hi guys, i was using a 3rd party dock that had both handheld and docked mode, but the HDMI output on the dock got messed up and had to return it. instead of trying to get another 3rd party dock, i was wondering if there was any way to do it on the official dock. if possible, i was going to just get a shell replacement instead. i tried taking the HDMI cable off the dock to see if it was possible, but the screen still turns off. on the 3rd party dock, if no hdmi was connected it would just go to handheld charging, and if a HDMI was connected then it would go do docked mode and output to hdmi. i was thinking there could be a toggle or something to switch it. i was thinking maybe reverseNX could do it but it only seems to affect the clock speed by the description...

You would want to stay away from third party dock. Not possible if you connect a Female to Male USB C cable to the charging/Video output port on the dock, it will just be in dock mode.

if u are trying to charge the switch in handheld mode take the charger that plugs into the dock and plug it directly into the switch
no i mean to have it use the dock to charge and be able to use the usb ports like in dock mode but without turning the screen off and output to TV. i know all 3rd party docks have the dual mode, but i was wondering if there is any way to do it on the official dock.

like i said. i know 3rd party docks already do this. i'm just trying to see if the nintendo dock can do it, but i guess not.
It would have to be designed to do that in the first place, which it's not.
I'm not sure I see the point anyway, since the official dock covers up the screen...

you can transplant the official dock it into a smaller dock...
Oh, OK.
Well, adding a switch (:switch:) to physically switch (:switch:) the power pins between being connected to the dock PCB and being connected directly to the Switch, or maybe even using a switch (:switch:) to cut the communication pins between the dock and Switch so the Switch does not see the dock (but can still charge through it) should be possible. Not sure about the latter as that may also prevent fast charging.

do yourself a favor and just use the charging cable. I bought one when my original switch died to check if it could charge. I kept it. now, it's at my computer area, plugged into my surge protector and I use it to charge everything but the nes controllers. I found a charging station that works with the nes controllers, so I don't need the switch at all.

not all 3rd party dock is faulty I have the same 3rd party dock i owned before the news about 3rd party dock and it hasn't been problem and with all possible reviews I say this one safe

and the issue with 3rd party dock you had to return I bet you didn't use the 15V charger that came with the switch because u need this to charge and play to tv

i already understand the whole reason why 3rd party docks brick due to bad power delivery. my 3rd party dock stopped outputting to my TV when switching to dock mode and it came with a charger that had the same power outputs as the official charger. everything was working good but it just stopped working correctly. so i had to return it but they didn't have any replacements available unless i special ordered it.

that's why i was wondering if it was possible with the official dock before i tried to buy another 3rd party dock again...

charging isn't the problem, i'm looking for something portable so i can bring it around cuz i travel alot. so instead of bringing the official dock and a stand (i have a hori playstand already), i can just bring a dock. that's why i bought the 3rd party dock i had but it stopped working correctly and just returned it. that's why i'm askling this question...

maybe try something like this. I have it for my cell phone, and it uses micro usb. there's probably one for usb c. it has 10,000 MaH iirc, which is probably more than the switch battery, so it should charge a couple times. my cell phone can charge at least four times with this. I also remember a larger battery for I think it was the switch where you leave the back plate off, because the battery is that large.

I remembered this thread after seeing post on ReSwitched, so this is what you need to add to system_settings.ini if you want to use dock as charger without switching to docked mode:

INI:
[omm]
console_style = str!handheld

It may not work with old FWs

To bring back original docked mode you need to delete/comment out last line.
