks of fat.
