Ok guys, I'm back after being out of the game for a while. I used to hack Wii, PSP, Direct TV, so I'm not new to the game, just behind on tech and terms(still need to figure out what loadline means).

My plan is to load ALL emulators and ALL roms onto my Wii U. This will include a 64GB SD and 2 2TB externals. With the externals now a days not having power, what is the best most current way to attach these 2 drives to the rear of the device, just don't want them showing up front. Will a powered USB hub with the single USB 3.0 cords from each drive suffice or will I need to use some kind of hub and two y cables for each drive and using all 4 USB ports on the hub at the end of the day?

Also, I read a few tutorials here and there and I'm still working on filling in the gaps in my rom collection, but is there a tutorial that is more all inclusive on what I'm trying to accomplish? I've already got CBHC installed and that's it so far. Should I go and do the vWii portion first before I install Wii U stuff including forwarders? Sorry if I should have posted that question in a separate thread.

The only way to use two hard drives at all is one has to be formatted to Wii U and other has to be formatted to vWii, no way around it.

But unless you buy hard drives that plug into wall you have to use the front and back ports because you need ycables and to use two ports for 1 drive. So one goes in the back with y cable and the other the front with another y cable, again unless they plug into wall. I have no experience with a hub so I can't say if that will work or not.

The Wii U would want two ports for one HDD, as one port isn't enough to supply power to the HDD, as for formatting goes you are only allow to use 2TB from a HDD as far as the Wii U partition goes, for the second HDD you need to use ustealth to hide the HDD and you can use that for the vWii.

That's why Nintendo recommends wall powered HDD

That is true, depends on what OP really want to do, he can either get wall power or use two ports, he can use all four usb ports if he is fine with it. Some people just doesn't like the idea of taking up an extra slot on their power outlet.

I'm good with having one formatted for Wii U and the other formatted for vWii and using U stealth and all that. I prefer only having them connected from the back, so I guess the question really is; would using a powered USB hub connected through the back of the Wii U be sufficient? The two drives would be hooked via Y cables to the 4 ports on the USB. If this provided the sufficient amount of power, would all this work right being hooked via one USB 2.0 from the hub to the Wii U from a data transfer standpoint?

No the Wii U doesn't provide enough amp via one port, you shouldn't connect a usb hub to the back of Wii U to power multiple HDD. You need either to use two ports per drive or external powering it requiring wall outlet.

Does the 2TB limit apply to the vWii drive as well (or is it less)? I have a 750GB drive already formatted for the Wii U (wall powered), but am I able to now format a 2TB drive (wall powered) for vWii as long as I UStealth it? Basically I'm asking if the 750+2TB will work or if 2TB is a limitation across all drives cumulatively. Thanks in advance.

Hope this explain it for the vwii.

you can use more. the max for virtual wii afaik is 2TBs. I'm using 2TBs for the wii u and 1TB for the vwii. I think the limit is due to mbr, not fat32. mbr's max is 2TBs. gpt won't be read.
