A developer build of the cancelled version of Dead Island 2 has appeared online, alongside footage

2020 could quite possibly be the year of leaks, as yet another early build for a game has appeared online. A few years ago, a release of Dead Island 2 would have been expected, but now, in this new decade, Dead Island's sequel is well on its way to becoming the next Duke Nukem Forever. Announced in 2014, Dead Island 2 was planned to be the follow up to 2011's Dead Island, and was planned for release in 2015. Obviously, the game didn't make its launch window, and eventually was canceled, only for publisher Deep Silver to revive the game, where development was shifted from Yager Development to Sumo Digital, and then from Sumo to Dambuster Studios.

The last time we heard word on Dead Island 2 was back in August 2019, where it was still promised to release, eventually. with retailers even giving it a 2020 launch window for Xbox One, PC and PlayStation 4. While we continue to wait, wait, and wait for Dead Island 2 to finally reach completion, those interested in the series can check out some new-old footage that has leaked from a developer build of the game dated June 2015. This would have been the original gameplay planned for Dead Island 2, back when Yager Development was still helming the project early on, meaning anything seen in this working build has likely been scrapped.

Completely forgot about this game. I kept meaning to pick up the first one in one of the many sales on PC. Maybe I'll go do that. It's not the leak we asked for, but it's a welcome one.

I liked the first one well enough, and still stand by my apparently contentious review of the escape dead island spinoff ( https://gbatemp.net/review/escape-dead-island.238/ ).

The trailer of the guy jogging along in a different location had stuck with me all these years as well and that is impressive for a trailer as very few stick around in my head, even for things I like (though they generally had good trailers for all of them).

Anyway after the devs were pulled despite having some quite promising footage at things (looked like the standard spit and polish job for a sequel, which was fine as that was what the DLC was heading towards) I was curious to see what state the thing was in, and figured I would never know.

Guess I will now know what was going on, or someone else will be able to grab it and see.

I’ve just downloaded it, quite interesting seeing the early build stages, was surprised to be able to use an Xbox pad to play, some maps cause an infinite loading screen so be weary

Might have to figure out if I can do something with it then.

As for xbox pad it was the standard pad for PC gaming around the time, Windows more or less just worked with it and it was always going to be a console game anyway so probably did that from early on.

Wonder if we will see a modded version to smooth over the bugs and issues.

Alright, someone leak the original Conker 64 now, and I mean the rom, we have plenty of footage.
And the original Dinosaur planet. that version has nothing to do with star fox. You play as Krystal, which makes more sense as that's her staff.
And i'm still waiting for that greedy bish to dump the super Mario kart beta that has the different tracks. The eprom is gonna corrupt and then its gonna be useless.

For the people who have got this, does this use a similar file system as the original? As i used to make mods for the original (& riptide) for PC and X360.

On a side note, someone please leak Time Splitters 2 HD while your at it :D

Seems the news spread far and wide (guess leak is more interesting than dev let's play) but did not get much interest in general going by comments on articles, forums and views on videos. Sadly it seems google drive is the new rapidshare, megaupload... and thus does not even give a vague indication of download count (checked a popular torrent site, found it and only 20 seeds and fewer leeches so eh).

I do wonder at times like this if such things are a calculated interest gauge.

Oh well. Would have been nice to play another.

Someone leak the early N64 versions of Duke Nukem Forever. (This game got scrapped and restarted like six times. I'd like to see some of the earlier builds.) I'll be your pal buddy.
