it also fixes the major issue with the beast's Nanoblast....You're ACTUALLY INVULNERABLE when you use it.
that wasnt so much an issue as it was one of the balance things they changed. they had an invulnerability nanoblast (which is what i usually used). its still in PSP2i but i dont know if theres anything special about it now.

but yea its an improvement over the original game in every way.

you can now strafe while casting technics with wands (as well as some ranged weapons you couldnt strafe with before), and all technics are faster and aim better, making mage and spellsword-type builds actually fun to play. new technics have also been added that allow for a lot more strategies (Sazonde OP).

the functionality and effectiveness of charged shots has been greatly improved for all ranged weapons. you can now change the function of your charged shot at the weapon shop. stats for some stuff has been changed or rebalanced too, and overall the combat just feels a lot better.

there are tons of new missions, new items, new costumes, as well as a pseudo-random mission generator that gives you a LOT more to do in the late game. rebirthing lets you improve your stats significantly, and you can also spend the points to get extend codes (which were really hard to get before without multiplayer). the type level limit is now 50, with lots of new abilities, and they reduced the point requirement to level up at higher type levels to cut down on grinding.

as well as lots of other little things, like being able to combine weapons to increase elemental values, and having double storage space.

really, its like PSP2 was just the demo, and Infinity is the full game.

Goddamn, this post made me so hype. I didn't know there were so many improvements over psp2. Fall/end of testing can't get here soon enough!

The JP version of the original game & Infinity have voice acting for almost all the story scenes as well, whereas the EN PSPo2 only has it for the movies AFAIK.
Personally I'm a sucker for voiced dialogues and I think they add a lot to the experience, and the game has drawn some pretty big name actors so that's a plus. :)

agreed, though what precious little VA we got in the english version was pretty good. I can still remember mika in the end cutscene quite clearly.

It just goes to show how much Sega shorted their budget that they could only record a few minutes.

reminds me of Disgaea, where there were just missing lines and sections here and there that werent voiced

Really looking forward to his patch even more since the PC launch of PSO2 has been such a shitshow so far. I have reinstalled the game 4 times now and have given up.

Keep up the good work and squash all those bugs testers!

Just wanted to pop in here as it's been a while since the last time I checked on this thread. Once again, I am very damn pleased and very grateful to all the people involved in making this patch available for us all. Their sheer hard work and dedication has not gone unnoticed as I am certainly looking forward to playing this in English. Looks like things have been going at a good pace too and possibly may even be ready by sometime this year. It always amazes me just how much people still really care about this game in wanting to see a patch release for it. Keep up the amazing work guys, you are all a godsend, no joke! ^_^

Is it still like that? I saw that Arks Layer made some strides in streamlining stuff, but it isn't compatible with my Windows version so I didn't bothered. Dunno why they went that route at all.

I tried playing PSO Portable 1 the other day and yeaaaah... that one hasn't aged well. PSO Portable 2 played much-much better but the voice-acting.. uh. I'm glad you guys are making the Infinite translation which will have Japanese voices :)

Would you consider finalizing the PSO Nova patch, by any chance? It seems like the majority of CG movies are translated but there's a lot of things that aren't, and the game seems fun.

you got that right. its pretty terrible by modern standards. even by its own relative standards, there were a lot of rough spots.

it seems to be a trend with the series though because every game since has mostly had the same issues to varying degrees. with PSP2i they had a chance to look things over and make adjustments, but the other games they didnt do that and it shows. even PSO2 still has rough patches in the same areas.

As someone who got into the series from there I like it, but it's hard to walk back. After it I went to try both original PSU and PSO, and I'll say that's an acquired love.

when is the release??
Please read the very first post. And, this whole thread if you have the time. Long story short, they are now in the end-user quality checking and testing. If all things are keeping on track and nothing goes wrong, they are going to release this by the last quarter of this year. Fingers crossed.
