Depends on what you want. If you want to have the latest firmware you can update since sxos supports 10.0.4 - if you want to stay on an older firmware you dont update.

Only thing I advice before installation is linking a nintendo account, because its not possible anymore after installation (I dont know why, on my switch it just puts out an error message and I have to restart the switch)

So ideally I would say:
1. Update firmware
2. Link account
3. Install Modchip
4. Make NAND Backup
5. Activate emuNAND

Some games require a linked nintendo account. Personally I dont own any that do, but better be safe than sorry.

Also if you ever want to go online with OFW or transfer saves to a unmodded switch, you need a linked account.

before installing modchip, should we update the switch to the latest firmware or just let it be whatever firmware it is on ?
Firmware doesn’t matter as long as the sxos supports it. So anything above firmeware 2.0, it’ll work on.
