'New Pokémon Snap' announced for Nintendo Switch

poke snap.PNG

During today's Pokémon Presents, the Pokémon Company announced the comeback of a beloved title: Pokémon Snap. Aptly titled New Pokémon Snap, Nintendo describes it as a "new adventure" that is "inspired by the classic Nintendo 64 game Pokémon Snap."

While details are scant, Nintendo also shared this title's description:

Travel to unknown islands with beautiful scenery like lush jungles and sandy beaches. The Pokémon pictures you take there will be used to build your very own Pokémon Photodex! This brand-new game brings the gameplay of the 1999 Pokémon Snap game for the Nintendo 64 system to life on the Nintendo Switch system with unknown islands to discover and different Pokémon to see!

Photograph lively wild Pokémon in their natural habitats as you research and explore unknown islands. Journey through a variety of environments such as beaches and jungles to capture previously-unseen Pokémon behaviors. The photos you take can also be used to fill out your very own Pokémon Photodex!

New Pokémon Snap is under development by Bandai Namco for the Nintendo Switch but no release window has been shared.

I did play it on the Nintendo 64. Garbage game. This, coming from a die hard Pokémon fan. Past years all I have been playing is Pokémon lol.

Never understood the hype for Pokémon Snap...
Not sure about anyone else, but for me as a kid Pokemon Snap was the first Pokemon game that really "immersed" you into the world of Pokemon. There weren't really any other Pokemon games out at the time that actually showed off the environments and the interactions that Pokemon go through (in fact I think it was the first Pokemon game that was 3D and on a home console), the main series games were just top down RPGs that was graphically very bland and boring. To be able to go through those environments and see those interactions and cause those interactions and "catch" Pokemon (albeit in a different way) was just a really fun experience as a Pokemon fan.

I suppose if you just don't like Pokemon that much it'd probably be seen as boring or whatever, but otherwise it's an excellent side game for the time

I loved the original as a kid and I wanted a sequel for years. That being said, I'm actually not excited for this at all. Every single Pokémon game I've picked up after Gen 4 just felt so filled with fluff, extra useless features and a general lack of inspiration (B/W/B2/W2 being exceptions). The series just doesn't seem to live up to itself for me anymore.

I only played it a few weeks ago, but I have to say ... why! almost any other n64 title would have been better in my opinion. But who cares, enough people will be happy, including nintendo

there are way way worse pokemon games than snap, snap is a classic and a one of a kind, also snap was amazing for its time, imo snap is the best spin off pokemon game only tying with colosseum/XD. the rest of the spin off games are way worse imo.
what is pokken? and i forgot conquest was a thing
pokken is a fighting 1-1 game for wiiu/switch https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pokkén_Tournament

Also Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon XD gale of darkness were also made by a third party company called Genius Sonority

I kinda agree to a certain extent if they want to make this game great do it but don't charge more than $20 for it.

If they going to charge $60 for taking pictures of pokemon they will literally sell you anything that has a pokemon label on it.

So a sequel more or less?
Bout time though I hope the n64 version gets a rerelease.
Preferably as an unlock sojce vortual console is dead.
Unless an n64 NSO collection happens but I'd like the first game with more enhancments.
Namco might make this feel more arcade like so Im looking forward to it.

someone who says the only thing about snap is taking pictures, just never played snap, you can interact with pokemons throwing items to trigger things, there are alot of puzzles in every level to make certain pokemons appear/evolve or do special moves/interactions with other pokemon species.

people loved snap becuase of that, it was basicaly an exploration game on traks.

Considering the massive nostalgia appear of this game is a shame that you won't be able to catch (on camera) the 151 original Pokemon like many people wanted to do in the original Pokemon Snap.

What were the odds of Nintendo listening to what gamers have been requesting for half a decade?

That being said, I'm hyped for the game.

Dude, people have wanted.a new Pokemon Snap since at least the Gamecube era. Not doing it for the Wii was a shame since with the Wii using SD cards it would have been easy to move the photographs to the PC.

Same for not doing at least a port of the original for the 3DS.

In the trailer they showed tracks made out of light so still not free exploring? Also the graphics. I know it's not a mainline game and thus the budget is lower, but come on... This looks like a indi studio game. Its great that it happens, but thats not enough GameFreak.

But Gamefreak isn't the one making it. Hell, they weren't even the ones who made the original Pokemon Snap.
