Please help:
I have extracted all of my wii games from my wbfs partition onto a new drive (fat32) in a root folder of wbfs, then subfolders with the disk name followed by the game code in square brackets. The games are shown in usbloader gx, but launching kicks me back to the home screen. I modded my wii a looooooooong time ago and, honestly , cant remember much now. i wantedc to play some of my old gamecube games so I installed the latest usbloader_gx and nintendont. I dannot get my original partition to load up now either. Here is the syscheck output:

Hello,

Update your HBC, it does not have it with Hackmii install and use Modmii from XFlak to update everything with your syscheck report ==>https://gbatemp.net/threads/modmii-for-windows-official-support-topic.207126/

What is your USB support (usb key or external hard drive) ??

RECOMMEND ++> fat 32 external hard drive.

Thanks for the help. I am using a USB HDD formatted to FAT32. Only issue I have at the moment is that I only have Linux, not Windows. Is there another method. If not I will try in a windows VM. Also, how do I update everything? I can't remember, as it has been almost a decade since I did the original hack.

Hello

In what format is your external hard drive ??
Recommend ==> fat 32
do you use "" wii backup manager "" to manage your games ??

Copying and pasting your games directly to the external hard drive may not work (avoid)

I believe that the wii does not exceed more than 2TO for the external hard drive (I may be wrong). (See with other members)

You can partition your external hard drive into two separate partitions (2TO + 2TO).

I believe he followed my link below at the bottom of my signature to make the entire 4TB drive usable.

@The_Wacho - As suggested by jeannotte the drive needs to be FAT32 with 32k clusters and I use FAT32GUI Formatter to do this (see Step 4)

There are a couple important steps that should not be over looked:

-Step 1: See the last notation about there being unused space or an ASTRIX on the drive. This is sometimes in the front position and even though it is unused/unallocated it can cause an issue with intermittent loading. Make sure there is nothing else at all showing on the drive, just the one partition. If there is merge everything so there is only ONE partition and nothing else.

-Step 2: Make sure the drive is converted from GPT to MBR, if not you'll have issues.

-Step 3: While there is some debate whether this is needed or not, it doesn't hurt anything, so if you're having problem with the drive make sure to set it to PRIMARY & ACTIVE .

-Another Item: Are you using a single cable to power the drive or a Y-Cable? It's possible you Wii's USB ports are weak and a Y-Cable could fix the issue.

Hi, I just got a 4TB WD My Passport and did all of the steps that ca032769 mentions but after trying a couple of Wii games the console just freezes, black screen and unresponsive, have to hold the power button to shut it off. It usually happens when I try to load a game for the first time but sometimes it does it with games I've already loaded and played without problems. It doesn't happen with GC games tho.

Hi, see my comments above to you to see if any of these things were missed in the steps.

I made a couple edits to it so make sure to re-read through everything to make sure you've seen them.

Please let us know if any of these fix your issue.

Okay,

I have updated the requires parts using modmii and that has worked. I can play the games from my old wbfs partition no problem (I had the wrong partition selected in usbloader, :P)

Gamecube games still work from the fat32 HDD, but the wii games still kick me back to the HBC. I used wiimms command line tools (specifically wwt) to extract the games form the original partition. Should I use that to transfer the game to the HDD? I just dragged and dropped the files myself.

Thanks

I FIXED IT (I think)

I removed the .wffs files from their folders so that they are just listed in the wbfs folder. This works! I need to check that my split files work, but so far it looks good :)

Man, that has taken me all day!

Sooooo close!!!

So, all games load as long as they were not split due to being >4Gb in size due to FAT32 limitations. These games will not load. The split files give me the main one xxxxxxxxxxxxx [aaaaaa].wbfs and a second file: xxxxxxxxxxxxx [aaaaaa].wbf1

Does the second file need to be renamed in order for USBloader-GX to read it?

EDIT:
Just checked with Dolphin, and the games load no problem. Must be my wii mod, but cannot figure it out.

I think you use the WiiBackup Manager for the Game Transfer to your USB HDD.
Did you checked in the Options this Setting please ?

Also please be sure you only remove the Update Partition:

If you use the Install Option from the USBLoader GX can you check this Settings too please ?
Settings/Global Settings -> Hard Drive Settings - Game Split Size -> Split each 4GB
Settings/Global Settings -> Hard Drive Settings - Remove Update

Hi, thanks for replying.

Important info:
1) I cannot use wiibackup manager as I do not use Windows. Also, the download site has no download link that works.
2) I used wwt to split the files, not to create them. They were already on my wbfs partition and working
3) The files that are not split work perfectly
4) The split files are <4Gb in size and work fine on Dolphin on my PC from the same FAT32 drive

Any other ideas that may work?

Linux or Mac ? :)

You can try Wii Backup Fusoin, available for both Versions:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/wiibafu/files/Wii Backup Fusion 1.1/

For OS X only:
https://desairem.com/wordpress/witgui/

And you can try WINE for Linux to use the WiiBackup Manager.

Thank you.:)

Hi,

i use Linux and WiiBackup Fusion can no longer be installed as the dependencies are missing in the latest Ubuntu release. I have managed to get Backup manager working in wine though, so will experiment.

This doesn't explain why the files work no problem with dolphin, but will not work with USBloader GX though.

EDIT:
Cannot access the partition with this, but it will let me modify my already transferred files.

Thank you.:)

Hi,

i use Linux and WiiBackup Fusion can no longer be installed as the dependencies are missing in the latest Ubuntu release. I have managed to get Backup manager working in wine though, so will experiment.

This doesn't explain why the files work no problem with dolphin, but will not work with USBloader GX though

Emulators are "more generous" than real Hardware,so unfortunately it is not a real Comparison or Confirmation.
If Roms/ISOs work with the Emulator it not automatically means it has to work on the real Hardware too.:)

Please be sure your ISO´s are good. You can check it with Checksum Tools or Oline Tools like for Example this

http://esrg.sourceforge.net/utils_win_up/md5sum/
or
http://onlinemd5.com/

and compare it please for Example with the Checksums from this Site:
https://www.gametdb.com/Wii/Search
To get sure, your "Source Material" is ok.

Next Thing is to remove the Update Partition, this prevents in many Cases a sucessful Game Boot.

For the USBLoader GX:
If you use the Version 3.0 r1272:
Please check in the Settings/Global Settings - Loader Settings:
- Loaders IOS 58 (or you can try 249)
- Games IOS 249

If this brings no Improvement for you, please try an other Revision from the USBLoader GX - r1268 or 1272 are good.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/usbloadergx/files/Releases/New revisions (3.0+)/

Good Luck.
Thank you.:)

Hello

In what format is your external hard drive ??
Recommend ==> fat 32
do you use "" wii backup manager "" to manage your games ??

Copying and pasting your games directly to the external hard drive may not work (avoid)

I believe that the wii does not exceed more than 2TO for the external hard drive (I may be wrong). (See with other members)

You can partition your external hard drive into two separate partitions (2TO + 2TO).

Hi, thanks for replying, I partitioned my 4tb drive into 2 smaller partitions, the first one is 1.68tb, FAT32; the second one is 2.43tb NTFS, both are MBR and primary. I always use WiiBackupManager for transfering my Wii games. So far I have been able to play the games that I've transfered after the first black screen/freeze, only 1 game always gives me the "Exception (DSI) occured!" error.

Hi, thanks for replying, I just used GUI Formatter just to be sure the FAT32 partition had 32k clusters and tried a few games that I hadn't before and they all loaded perfectly on the first try, however, I tried loading one of the games that I had already loaded and got a black screen freeze again.
I don't have a Y-cable but using one would complicate things since one of the main reasons I got the Wii was to play the RockBand games and I need the extra USB port for the instruments.

Glad to hear it's mostly working. There are a handful of games that require a setting change in the cIOS, usually from base [56] to base [57], or they won't load, such as some Call of Duty games. Other require yet a different base, so if you're on base [56] you should get most games to work.

If you get a few that don't you can refer to these two lists to see if a settings change is needed for it:

I didn't install any Wii games yet but I can definitely say that GameCube games work almost perfectly on my Wii at least for the most part. I have only 3 issues with over at least 20 GameCube games. The first one is just a minor issue that isn't really important, it is that the intro video from Mario Kart Double Dash is stuttering pretty hard, but the game itself works fine, so I don't really care that one. My second issue is that in Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes the audio in cutscenes is almost one sentence off sync wich is more of a problem for me because it takes out much from the experience so I'd like to get this fixed somehow if somebody wants to help me. The third issue is the worst out of all three: Metroid Prime only gives me a black screen for some reason. This is weird because I can remember playing it before on USB Loader GX without any issues. It first happened when I moved a couple of my games on my SD-Card but it was the only one that gave me issues so I thought that it maybe just loads from USB so I moved it back to my Flash Drive but that didn't do anything about the issue. I tried playing my dump of the game via Dolphin on my PC and it worked fine so I don't think, that the dump is bad or something. As I said the weirdest thing is that I definitely have played it on USB Loader GX before and I also still got the save file on my GC Memory Card. I didn't change any loader settings and I think there weren't any updates so I really need help with this one. I hope someone can help me solve at least the latter two of my problem because the first one really doesn't matter to me very much

So I did some more testing and the black screen freeze is almost random now, old games could load just fine or crash the console, same with new games, and its never the same games, sometimes Rock Band 3 would load fine on the first try and sometimes it would crash while new games would sometimes crash on first load or boot on the first try. It seems to happen more often if the game is new but now I'm not sure.

Odd that it's so random. It would make sense if you were using a Flash Drive because they tend to be unreliable, but with an external hard drive it usually either works or doesn't.

A) First thing I would try is getting a Y-Cable, only a few dollars, and try testing the drive playing games that don't need your accessories attached to the other USB port. It's a quick easy low cost way to see if your issue gets solved. Because of the random nature I'm thinking your drive is dropping out from not having enough power.

B) Have you looked at the drive with EaseUS Partition Master to make sure there is nothing else unallocated that needs to be merged?

C) Which exact Western Digital Passport do you have? I've never had to play around with drives going to sleep and then causing an error, but maybe you can look into disabling it from going to sleep. USB Loader GX might also have in it's programming a command that keeps the drive awake. Drives falling asleep use to be an issue which were eventually addressed by at least some of the loaders but I'm not sure about this one.

D) To try and rule out how your Wii is modded, cIOS are setup and the way the drive is partitioned, have you tried using any of the other loaders like WiiiFlow Lite or CFG USB Loader (which might be hard to find these days) to see if you still have the same issues?

E) I've never used a drive with more then one partition so I can't account if that might your issue by having the two partitions on it. You might consider making the entire drive a single FAT32 32k partition.

Actually WiiFlow Lite is the one that I use the most because USB Loader GX does not detect my rock band drums. I've been trying games without anything connected other than the drive first and then connect the rest of the instruments, never had a problem once the game loads. Last couple of days I tried loading at least 20 new games and only 1 gave me a black screen freeze, usually I'd try 3/4 and see what happens then try again later.

USB Loader GX does not load ANY game, ever, since I've been using the HDD, with flashdrive and SD cards both loaders worked without any issues, now only WiiFlow loads them.

The HDD doesn't shut off unless the console is off, I can tell because it vibrates a little and you can hear it shutting down.

Having the drive as a single partition is kind of a last resort, I'd rather not use the drive like that because NTFS is better for general storage and I need to free some space on my pc. I'd rather get a 2TB external hdd dedicated for the Wii and keep the 4tb for all general storage.

EDIT:
If I see a Y-cable I'll try to get one but its kind of hard these days.

Ease US and Minitool Wizard both show only 2 partitions and I was careful to not let anything unallocated.
The drive is a WD My Passport 25E2 according to Quick Formatter.
