New Pokemon Sword and Shield expansion details, DLC launches June 17th

Encounter new Pokemon, explore new areas, and take on a new adventure in the expansion pass for Pokemon Sword and Shield, which got a new trailer explaining a few new details about what players can expect from the Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra. On June 17th, the DLC will be available to those that purchased the expansion pack, bringing with it all sorts of content. Certain older Pokemon are returning, with brand new Galarian formes of Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres. There are also two new Regi-related Pokemon, one a Dragon-type, and the other is Electric. Blastoise and Venusaur will be getting Gigantamx forms to match Charizard. Pokemon Sword and Shield's first part of its expansion pass, the Isle of Armor launches on June 17th, while the second half, the Crown Tundra will go live sometime in fall 2020.

As an extra bonus, Pokemon Home users will be able to claim Hidden Ability Galar starters for a limited time by simply depositing any Pokemon caught in either Sword/Shield to Home.

I remember Black 2/White 2 having this exact feature. I’m only just now playing through Sword for the first time and if that were available, I’d absolutely turn it on.
Unfortunately that feature had the curious effect of not altering the difficulty at all.

I want all 477 missing Pokemon, Return and Hidden Power to be brought back. I don't care about anything else; new moves and Pokemon can go shove it.

Until and unless that happens, the series is dead to me. The Switch killed it.
They made a killswitch.

Admittedly I never played through multiple times to test if it actually raised difficulty. I’ve just found myself thinking “wow this would be a good game to put those difficulty settings on.” It’s a shame cause there is a lot of QOL changes in SwSh that I do really like. The low difficulty is one of the only things keeping it from being a great Pokémon game

If you guys hate low difficulty in games made for children so much, Sword and Shield already have zero experience gain hacks and other difficulty tweaks. There are also hundreds of difficulty hacks and fangames made by people who think every route should be filled with trainers with 6 Pokemon, all with perfect IVs, EVs, and hold items. Pokemon Reborn, if I recall, even has level caps. That's what you want, right? It's right there.

I wish they were adding a "hard" mode for this game. It's literally the one thing that made me quit. You face-roll through the game and it's not fun.

They really need to have a traditional mode and a expert mode that limits item use in battles

It's a entry level RPG that's why it is like that. But you are right there are fan games and etc...

The main point is the real challenge is fighting real people online NPC has so much limitations

We also will always have the older games that, while not brutally punishing, are at least more difficult than SwSh for the most part. But let’s be real, Pokémon has only ever been “challenging” as a child

I always played pokemon games for the adventure I think the hardest one I played was Pokemon Red back in the day in 97. The AI isn't going to think competitively and half of the pokemon the trainer uses are like doubles (why would you have 2 of the same pokemon to battle me with?) Playing a rom hack or online is probably a better experience.Pokemon shouldn't be turnbased anyway it should be action-rpg therefore it would be more thinking and strategy involved vs just clicking on a move. I think that is why pokemon is kinda bad because the battle mechanics is outdated they are still using the same mechanics since 20 years ago. You should want to fight in like a water gym where you can dive underwater and dodge attacks doeesn't make sense to have a TV show and the video game doesn't even try to imitate it.

Assuming you can, or care, or want to hack, it'd also capturing pokemon in a modified version of the game.
While this is nice for people who don't mind. "right there" would be being added by the developer. We hear enough about some games are too hard and they need to be nerfed to the ground, it can't be a one way street here.
Lots of us were kids when Blue/Red came out. it wasn't super hard, but you could definitely lose. Kids today aren't more stupid than we were.

Hopefully they turn off team exp share. Else, I guess we can hex code it out like the base game.
Can you not turn it off in the game currently? I recall in the older games you could turn it off, like in Pokemon X. Thats seems like a bad oversight on the creators part to not have the option to turn it off.

You lost me when you made a new pokemon game without all of the pokemon in it. Now you're selling them in dlc. Not gonna support any pokemon game with this sort of thing going on.

This is a common practice now look at Dragon Fighter Z the roster was bare bones and they gave out 3 Season passes. I remember in Pokemon Crystal I could go to Kanto and battle 8 gyms for free and sw/sh is charging $30 for 2 islands :rofl2:

Come to think of it why didn't they just do a Jhoto Expansion on the pokemon let's go series that would have been worth the $30 than the 2 islands.

IDK Who works for the pokemon gaming dept but they are not doing a very good job at all.

I don't have a problem with a dlc, but they took the main component of pokemon, the pokemon themselves, then took half of em out only to sell them back as dlc. If they had a dlc for new areas and such with new content that'd be different, but they're selling stuff that I feel shouldn't have been separated from base game

The biggest problem with Pokemon it was supposed to be only 150 then it became 251 then 386 and so on and so on even pokemon have a god (Arceus) it just have too many unnecessary addons which is why the problems in SW/SH they don't have the appropriate time frame to add evreything in the game due to budget and animations if they did the game would be above Nintendos limitations. SW/SH was already rushed due to the Gym Leaders and it sped up with level gaps in the last Gym and Pokemon League. The Legendaries they basically gave them both to you it's not like you had to go in a special place to catch them.

I did buy the DLC because I thought it would add more hours to gameplay but if this is just a BS Wild Area then I'm not going to be interested.

They set their own schedule and as a large game company I kind of expect them to have a decent grasp of planning ahead for such things. I could see them charging more for your average pokemon game due to the large quantity of material and work, but I just can't get behind the way they went about it.

can't avoid it their target market is all about millions of casuals now and maximizing the feature of micro-transactions/digital purchases.

Problem with pokemon it's the same formula since 1997 just with more smokes and mirrors. SW/SH had less features than previous pokemon games

The most depressing thing is for most people this would be their first Pokemon game so they will think it was good but if you was playing since Pokemon Red (like me) this game is below average. This game isn't a bad game because I do like some parts of it but as in terms of quality and execution this game is below average.

I think I watched a video where two games at 4K where eating just over 16GB of RAM and it's the one case where the 7900XT and XTX pulled ahead (minus RTX of course)

So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.

but that game barely runs at native 4k
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think it was some newer games and probably poorly optimized PS4 or PS5 ports
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
they definitely will age better but i feel dlss might outweigh that since it looks about as good as native resolution and much less demanding

AMD could introduce something comparable to DLSS but nvidia's got a lot more experience with that

least amd 7xxx has tensor cores which the previous generations didn't so there is the potential for AI upscaling

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
