HP just announced the next iteration of its headset that lets you step into another reality, the virtual reality. Developed in collaboration with Valve and Microsoft, the HP Reverb G2 is a $599 VR headset planned to release this fall. It features speakers and lenses designed by Valve and offers a resolution of 2160 x 2160 per eye through its LCD panels. It comes with a 6 meter cable, 4 built-in cameras for tracking and a pair of controllers that seem inspired from the Oculus'.

Wow looks great, lucky you to have such a brother! Are there any working PS3 emulators ? Im a big Metal gear can but never played it the 4th. Or does it require a PC like yours ?
I love MGS Series too & yes there is a special version of the ps3 emulator ... thats made for MGS4 ,, 60 fps you will find it on Google or Reddit easily ... but its a large download 20 gigs as for the emulator itself its kinda odd some games run perfectly i.e Skate 3 Skate 1 but not 2 ...but other suck .. fight night champion ... it depends on the game rather than the emu... but i found Silent Hill Downpour ( which i missed back in the ps3 daze ) & thats very smooth ... & every time i open it theres always a update ... but if you missed MGS4 you'll love it ...altho it has too be said its 60% cut scenes $40% gameplay .. but its a great story & has a nice finish to it & is full of random things you can do/ find ... but mostly his stealth suit that blends into anything /walls/floors is cool & laying down doing a slow caterpillar like movement past enemies is solid fun...
you will like it im sure ..MGS3 is my favorite !
obviously i dunno what your Pc/ Lappy is but if your in doubt ... i think the game is $5 at gamestop .. or just hack a ps3....
As for my brother yeah we had a fight .. bad one & i didn't speak nor hear from in years .. been living in USA 10 years now .. this was his way of making peace..& it worked lol
& i do miss him even tho we drive eachother nutzz
i think its the only ps3 emulator there is .. i found it on Reddit as i was looking to play skate 3 again ... & demon souls.. which isn't on PC....

If you want to play any game that is set in large environments, high resolution like on the reverb is a must. I've only used the OG vive and rift S, but they basically cant do racing games.

Any hardware capable of 8ish tflops or better is up to the job, so both PS5 and XBSX should have a pretty easy go of it in the VR space. As far as content goes, the world can never get enough, and that applies to pancake gaming just as well as VR. I've already got 182 VR games on Steam, about half of which I'd say are plenty high quality enough, the rest of which came cheap/free in bundles or promotions.

And video standard? Who honestly gives half a fuck? Most are DisplayPort, some are HDMI. Either way you just plug it in once and forget it, like any other monitor.

I'm saying WMR is the only VR headset I have, I have the Sony Vr setup too, but that's the same thing. For a few seconds it's fine, then your gun is pointing at an off angle, then quite bad, before going back to an off angle. Could be games specific, as it doesn't seem as bad in other games, but I still think it's an issue with tracking, current gen.

The first generation of WMR hardware is notorious for its tracking issues unfortunately, and PSVR uses Wii-era tracking so it's even worse. I'm still using the Vive v1 base stations in my setup, and everything tracks perfectly in an area of about 4m x 2m, including individual finger movements.

WMR using outward looking cameras, mounted on headset (1st generation WMR used very poor cameras, likely low processing power too)

PSVR uses the old Eye camera tech (like a lighthouse), combined with the Move controllers.

Vive uses the best (for tracking, Oculus use this type of tech too), lighthouse, but obvious means you have things setup all over, and cost too.

I own a lighthouse setup and quite frankly I don't use it at all right now, since for whatever reason I seem to get tracking issues (which is very offputting when playing Beat Saber on Expert).
My Oculus Quest on the other hands did well in this department so far. So having a bunch of cameras on your headset (5 in this case, though) is not necessarily a bad thing as long as it works fine.

Unless its wireless just get a quest, once you cut the cable there really is no going back, you can fit the quest and a cheap gaming laptop in your backpack that will play nearly anything anywhere for around $1200 and by the time its obsolete those $3k tethered setups will be too.

I hope consoles die and portables die and computers die. There should only be books.
I presume you're being sarcastic, since you have GBAtemp account.

A non sarcastic reply:

That's not what i meant.
I said i hope VR shit (because i don't like it as main way of gaming) dies eventually, meaning that it never get to a point where classical gaming is (Wiimote, gamepads, mouse/keyboard, TV, Screens that are at least a foot away).

hmm kind of strange to include the Wiimotes in there considering the concept is pretty much VR gaming on a regular TV. I don't understand why you would want it to die tho, I mean if you don't like it don't use it, I very much doubt the resources any company is putting into VR is in anyway hindering the progress of your preferred form of gaming.

Its not strange for me, its very practical and great way to play games the regular way. Kind of like advanced version of JoyPad that combines mouse (pointing) and standard controller in a practical every day package that doesnt deviate much from standard Controllers. For example Metroid Prime trilogy is great example of how well it works for classical point and shoot games where regular controllers fall short using thumb stick.

I don't want VR to die per se, it's a figure of speach.
What i want is not to be so hyped so that every game MUST use VR, which is not a every day way to play for me.
As you said "if you don't like don't use it" that goes without saying (but you said it anyway) i didnt said it because someone is forcing me, im just expressing my feelings and thoughts about the VR in general.

As i said, it's a nice gimmick for gaming, but i personally don't see it as a good way to casually play like picking up a controller, being avare of your surroundings, and turning the TV on..or simply just picking up a portable and turn it on and turn it off when finished.

Also i don't experience games as something i need to emerge my self in to much so i can be part of it or live in virtual world. A simple TV is enough for me. I'm more for classical gaming with some advancements here and there, as long as the core stays the same.

Simply put, don't change whats working already, just make it better or don't touch.

VR is not shit however when it comes to real life aplications such as medicine or archeology, exhibitions, presentations, etc... just not for gaming imo.

As you sarcastically said, you'd rather read a book than playing games...well games are for me like reading a book, i like to use my imagination more that i really want to enter virtual world, or imagine like i'm in....they are more like virtual books to me. It needs to be simple and elegant and to make me use my imagination. As for reality i prefer real reality over VR. I just think there should be a distinction between reality and fiction.

Also my eyes hurt from VR and i feel sick. Not really a pleasant experience imo. :P

Well I at least somewhat agree, not every game needs to be in VR, in fact I don't really enjoy games like Skyrim, Doom, and RE in VR, the technology to make it a comfortable and enjoyable experience just isn't there... yet, however it is very practical for many games. Beat Saber, Super Hot, and Job Simulator, are all great and practical VR gaming experiences.

The tech is new, its very narrow to say that its not good for everyday use, rather its not yet, and the Quest is a huge step in that direction, its actually just as easy to jump in and out of Super Hot in VR using a Quest as it is its non VR PC and console versions.

If its not for you that is totally understandable considering no way of gaming is for everyone, doesn't mean it shouldn't have its own place next, to pc, console, and handheld gaming.

It just isn't for me. I personally don't see it as a future of gaming, just addition to gaming and i hope it wont become mainstream even in future as it gets better.
I applaud any progress and innovation but it's a thing of preference.
I think i'm gonna retire from gaming once the VR replace regular gaming. But than again, i haven't played so many games and i like to replay and beat so many older ones and never so it will be a long time till my "slice of pie" gets "eaten".

I wouldn't say its about the technology how good it will get, but what you as a gamer prefer. I don't prefer, as i said, to be sucked into virtual reality to much.

Are you referring to super hot as a VR game or classical game?

I played super hot, i love it, i played it without VR but i cant say i'm not curious about how it looks in VR tbh, but i don't see my self playing it like that from day to day bases. It's a good little thing to see how it looks but that's about it.

What i DON'T appreciate, and why i'm angry about when it comes to VR is the fact that developers put out craps when it comes to games like Alyx when they say "oh you see, the game is not the same on regular monitor with keyboard and mouse, its impossible to translate the movements and shit, you know guys..." BULLSHIT!

I have nothing against VR personally, except i don't prefer it personally.
I actually like innovations, but i dislike when there are lack of options, especially when i waited for that particular game, for what now, 10 years? (if it's more than it's even worst!) and than in order to shove VR into people throats they release a game that they KNOW people, especially fans have been waiting for YEARS, and they say its VR only, essentially saying "you must buy VR IF you wanna play HL3 (Alyx)" .
I'm like, no man i don't want to, let me play the normal way as an option!
I don't care how much i love HL series i'm not gonna play Alyx.

"doesn't mean it shouldn't have its own place next, to pc, console, and handheld gaming."

Of course it shouldn't, i'm just saying regardless of my preference, that i think it's not a good way of progressing in gaming and that i hope it doesn't go mainstream, and stay, as you said, in it's own place, not replacing mainstream way of gaming (life).

It should be go natural and not showed into mouth. I don't see anyone arguing over controllers & keyboard/mouse. WiiMote was just natural evolution.

perhaps VR will catch up in future, but my prediction is that it wont, it will always be second.

The point where i see it will be acceptable like classical setup is if far, far away imo, the technology for that is not yet existent.

I don't have Oculus or Vive, but had read they were alot better, thanks for the info. So it seems all VR at present is still "beta".

I imagine it will die off in a couple of year (Sony have plans for a second headset though), just like 3D tvs. Maybe it will stay as a niche market, but I can't see a lot of devs continuing to develop for it when it fails to take off. PSVR is the closest VR has come to mainstream, I suppose Oculus second, it seems Google cardboard did a lot more damage than good.

VR won't go mainstream, but it needs to be a lot closer to exist as a realistic business model.

There are a lot of people who don't like to hear this, but it is just factual. There will be some devs who would always develop for this sector, either because they have a personal interest in it, or because they are not successful enough to develop outside of this market. But VR can't survive like this, it's still young (this iteration), so there's hope something will happen to break the chicken / egg cycle. It does look likely though, that this will be passed for now, to another generation once again.

MGS4 was different from the previous games, but not as different as MGSV. I guess MGS4 is where they began to diverge toward 3rd person (over shoulder) shooter, with less pressure on stealth. I still loved MGS4 though, I'm the same in regards MGS3 being my favourite. I'm going to miss having MGS to look forward to when the new consoles drop.....

That assumption is not really what I was trying to bring about. I just wanted to point out that integrated cameras are in fact doing a great job.

However, if you think, VR is not mainstream enough already, that's your cup of tea. In my opinion as an actual user with lots of experience it is already there with the Oculus Quest having been out of stock for months. I hope this is the direction VR will take in the long run, because after experiencing VR untethered I don't really want to go back to cables. Even though I hate Facebook as much as the next guy, I'm definitely interested in what the Quest 2 will bring about. And yes, that thing is in development already.

I'm glad you're happy with your purchase, it would appear I have taken your comment out of context (sorry). I have PSVR too and that also has big issues with tracking. I still believe lighthouse tech is best, I'm disappointed to hear about your problems though.

Outward looking cameras a just an attempt to bring cost, as well as equipment / space required down, to draw in more users. It is essentially a very expensive, but also much better Google Cardboard. It's fine for movies, seated or games which don't require out of site movements.

For most use cases, this will be fine, but if AAA games are developed, they will require the ability of out of sight tracking, those which don;t will be forced to make severe sacrifices. I know initially it sounds dumb, you think "why would I be using or doing something I'm not looking at?", but this is VR, not standard gaming. It breaks immersion, but more importantly it restricts features and controls.

Liking or disliking VR (I would love it to be great) is not the same thing as VR being mainstream. Granted it's closer than previous iterations, doesn't escape the fact it's still a long way away (it isn't even close).

I'd love it to be, but there are several obstacles to overcome and it doesn't look likely they will be overcame anytime soon. 3D tvs died off after another attempt at establishing themselves, I can see developers giving up on VR too. The market needs to be a lot bigger, these are just simple, basic facts.

I think despite that, (if it does stagnate) VR will continue as a niche market, it's big enough now that Indie devs can cater to it, a lot will as they can't penetrate other markets, a niche market like this give them a much better chance of making some cash.
