New Paper Mario: The Origami King trailer gives a closer look at the game

With just a little over a month to go before the release of a brand new Paper Mario game, Nintendo has decided to give fans a more detailed look at what the game has to offer. This five-minute trailer shows some of the new locations Mario will be exploring, the companions he'll be travelling with, the battle system, and more. Kamek, Bowser, and Bowser Jr. will also be a part of some of the characters you'll meet throughout your journey. Paper Mario: The Origami King will be launching soon, on July 17th.

How is it over analyzing anything with they said u choose items to attack with preceded to show mario jumping? They never once use the words abilities and skills. Only items. it’s clear the translators of the chinese and japan trailers were wrong. It’s sticker star like situation all over again. They even pointed out only some partners will join in some battles. Nintendo aren’t stupid, they held back the full battle system from English speaking regions for a month to get early pre orders. Knowing full well only their hardcore fans from Japan would like it. this was clearly a bait and switch move from nintendo.

Look at the menus they are showing during the battles. They are using abilities in the first battles up until they mention items. Items are in addition to. And there is zero info given as to how much items are able to effect the battles, exactly what all of the items are, how many you can have in your item list at any given time, how easy it is or is not to obtain any given item. Etc. You are over analyzing because they showed the ability menu being used without an item, and there is not enough info out there about items. :)

The new trailer unfortunately shows battles are item based rather than skill, badge and ability based. And heart pieces it seems are hidden throughout the game to increase hp. So battles may been made meaningless since they may not be used to level up.

Why does Nintendo keep doing this crap with everything? Either it be consoles themselves or the games. They always screw-up by making them either gimmicky or overly simplified or removing and replacing features we love with crap! F this crap! i want my money back from my digital pre order!
boi you have skills and abilities
the items are just like classic items, while stuff like the shiny boots and iron boots are reusable weapons you get and have permanently

Okay, so I like all the content they've added to the game, but I don't know about that battle system. I wasn't a fan of sticker star story but loved color splash.

The first three M&L games each have some pretty significant twists compared to one another, I think. Maybe Dream Team did as well, but it was such a profoundly disappointing slog; I don't think they changed enough compared to Bowser's Inside Story.

Is still basically the same combat system.

Yes there are a few changes but anyone who played the GBA Superstar Saga can play any of the other games with no problems since the battle system is quite similar.

Dream Team was disappointing but the giant fights and the Boss Arena was fun.

Honesty this gimmick doesn't even make sense since there is nothing in the Switch that makes turning easier compared to other Nintendo consoles.

Worse, Nintendo killed the M&L by making remakes. Did they forget anyone with a 3DS could play DS games? The first remake only sold well because the 3DS can't play GBA games cardridges.

Okay, so I like all the content they've added to the game, but I don't know about that battle system. I wasn't a fan of sticker star story but loved color splash.

Sticker Star has the worst battle system in any Paper Mario game.

This just looks like more of color splash, and that game wasn't even all that good to begin with.
I'd ramble on more about what I feel its wrong with this game just from this video... but honestly, I don't really feel it, I'm just disappointed.
Good thing Bug Fables exist and I played it, that was a real paper mario-like game, and imo even better than those games.

Obviously TTYD has the same system as the first game..?

I have spent years utterly baffled by why anyone would want to buy a game at launch anymore.
There is nothing wrong with buying a game at launch. Most people who've been anticipating a big release for a while want that game the minute it comes out. The crazy thing is pre-ordering a digital copy of a game! Do they think they are going to run out...of digital copies?

I keep reading it Paper Mario: The Origami Killer, damn you Heavy Rain.

the NA website for paper mario still lacks atm additional information. However the uk page has been fully updated. Well worn boots and hammer are permanent weapons. while additional boots and hammers break after so many usage. Badges have been replaced with accessories. Can equip up to a set of three at once. seems like slots and sets of accessories are predetermined. Leaving u to choose which set of 3 u want to use but not able to customize what accessories are in those slots.

The overall game looks amazing although I don't think the new wheel combat system will be liked by many...
Yeah it seems way to complicated to be anything close to fun... They just should have brought back the original battle system from The Thousand Year Door and people would have been happy

Hey, looks like a proper game. I'm guessing the thinking is every battle should be a puzzle to solve, making each battle different. Who knows how successful it'll be. But even if it's just "okay", I'll be happy it's not sticker star. But here's hoping it comes out swinging and surprises. Needs that weird-fun sensibility, though.

The crazy thing is pre-ordering a digital copy of a game! Do they think they are going to run out...of digital copies?

People will pre-order for a few reasons. Generally they buy it when they have the money, but aren't sure they'll have the money whenever it comes out. They'll also pre-order so it'll pre-download and they can play the instant it's released. Or maybe there's some sort of digital bonus which is neat. Other reason is to show support for series or genres they like, to add to the numbers sold (which they won't get from used games). Sometimes it's one, sometimes it's all four.

I like per-ordering physical when I get cash and there are bonuses for doing so. But only for the big releases or releases I want to show support for a particular franchise so maybe they'll make more.

So even though they are not stickers anymore, they function the same. Disappointing, and I'm saying this as a Paper Mario fan.
