IGN Summer of Gaming 2020 - roundup coverage

logo_ign.png

That's right; it's finally time for 2020's showcase of gaming reveals. Taking the place of E3 this year is IGN and their Summer of Gaming event, featuring many different teasers and trailers, covering all sorts of upcoming titles. To keep things organized, this thread will serve as a roundup of all the smaller reveals for users to discuss. With that out of the way, let's look at all the gaming news that today has brought us. The trailers can be found in the game title at the start of each paragraph.

Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Earthblood is the first game shown, being an adaptation of a tabletop RPG game. This trailer is a cinematic one, giving a glimpse of the world that this action-RPG game will take place in. Planned for release on PS4/PC/XB1.

Metal: Hellsinger was revealed, as an FPS-rhythm mix, where you shoot your guns to the beat of heavy metal music. While this is a gameplay trailer, the footage is from a pre-alpha build of the game. It'll release for PS4/PC/XB1, and next-gen consoles.

The Waylanders got a new trailer, where we get to see that the game is a fantasy RPG with "fast-paced strategic combat". Seafaring appears to be a focus as well. You'll be able to try it out through Steam Early Access on June 16th.

Second Extinction shows 11 minutes of gameplay alongside a developer interview, discussing its inspiration taken from Left 4 Dead and how it focuses on three-player co-op. It appears to be a console exclusive to Xbox, with only a planned release for Xbox One and Xbox Series X.

Voidtrain is a survival shooter where you protect your train that travels through, as expected, a void, taking it across the sky, over water, and all sorts of other trippy environments. Check it out when it launches this fall on Steam.

Arcade 1up is bringing new home arcade systems of Ms. Pac-Man, X-men vs Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom Clash of Super Heroes, and Big Bucket Hunter.

Rustler (Grand Theft Horse), is a top-down indie that takes the concept of gameplay from Grand Theft Auto 2 and puts it in the medieval era, letting you raid towns, steal horses, and hijack caravans.

Demon Turf is being developed by Slime-San's development team, and is a 3D platformer with a very sketchy cel-shaded look to its graphics. It'll be on both the Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Steam, Epic Games Store, and Nintendo Switch.

Borderlands 3 will be getting a new DLC expansion, titled Bounty of Blood. The content will be standalone and can be experienced without having played the other two DLCs, and focuses on the theme of the wild west. You'll be tasked with taking down the Devil Riders gang using new guns, and vehicles while facing off against new enemy types.

The Riftbreaker sees give minutes of exclusive gameplay footage, taking elements from action RPGs, tower defense games, and RTS games in order to create its gameplay, where you prepare your base and fight against hoards of enemies in a top-down style.

Pathfinder: Kingmaker is headed to consoles, as it releases on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on August 18th. The game will be getting anew turn-based mode to help players on console plan out their battles.

Beyond Blue is all about seeing the beauty of the underwater world, letting you explore nature alongside whales and dolphins. Explore the ocean to find numerous different creatures, on June 11th, when the game launches on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

Dual Universe is all about building your own spaceships to take out into battle against other players and squads. It's an online game with PvP MMO elements that is currently playable, but is currently 15% off to celebrate the Summer of Gaming show.

GTFO is already released as of 2019, but will see a new free update that releases tomorrow, adding the brand new "Rundown" event, where teams can sneak into a base and kill short alien creatures.

Chivalry 2 is coming to consoles, including the PS5 and XSX, and will be crossplay with each and every platform that it releases on. The gameplay trailer shows armies facing off, using bows, swords, horses, axes, and all all manners of weapons to attack and take down foes.

Rhythm FPS games seem to be all the rage suddenly, I've already got Bullets Per Minute and Gun Jam on my wishlist, and now there's Metal: Hellsinger. I wonder if all these devs played Pistol Whip and found inspiration in that. Fantastic game.

I’m actually really excited for Werewolf: The Apocalypse. Reviewing Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York got me really interested in that universe and the tabletop games, so definitely gonna be keeping an eye on that one!

Not sure if it's just because I'm slowly turning into an old man, but a lot of games just don't appeal to me lately.
Nah it's not just you, most of the games in this showcase are gonna get 6/10 in reviews at best. Fairly confident that PCGamer's showcase will be far more impressive, given how much hype Persona 4 will generate on its own.

Meh, nothing that particularly catches my fancy. Not sure if it's just because I'm slowly turning into an old man, but a lot of games just don't appeal to me lately. I tend to only play a handful these days.
These are very "trendy" style games for younger people... but there's still piles of good stuff for older gamers on the horizon.

Metal: Hellslinger just looks like a musical DOOM. No thanks.

VoidTrain, Borderlands 3, Riftbreaker, and Beyond Blue...you're not really selling me with those thumbnails, guys; I'm getting tired of women being placed in highlighted positions just to give the impression that "games aren't sexist". We already know that; anyone who does say that unironically is behind the times or just looking to stir up trouble. Plenty of games already have female characters - you don't need to highlight them anymore. Also please stop making games with only female PCs; they aren't fun, and rarely justify the lack of a male PC by taking uniquely-female challenges and interactions into account.

Yeah I like the concept, but TBH I'm not really much of a heavy metal guy (at least outside of instrumental stuff), my line gets drawn at hard rock.

Err...so because we've reached some arbitrary "limit" of women in games, nobody is ever allowed to develop another game with a female main character? That's some goofy logic bruh.

That's not exactly what I wrote; they just don't need to highlight them as much anymore.

I'm not quite sure how you expect games to avoid highlighting their main characters. The only example you gave where that isn't the case is Borderlands 3, and I think they just picked the main quest NPC for the expansion to feature in the thumbnail.

Metal Hellsinger is pretty much on my radar, since I love metal and love me some FPS.
Gonna put my experience with FPS AND my skills as a musician to the test.

Gawd, I hope "big bucket hunter" isn't a type lol xD

Oh wow, lol must be a Copy/Paste title because SO many other websites have it listed as Big Bucket Hunter but clearly show a video for Big Buck Hunter. Oops!

The real reason E3 was canned? Because companies didn’t want to spend millions to show trashy games. They have zero games worth buying for summer/fall 2020 and winter 2020/2021!

Even Nintendo has nothing at all this year. Aside from paper mario
