In 2011, THQ was working on a First Person Shooter set in the Marvel Avengers Universe. The game got canceled in 2012.
Players could take control of Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, and Thor. The Story was reportedly inspired by the Secret Invasion story.
YouTube channel PtoPOnline shared a 10-minute gameplay video running on Xbox 360.

I can see why it was -- that style of control, while interesting, I can not see having any kind of broad appeal. (this would be before call of duty added it and made games around minor jetpack type play, and while Halo Reach in 2010 technically had something it was a minor sub mission really and slow). First person melee is also a hard trick to pull off.

Would not have minded seeing the end result though anyway.

not really. have you never played fallout 3,4 NV or elder scrolls 3,4,5? melee combat is quite prominent in the elder scrolls games unarmed combat too you do have some more advanced moves to go with it granted you don't have throws or tackles(that I'm aware of)

Yeah and it is usually limited to simple strikes on a handful of enemies while normal movement in a generally simple space (if not outright flat or tunnels), and in fallout largely discounted by most builds I ever see anybody play.

This was multiple enemies in quick succession from multiple directions, coupled with the movement in a 3d space. A radically different concept.

that's a good point. I was just pointing out that it can be done albeit in a more simple fashion which would probably not have fit this game.
