My flashcart gets stuck on a whitescreen when booting a game. Sometimes, the game will work for a few seconds before freezing.

Thing I've tried:
Making sure the internal switch is on "D"
formatting the sd card
trying other sd cards

Is there a way to fix this, or is the flashcart faulty?

I was able to everything up to step 7. I'm trying this on a stock 3ds without homebrew, so steps 8 and 9 aren't really relevant.

The sd card passed the h2testw. I not using the sd adapter that came with the flashcart, I have my own.

Formatting with different allocation sizes seems to have an effect (16 kb and 32 kb allocation seems to work better than smaller sizes), but the flashcart still refuses to work.

It's possible for nonhacked 3DS systems to softbrick their DS(i) mode.

Check if yours can play a legit retail DS cart game or DSiWare if purchased from Nintendo eShop.

If you have no real physical DS cart (excluding the R4i Gold Plus) or cannot purchase a DSiWare game, a free to download DSiWare title is Nintendo Fan Network.

If DS(i) mode is bricked, proceed with hacking that 3DS sytstem with the ntrboot method and revisit steps 8–9.

It can play retail ds cartridges fine.

Did you try to clean the ds contacts of the card? But don't use water

Yeah, I cleaned them using rubbing alcohol. Didn't seem to do anything but I'l try again.

Different roms freeze at different times (it might have something to do with rom size). Mario 64 and new super mario bros get a white screen almost immediately, while Kirby Super Star Ultra is sometimes able to play through the intro movie before there are visual artifacts and the game freezes.

I found a video of a guy having the same problem. ()

He tests 3 flashcarts with 3 sd cards. My flashcart has the same problem as flashcart c in the video. The flashcart boots up fine, but it freezes when starting a game.

At this point, I'm assuming that the flashcart has a hardware failure. There doesn't seem to be anything I can do to get this thing to work.

Which flashcart would you guys recommend? I'm only interested in playing ds roms, not homebrew or 3ds titles. I mainly want to use the flashcart on a 3ds, but being able to use it on the original ds would be nice.

You're not alone in receiving a dud R4i Gold 3DS Plus.
Where was yours purchased? Is it possible to return it, get a refund, exchange it for another one, or demand the seller to send you replacement free of charge for your troubles?

I still personally recommend that model if you can find it within you to try getting it again.

If you're able to refund/exchange it, install custom firmware on the 3DS with ntrboot (using that flashcart) or resort to another method at 3ds.hacks.guide. While waiting for the new one to come in, play DS games with TWiLight Menu.

However, it's understandable if you're done with paying US $20 a pop and playing the waiting game after having a bad first impression with the product. If all you want is a DS flashcart that'll play all your DS games but don't feel like spending too much or risk the disappoint getting another dud, check my signature for the shitty R4iSDHC series. It may not have the prettiest menu interface and it has a time bomb to contend with (can be bypassed), but it's one of the cheapest models that'll get the job done playing DS games while still capable for ntrboot hacking purpose.

Thanks for everyone's help.

I can't get a refund or exchange because the site I bought from shut down. I'll keep the cart in case I want to homebrew.
